STAY AWAY from 1911 style designed pistols. Many are accurate, but are not reliable enough for self-defense because of the tight tolerances it is sensitive to dirt, sand, etc.
**** NOTE: The problem with ALL pistols that have external hammers is a small rock or sand and buildup of lint clothing fibers that can get in between the hammer & firing pin. Sad reality.
With the GLOCK factory original high capacity magazines you need to replace the magazine springs with the WOLFF magazine springs. ⚠️There is a very important reason for this.

Why the dude was reluctant to put an AR on that list is really not as big a concern as most people think. Technically, the AK withstands torture tests better than the AR, but in 8 years in the Army (more than two of those in Iraq), I saw more AKs malfunction than ARs.

I have a permit to carry, yet almost every tactical rifle is banned, with the exception of a few HBARs! I own a S&W Shield handgun, yet many others are banned! I pray the Supreme Court's ruling on "Assault Weapons Ban" will help, yet they also said MD is allowed to ban some firearms. Most of my life, I've chosen guns for hunting around the world, so I wasn't aware that my home State was so against honest citizens protecting their families. Please keep up your amazing honest reviews!

OP I have something to contribute about the Ruger revolvers - I own a GP101 in .357 a gun very similar to the GP100. And I'm here to tell you, revolvers are not jam-proof! Because I've experienced jams while at the range. Here's what happened, after firing about 30 to 35 shots (not rapid fire nor did I reload the cylinder with any haste) - my GP101 jammed tight! I could not even open the gun and pulling the trigger was impossible since the cylinder wouldn't revolve. Obviously it was heat related - the gun actually was rather hot. But I knew I'd done nothing to it out of the ordinary, I'd simply fired rounds downrange then reloaded at a normal, unhurried pace. I didn't think this was even possible - and I'm not sure I'd believe it either if it hadn't happened to me. But I swear, the gun was jammed tight, all from the heat of firing the gun non-stop, after less than a box of ammo.
And after cooling off for half an hour, the gun was back to "normal" again. A strange experience but it taught me something I didn't know before about revolvers. Namely this, REVOLVERS ARE NOT "JAM-PROOF"!

Any gun guy needs at least 1 Revolver in his collection. Mine happens to be the first hand gun I ever bought in 1989. It happens to be his #10. Ruger GP141 in .357Mag. Back then they were only 6 shooters not 7 and mine is blued. I wish I has spent the $30 more back then and got the stainless. As much as I love revolvers, it's the only I have. Ammo is harder to find, expensive and in todays world, and revolvers are high dollar in the $700 range. Lastly with only 6 rounds, you'd be outgunned in a firefight since everyone else will have 13-20 rounds on board and a couple more full mags in their back pocket. So I do have several reliable striker fired Tupperware guns. even some cheaper Tupperware guns that are very reliable, but I still EDC my Glock 23 Gen 3 that I've carried since 2002. That's about to change though since getting older and vision is slipping I'm going to go with something that has a red dot mounted as well as an Olight tac light / laser combo in the lower pic rail and be prepared for day or night self defense.

One anecdote. Been running Mossberg 590A1 weekly (yes, weekly) since 2019. Exclusively slugs and 00-buck. Until recently started to get extraction issues - the empty shotshell stuck in the chamber and not pulled out by two extractors!

GP 100, heard it was a really good gun built like a tank. I bought one new and had nothing but problems with it from the start... like the action totally locking up about ever other reload and almost not being able to free it up. I sent it to the factory for repair and when it was returned they said they replaced a few parts and did a tuneup on it, but it still had the exact same problems. It is gone now. I bought a S&W 686 plus to replace it and it is smooth as glass with zero issues ever. I got one in 6in and another one is 3in. They cost more but worth every penny. LOVE them.

I think it amounts to the user, as you have said, as I am clumsy and have bigger hands. There are just more small moving parts with the AR platform.

I would guess that the reason for the P-07's relative lack of popularity is because it is DA/SA. Today's fashionable belief that the heavy first pull of DA/SA is an admission of weakness ("I don't need no heavy first pull- my brain is my safety!)

I think "hammer fired" and "polymer" combined is a turn-off, instinctively, for many. CZs, overall, are not super-common anyway -- unless you are talking to bolt rifle shooters. It may have to do with historical memory of Czechoslovakia, early automobiles from E Europe, etc. leaving few people curious about Czech firearms.

Agreed. The entire market is catering to people's wishes for striker fired polymer guns, which sucks for the rest of us, who are looking for compact DA/SA options. The discontinuation of the Rami really sucks. I hope CZ re considers and comes out with another micro compact DA/SA option.

Your #10 is my #1. Absolutely love my GP100. Love practicing with 38 spl, introducing people to revolvers is great with that gun because it has great ergonomics and due to the weight it really soaks up recoil. I handload super soft 38 spl for that occasion. My #1 semi pistol would be the Walther pdp. I have a 5" model and again, in my experience, fantastic pistol. Honestly, I have three Walthers and wouldn't hesitate to grab any of them. For me the ergonomics are spot on and they are the ultimate point/shoot pistols for me. Agree on the AR for the reasons you mention plus, for a lot of folks out there, it's a matter of muscle memory. Everything about that rifle/carbine is second nature.
