    Fun Fact: My Dad had THAT EXACT SAME WALLPAPER back in the early 1990’s when I was a boy in our home. I’ll never forget that wallpaper, I stared at it from time to time just admiring the artwork.

    I really like this rod. I bought the 9 foot to be my “jack of all trades setups.”
    I can muskie fish with it, fish Northern Pike, cast far from shore, haul big bass out of thick weeds, I can go river fishing with it, and it is not too long when collapsed (56 inches total length collapsed) so I can put it in the vehicle.
    I like that it is $29.99 ($42 total after shipping and handling). I like that they have a few surf length options 9 foot and above. I like that it is fiberglass because fiberglass is durable and flexible and doesn’t snap at the tip from hard casts like graphite rods do. I like that it has aluminum oxide guides ALL THE WAY TO THE TIP to run braid on WITHOUT getting line grooves at the tip! And I like that it is well balanced.
    My Berkley BIG GAME rods I have been using for over 20 years; I have one that has lasted me over 12 years and still going. There were just some things about the Berkley BIG GAME SPINNING ROD that I didn’t like: The tip is not aluminum oxide so you get very minor wavy, smooth line grooves over time (the most durable stainless steel tip I must say). I wish they made them in longer lengths (9 feet and above). And I wish they were more well balanced.
    The Berkley BIG GAME has always been my #1 choice in fishing rod for its affordability, VALUE, trustworthiness, dependability, reliability, durability and more. It is my rod that I always fall back on when others fail or don’t fully meet my expectations. The Berkley BIG GAME rod has been my rock and my solid reliable foundation… FOR DECADES!
    That’s why I bought the Daiwa FT Surf Rod. Aluminum oxide guides ALL THE WAY TO THE TIP. Long rod length choices, well balanced and affordable pricing.
    I purchased mine and received it September 10th, 2023 and as of now it is October 23rd, 2023 and I have a tiny crack in the lacquer at the bottom ferrel. And I AM VERY CAUTIOUS AND VERY CAREFUL WITH MY GEAR; I CLEAN IT AND WASH IT ALMOST AFTER EVERY FISHING TRIP WITH MY GEAR! DOES NOT MATTER THE PRICE. IF I LIKE IT I TAKE CARE OF IT. I also went fishing with my dad and I had it stored in the back by the minnow bucket (plastic one with the metal handle) and I think that is where I GOT SOME KNICKS AND MINOR ROD CHIPS FROM!
    I’m like… dude it barely rubbed against the minnow bucket! I DO CAST HARD because I don’t have a boat I fish from shore. -BUT! IT IS NO EXCUSE. MY BERKLEY BIG GAME ROD IS LESS MONEY, HAS LASTED ME OVER 12 YEARS AND STILL GOING AND DOES NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE DEFICIENCIES like the Daiwa FT Surf Rod has had WITH JUST A LITTLE OVER A MONTHS USE!
    I do like the Daiwa FT Surf Rod. But if Berkley can make a good BIG GAME fishing rod. Daiwa can too… or they SHOULD be able to.
    The Daiwa FT Surf Rod is still a good purchase though. I fish almost everyday so my gear GETS USED ALOT! If you fish almost everyday you may encounter these issues mostly in the finish of the Daiwa FT Surf Rod. The Daiwa FT Surf Rod is still a good rod to buy if you are thinking about buying one. But just be aware that you may encounter some premature minor deficiencies in the finish of the Daiwa FT Surf Rod.
    I am still using my Daiwa FT Surf Rod. I still like it even though I am slightly down about the finish because this Daiwa FT Surf Rod HAD EVERYTHING I WAS LOOKING FOR IN A ROD TO USE FROM SHORE: Long, well balanced, made of fiberglass, aluminum oxide guides all the way to the tip. I am just disappointed in the finish quality compared to my reliable, trustworthy Berkley BIG GAME spinning rod. The Berkley BIG GAME rod is a great reliable, durable rod at an affordable price and easily accessible. It’s just the Daiwa FT Surf Rod was longer, had aluminum oxide guides ALL THE WAY TO THE TIP and the price was still good.

    Its called you get what you pay for. I have the 9' and 12' daiwa ft. Had them since they came out and they still look new feels new. These rods arent made for big game. Mire like small to mid size game. These were made for people nit serious about fishing or travelling and dont wanna spend a lot of money. My cheaper rods is treated w the same respect as my expensive rods and held up just as long. These rods are meant for small to mid size game up to 10 lb and if you're lucky 15 lb but nothing bigger. So to say they suck is an understatement it just depends on the type of game your targeting and if the equipment fits the type of game your targeting. Also these types of rods are not meant for boosting the fish out of the water nor are they used for locking down your drag tight. Like I said I had mines since this new FT Daiwa series came out and I had no problems...I like these rods. If they get stolen then its not so bad 😂

    I have two Daiwa Samurai rods, and semi-retired one this year. The reels were ok but I snapped off the tip of one of them earlier this year and it wasn't even much of a pinch to the tip. Swapped it out for an Ugly Stik G2 and have been real happy with it so far.

    • @lowetj
      @lowetj Před 2 lety

      Had the same thing happen to the tip of a samurai rod i bought and used for bait this year

    • @ccol009
      @ccol009 Před 10 měsíci

      It’s because it’s probably graphite. Graphite is brittle. I fish almost everyday and I had a Samurai (the reel actually failed before the rod). Fiberglass rods are flexible and won’t snap from regular use. They may be a little more in weight.
      But when you are like me… I like paying for long term reliability and durability. Fiberglass rods are your answer.

    Suggestion Mr Hood....Im sure you’ve heard the phrase you get what you pay for. Instead of spending $20-$50 for rods that only last you a few months, why don’t you spend the extra money and get your self some whisker seeker, slimecat, TWC, or big cat fever rods. All these will last you a lifetime. A little more than what you want to spend, but they are worth every penny. They will put up with the abuse you put them through

    Superglue works fine. I have lost the inner guide of a heavy rod (pilkfishing in norway with 1lbs pilks) and it worked perfectly with superglue. They most only superglue the guides in the metal ring. BTW: you should mount a hook holder on your rods, mucxh better than stitching the hook in the handle. I hope the new rods are stiff enough, the tipp looks quite thin.

    I run 3 of the Ft 7' fiberglass conventional boat rods, I hate to hear about the surf models sucking I love the boat rods for flatheads.
    Edit: after a hard season of abuse I'm still running these. The eye inserts are a little cheap but these are working great for heavy cheap catfish rods HOWEVER I will be switching to the bass pro solid fiberglass "snagging special" rods & adding the burning shark reels

      The only thing I'll say in support of their bad reputation is that things have changed a lot in the last 15 years. New 808 zebcos used to be great reels 15 years ago but I went through 3 last year before giving up on getting any more of them.
