    Artlist, Epidemic Sound, Filmstro, Musicbed, Soundstripe.. there's a ton of platforms that offer music licensing for youtube, commercial use, businesses, and advertisements.. but I unfortunately found a reason to start trying to find the "best" one. I got a copyright claim on a 30 second video I made myself, for my wife's business (that I am part owner in) - and while I understand Epidemic Sound reached out and reversed a lot of those claims (they were sent out in an automated fashion) I realized that my wife's business page wasn't covered by my epidemic sound license at all and the claim shouldn't be reversed, because it only covers a single social media account per platform, per subscription. This was incredibly frustrating, so I looked through the licensing terms of all the available platforms I could find, and Artlist was by far the least expensive and most versatile platform in terms of being easy to use, and maximum flexibility on their licenses.. one license covers every project on every platform forever, and you can keep using songs in future projects after you cancel your license.

      I got a 1 year subscription to Filmstro as part of a bundle, and have to say I personally love it, because while in the past I often edited to the music, if the goal is trying to tell a story. I literately spent 2-3 days sifting through almost right music to something that fit both the mood and pacing I was after. With Filmstro I can find something that has the the proper pacing and feel, and then use it's sliders for emphasizing and de-emphasizing areas of the story resulting in a far more satisfying end product in much less time than playing the music hunt game. While it's no where as good as paying a quality composer to score something, for me, it's so much more organic. Yes, it involves more time focused on sculpting the music, but other than the need to occasionally add littler music emphasis elements , like orchestral hits on top I've found it to be a less time consuming process. Also I wanted to add that, for my process, I edit with Resolve, and render out a relatively garbage quality video for Filmstro so it takes little time to render, as it's only for Filmstro syncing purpose, then render out the audio only from Filmstro and layer it back into my Resolve project vs rendering my final result out of Filmstro. I personally can't imagine why one would ever render their final video directly from Filmstro. Anyhow just an opinion and personal feedback.

    I jumped on Audiio from Musicbed for similar headaches. I get they like to tailor to CZcams content creators, but I primarily use music for short films which I often enter into festivals. So I didn't want any sort of headaches and was told directly by Musicbed I had to bump to a higher license that's nearly 10 times as much per month to use their licensed music for Film Festivals. Crazy if you ask me, if I'm lucky a few thousand people may see the film in a festival run. The possibility to reach those numbers and surpass them is far greater on CZcams, not sure why film festival falls under the "commercial usage" membership...oh well.

However, they did allow me to use their music commercially and for broadcast commercials without added commercial fees. Super helpful for small creators doing small business commercials locally. Music bed also has absolutely beautiful music for cinematic films, but is also very expensive lol! Only one use per video and also does not allow you to make smaller cuts with any changes like adding a logo to the end of those smaller cuts from that same film you licensed to 🙄🙄🙄 The smaller clips would be for social media like a teaser then adding logos to each end. They consider that a “new film” and want you to pay again for each “new” cut which is a small res 15-30 sec clip from the film you already licensed. Eeesh 😤

    Tommy: this might be a bit late to the party but since you made this video a new service, Audiio has emerged. It has an option for a one time payment license for music and SFX that appears to be the same licensing agreement as Artlist has. The lifetime for music is $299 while the yearly for music and SFX is the same as Artlist. Lifetime on SFX is one time $299. I got the lifetime music because I don't usuall need SFX and the music library is growing quite quickly since I got it. Same sort browsing method as Art;list: genre, mood, tempo, style etc. Might be worth checking out.

    • @TommyCallaway
      @TommyCallaway  Před 3 lety

      I have looked at their licensing - it’s good, I may do a video soon, but there are slightly more restrictions on using it for VOD (like Netflix) which still require additional commercial upgrades. Adequate for someone like me, though artlist is still better IMO. Also, I did find the music on Artlist was much closer to my personal taste, finding tracks I liked on audiio was pretty difficult. I only really liked one or two tracks after browsing for like an hour. I might have to give it a month or so, then I’ll check it out again.

    Do I have to pay for each music I download,even after I subscribed for 1 year?

    • @TommyCallaway
      @TommyCallaway  Před 3 lety +1

      you pay once per year, the same annual fee. If you don’t need any more new music than you’ve already downloaded then you can cancel and keep using what you’ve already downloaded.

    Man. I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. I’ve been a fan of Artlist for a long time now. I have the Film Riot crew to thank for that. Of course you want to be able to share your work or parts of your work without having to relicense it for each clip. I’m thankful a new way forward exists.

    Epidemic sound copy-write claimed two social media videos we did for a fundraiser for foster children. Both were on our linked Facebook account, but since one was shared after I left Epidemic, they claimed it, and the other I made a very minor text edit and re-uploaded after leaving Epidemic. If you ever cancel Epidemic expect to be claimed on all of their music even if you're "following their guidelines". The music is (pretty much) only yours until you leave. #EpidemicFail

    You said (7:04) that I can't download the music from Artlist and upload to my channel without a video behind.
    I was thinking to download a few songs of them and put them together into a 1 hour relaxing music. Do you think is that ok with only a cover photo ? Maybe if I will mention them in the description ... ?
    Thank you Tommy ! :)

    Somebody hacked into Jewelbeats defunct site and is sending out nefarious emails demanding payment or else threatening realeasing some supposed compromising information on subscribers. Jewebeat went out of business in 2014 or so, It was laughable to get that letter saying they had video footage from my web camera, which hasn't been plugged in or if it was then it was facing the wall. Bunch of boneheaded miscreants.
    Artlist looks intriguing, thanks for the referral and recommendations.

  • @PositunesMusic
    @PositunesMusic Před 3 lety +1

    This company should have been named Plague Sound. They are setting a new standard in ripping artists off. There has been cases when epidemic offered $20 for a song/track, not some fart SFX but a full music track, and they want a quality, well produced one. And they want to own ALL THE RIGHTS to it ... FOREVER. This is insane you'd say but believe it or not, there are people who agree to those terms. Plus to sign up with them as an artist you can't be a member of a performer's rights organization (PRO) such as EMI or ASCAP or PRS, SOCAN or whatever.

  • @LuisMarquez80
    @LuisMarquez80 Před 4 lety

    musicbed has the best music IMO...I just wish they had sound FX

    • @TommyCallaway
      @TommyCallaway  Před 4 lety

      Musicbed license is more restrictive and significantly more expensive ($89 a month) if you intend on doing anything like what I mentioned in the first minute of this video. Most platforms are extremely reasonable for month-to-month self CZcamsr users, musicbed and epidemic sound included.. unless you add the costs up over more than a year or two, then artlist always comes out cheaper. Only gotta buy one year :)
