Hey Ian! Glad you liked it so much :) it's a little bit of both. Honey is sort of this sweet golden liquid that looks and tastes good at first, but ultimately isn't very nourishing. It can seem solid until a little time passes and then it's drips away. I think we were writing about music and feeling at the time like maybe we were getting a little too caught up in the little bit of success we were having, and not focusing enough on our real love of music itself. In the song, the narrator is trading "the goddess for the gold" and I remember at the time being pretty neglectful of my partner because we were so caught up with CUTTS. Most of our music is more about what we fear we're becoming or what we wish we could be, rather than who we really are. The chorus lyrics are "I make love for money, trade my heart for honey, wouldn't kick you out the door for nothing, you know I do it all for some." I think Honey is both of us painting a picture of this shallow sort of person who is selling their deepest emotions for clicks or plays or money or attention or whatever. They will leave their partner at the drop of a hat just to get a taste of the sweet nectar of success.
