31 years of trying to look for this song which I heard once on the radio but never again, most unfortunately... Found again. This song is so hauntingly beautiful, it´s magic!
It look me almost as long to find Sabiá by Antônio Carlos Jobim, which I'd heard a couple of times in the mid-90s. It has a similar melancholy to it, probably from the fado influence on the genre.
They were very well known back in the time in the UK. Think Martha's harbour was number one for several weeks if I remember correctly. Most ppl today listen to stuff written by computers. This song would have far to unusual chord progressions to sell today ..saldy
It was in the late 80's, probably 88 or 89, we were Penpals, we exchanged some letters, you lived somewhere in Lisbon, I don't remember where, Luis Miguel was your name, we exchanged a tape with songs we liked, and in which you sent, December was the opening track. I never forgot this beautiful song, and even today when I listen to it I remember you! Hugs Miguel. (If you ever read this say hello back)
Julianne Regan and Tim Bricheno have recently written and recorded a couple of new songs and they are now on CZcams. It may not be All About Eve, but it is really good to see them recording new music again.
There's a victorian tin, I keep my memories in, I found it up in the attic. After looking inside, I find the things that I'm hiding... The leaves saved from a mistletoe kiss, Only nostalgia has me feeling like this... Like I miss you, It must be the time of year. Remember december, It's like a wintergreen beside a diamond stream, Remember december, A fall of snow and the afterglow. It could be taking our breath away But the years stand in the way, Remember december, How does it make you feel inside ? Beneath a valentine, I see a locket is shining I think it must be the wine, Makes me feel it's all real. Where nothing seems to rhyme To breathe life into the dust of a keepsake I might as well try to fix a chain on a snowflake Or a heartache, It must be the time of year. Remember... Should I feel this alone, should I pick up the phone Should I call you up and wish you 'happy christmas' ? I feel so alone, should I pick up the phone Take my heart in my hand And ask if you remember...
The first time i came across AAE was the first time they went on tour with The Mission. At Rock City, this women came on stage in a white lace dress, long curly hair and a voice of an angel..and that was it..All over the country we traveled seeing them..Happy Days
Being from the U.S., I never heard any of their songs on the radio. I found out about them through the Gothic scene. Their first two albums are outstanding.
I bought this tape for 10 cents at a Camelot Music sale at the mall on the recommendation of a rando in the store because I was a goth kid back in 1992. He was right that this would be my favorite band of all time!
This particular track meant a lot to me and I always associate it with a particular time of my life, poignant. Julianne was on top form.brilliant performance.. I just wish they would reunite.
It was of its time. Julianne is now 60 and said in a recent interview on a podcast that she will never play live again. We can just be thankful that we were around when it happened and the fact that it always was precious to us then and it remains timeless and precious now.
When I was much younger she used to sing me to sleep. Still one of the few singers who's songs can make me cry but in a good way. I was lucky enough to see them live too.
my all time fav band, i can listen to her voice forever and such a unique sound, love them and takes me back to when i was introduced to the first album by a friend
They made some dreadful single choices. 'What Kind Of Fool' is icky and the title dangerously apt-when you finish...'releases a song like this'. And that 'Every Angel' aberration is a dreadful substandard Bangles demo. By the same token, they had much better choices that they left on albums. Many artists make these mistakes in the 80s.
Marc, Julianne had dated Simon Hinkler sometime before, but was later Tim's girlfriend. The disintegration of their relationship, after the first album and during the recording of Scarlet presaged Tim's departure.
I know Julianne doesnt have good memories of making this album (the oft heard quote is that she'd never cried so much as she did during the making of this record), but..... my god, what a fucking magnificent collection of songs as a musical legacy and even though this is a fairly simple Andy Cousin chord sequence, this song is an absolute musical highpoint.... and Tim will never play a finer more emotive guitar solo for as long as he'll live. Absolutely bloody brilliant. Scarlet is, to my mind, the most powerful and timeless record they ever made. Saw them at the Albert Hall in 90 on the first of three nights. Brilliant production across the whole album by Paul Samwell Smith. The whole album is flawless.,
Great track beautiful song great music and heavenly voice of julianne regan why werent this band huge there cool haunting alternative sound was amazing
This song brings so much nostalgia for my teenage years the most beautiful period with this song playing in our favourite bar/cafe when I used to go out with my friends .
Never heard of the band, never heard this track. I live on the street right now, and my lady and I meet at this same coffee place everyday when she's done her shift. They are playing the same 20 Christmas songs for the last month....with this one included. I must have heard it 20 times before I looked it up - and i am very glad I did ;)
When I first heard this song and explored the rest of their songs that I could find; I was impressed. You can tell they were a fusion of the 1980’s rock and the 1990’s new wave. At least that’s how I interpreted it.
i remember listenin to this in high school and club days.....and still just as Incredible....Timeless....eautiful..achingly beautful..... pls god Sumne pls put up more AL ABOUT EVE!!!!
This is my favourite guitar solo of all times. Some people might find that strange but it is true. I still listen to the song often, just like the first two albums. After Tim's departure AAE lost all meaning to me.
I like rock and metal. So I have heard many solos. And damn, you are right, this is one of the most beautiful ones ever. That raspy sound, the emotion, the story. It could have gone on forever without me tiring of it.
I mostly agree. Its one of my favourite solos by any guitar player and I was gutted when Tim left, but none of us outside the bubble would have understood the dynamic between him and Julianne at the time... and while TBJ was a strong album in its own right, the nail in the coffin was leaving Phonogram and recording Ultraviolet. I saw them at the Marquee on Charing Cross Road on that album tour and it was just too much of a change and it didnt carry enough of the fanbase with it. At that point, it lost the majority of its meaning to me. Even now, the Ultraviolet album tracks are too much of a departure, even seen through the lens of history.
I agree, they're should have been huge. The musicianship, and that voice is incredible. How the music industry didn't wake up in time I will never know.
and then came Faith and the Muse (Monica Richards), Switchblade Symphony (Tina Root), and Claire Voyant (can't think of the singer's name at this time). All great singers without much recognition from the radio world. I really like Stoa, too.
So lucky. I have lots of old footage from those days. For me it was all about Julianne and (a little later on) Siouxsie. The perfect balance. Thanks for the reply.
They appeared after their 1st album was released at Fairport Convention's Cropredy Festival on a bright summer's day. Julianne's voice, their songs and great guitarist got me instantly hooked and I still am! Julianne came back in the evening to sing with Fairport on some of Sandy Denny's songs and whilst her voice was nothing like the late great Sandy's it is equally enchanting and she did a superb job

every song of AAE is amazing. make sure you listen to all of them :-)
PS: especially: "Drowning" and "Are You Lonely"
From the album Scarlet and other stories if you don't know,a fantastic album.
This Heavy Metal Kid in the 80s had this cassette in his back pocket for melancholy moments :)
Man I love this band, wish more people knew about them
Me too. This is my absolutely favourite song of theirs... Absolutely gorgeous voice...
I had their first album in the 80s, love it.
Her voice is absolutely otherworldly...
They were very well known back in the time in the UK. Think Martha's harbour was number one for several weeks if I remember correctly.

Lucky enough to see them live, quite brilliant
Very underrated song

Welp, 31 years ago now
.....and I've been following AAE for eons before they hit radio & TV.....ever since a beautiful lady I met back then introduced
this outfit to me !!!
So sad that beautiful songs like this fade in time.
@@popindosin228 not if you keep playing them. I have several of her albums on Vinal and CD .

Unfortunately there are a lot of amazing music out there that hardly get to the US, but thank God for CZcams xD
The US dont appreciate deep quality stuff....just the latest craze🙄🤦♂️
Ron Blade saw them live in the uk long time ago, happy memories
@@curiositypiqued6573 agreed. MANY of the bands i listen to don't even make it over here. But I get to introduce friends to great music!
@Courtney Grier usa is overrated...its BS with caps hoe everyone treats it as the fkn pinnacle lol

This voice is out of this world....
So quintessentially English,so ethereal
So beautiful.......
What a super band they were - ' December' is WONDERFUL and Bricheno's guitar work is inspirational! Rick jethrotullfloydfree
seen her in coventry back in the day one of the best female vocals ive eva heard
December and its B side Drowning are still two of my favorite AAE tracks !
"Should be taking our breath away - but the years stand in the way"
Goosebumps whenever I hear that line...
my all time fav band, i can listen to her voice forever and such a unique sound, love them and takes me back to when i was introduced to the first album by a friend
I got here because of The Eden House and I am so happy I did! I loved it!
She had an amazing voice, and the material was up to it. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give All About Eve 12 out of 10.
They made some dreadful single choices. 'What Kind Of Fool' is icky and the title dangerously apt-when you finish...'releases a song like this'. Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!!
"I KEEP MY MEMORIES IN"
Just one of many ways by which to be CIVIL in society..."like a winter dream..."
wow she is stunning
Brilliant band and Julianne Regan had one of the best vocals ever. Saw them at Brixton Academy in the 90's...quality. Cheers for posting.
+Colin Spiller She still does. Check her work with The Eden House
She and Julianna Hatfield were tops back then :)
Very jealous
Saw them on this tour, and they were just perfect, and THAT voice live..... wow.
Los videos de All About Eve son bellísimos , elegantes , verdadero arte ❤
Saw these back in the day in Birmingham ❤️
Still one of my all time favourite music tracks, just beautiful.
Can tell she's Irish.... beautiful woman and great singer
Shes not irish she was born in coventry.
One of my very favourite song EVER!!!! What happened to ALL ABOUT EVE!!! I miss songs like this one...
Yeah, this is a good one!
The entire album is GREAT!!!!
stargate669 Sorry, but if I really remember Julianne (and not Juliet ;) ) Reagan was Simon Hinkler's ( The Mission guitarist) girlfriend....;)
bit like abba then with relationships
Marc, Julianne had dated Simon Hinkler sometime before, but was later Tim's girlfriend. The disintegration of their relationship, after the first album and during the recording of Scarlet presaged Tim's departure.
Brings back memories
Linda canção,momento gás total em pleno 2024!

Maybe just my opinion but after Tim Bricheno left, the band lost its soul and heart.
Just listen to their third and fourth album. A complete disaster.

Such an awesome song and band. To be honest when I heard it on the Radio today..I thought it was WithinTemptation.
It does remind me of older WT. Just discovered this band here and am shocked they're not more popular!
