Dune videos coming soon!
Hey I was just wondering because it might be in your ball park, but will you make a video on Elden Ring lore?
soo hype for dune video. Been watching some of your streamvods on raised by wolves love it. Are you going to do any more videos on Raised by wolves or maybe some content on Wheel of time?
Also Raised by Wolfes S2, comon just do it
So in the end their solution was to make the spacing guild?
Is this old or new?
They spent a considerable amount of time building up the sidestory with the kids and the alien "dog" all for it to go nowhere. It only would have paid off if there was a seventh season, so I was legitimately expecting one.
To be fair, this season wasn't supposed to wrap up the whole story of The Expanse. The main purpose of this season was to wrap up the war between The Belt and the Inners which is what Book 6 is and what these 6 seasons have been building towards. The Protomolecule and Laconia stuff isn't even in Book 6 at all and those are the main focus of books 7-9. The Laconia stuff in the season was the writers laying a foundation for the series to possibly be continued in the future. Since there is a 30 year time jump after Book 6, this was a natural pause point for the story. It may never be finished, and that would be a shame, but at least they left it open for the possibility. And I was still satisfied with the ending we got.
I mean the alien dog plot line wasn’t my fav but it did have a complete arc this season, even if it was a little underwhelming. Finding out that the dog story is actually adapted from a short novel outside the mainline series helped recontextualize it for me
@k g The short story also ends pretty much the same way with the kids running away into the woods and leaving it open ended. Definitely understand how some show only watchers could be a little disappointed with this season, but I think the writers did a fantastic job of adapting what they could while leaving it open for the future
Theres also a 30 year time jump, and the actors and crew are worn out. They want a break and they deserve one. Season 7 will happen in a few years. Theres no way its not given the stagnant ideas left in hollywood.
@ANGRON are any of the first 6 book characters in the last 3 books as old men/women?
Camina Drummer is easily my favorite character from the show, and Cara Gee played her perfectly. I especially loved her friendship/rivalry with Ashford, it was always such a joy to see both of them in a scene playing off one another.
Me too! Camina is the very best. Amazing character and actress. She is fuking epic.
Agreed cabt wait to see her as a starship captain I'm star trek or a Jedi knight in the near future.
Does that mena you'll be playing the game coming out in 2023 with her as the main character?
Ashford was so amazing too, I almost cried when he died.
I wish her argument with Naomi from the 2nd to last episode would've gotten a mention in this video. It was so perfect. When Naomi says: "All we can do now, is stand by the people we love." I was instantly thinking: "Fuck you with your high ground, almost trying to emotionally manipulate Drummer. That's not how you convince her." And then she answers, in this pained whisper: "Fuck you. You self-righteous shit." I started crying with her. Watched that scene a dozen times already and it still makes me cry.
I'm baffled that they didn't wanna make anymore seasons, this was one of the better shows of this time
im sure they want to make more, the problem is the stress and effort they go through for the 6 seasons to bring their vision of the story to life. They might be creatively exhausted so maybe taking a break from the expanse will bring a better expanse then a rushed one straight away
There's a 30 year gap so it's possible they're going to wait a while for the next seasons
I'm not baffled that Amazon doesn't want to _pay_ for more seasons.
@username.exenotfound294 I would love for that to happen, but tbh. I doubt getting the band back together after a decade of doing other stuff is very likely. We can always hope though.
@Alexander Hetzel Jeff bezos apparently loves the show so I'm sure it'll return even if it's a spin off 30 years later about laconia
I love the character arc of drummer. Her getting to the top was a long series of extreme highs and lows, and in the end she pulled off a silent coup which was totally in character. Excellent writing through and through, and an excellent performance from Cara Gee!
Cara Gee...Hubba Hubba!!!
Agreed
Drummer ended up being my favorite character. The best thing about this series was that character changed as things progressed. In many shows the characters are basically always the same no matter what happens to them. It makes this show realistic with how alliances changes and politics and relationships. This show had exelent characters and I loved them. And I loved the way they dealt with Phillip. Kind of like how Naomi in the end saved his son, although she never would know it.
@SorbusAucuparia Best Scifi series I've watched in a long time. I really wish they could've made more seasons.
@guineapiig I wholeheartedly agree. There are some shows that started great but got lost in somewhere trying to be surprising or forgeting the characters. Often characters do stuff that people seem random and it ruins them. That happened with game of thrones. It started great with nuance and characters reacting to things that happened in the show. They had this idea of characters doing certain things that did not seem properly motivated and thus did not seem to fit where the characters were in their development and story arch. Instead they should have likely changed the end game to give characters an arch that seemed fitting.
This show was filled to the brim with characters step above the best characters of any other show. For me, the best sci-fi show ever made.
If you want another show with excellent character development, I would really recommend the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series. It has cool space battles, but it also really goes into the human aspect of fighting to survive and losses along the way.
For me, it is a very close second to BSG. Jim Holden is my all time favorite sci-fi protagonist though.
@Random Stuff by Chrisso say we all.
One item is missing: The reason Book 7-9 were not adapted is that this is a separate story - that plays 30 years later. Which puts real problems on the actors, which suddenly should be 30 years later. Essentially a new series, with new casting.
And I do not understand why they killed Alex in the series, while he's actually still alive in the books.
@Смолин Сергейbecause of SA allegations of the actor and they had to kill him off
@Смолин Сергейdude was accused of sexual assault and harassment by over 30 different individuals, many of which have screenshots to back up their allegations. If even a quarter of them are true, the dude's an absolute creep, and not someone any studio can afford keeping around. Given the best evidence on the matter suggests that between 2-10% of allegations are false, do the math.
@Izak Wow, did not know that.
@Смолин Сергейme too. now his sudden death makes sense...
In my opinion, I think this was definitely one of the best sci-fi shows ever created. It had great character arcs that went very deep. The battles in space were simply amazing.
I really love Holden's Chad moment. I think you can look at it in different ways. It's not just a character growth, but also perhaps a jadened Holden who realizes that if he doesn't take the presidency of the Transport Union, they're just going to pick someone far less capable anyway just to make sure the have that person under their thumb, as often happens with people in power. So instead, Holden has to take the position to make sure the one person who is capable gets it. That's what pisses off Avasarala the most, I believe, as now she doesn't have someone she knows and can manipulate, and instead has to deal with an equal.
Also, Drummer is badass. She deserves it.
It's just doing the right thing. He didn't lie. I don't think he promised as a clause in his contract to stay on for a certain time span - gotta read the fine print hahaha - and actually Avasarala thought she had guilted and shamed and pressured Holden into accepting the role and he knew exactly what she was doing and also why, manipulative as she is. And he turned it around. Omitting facts is not lying. And fulfilling his contract as signed is also perfectly legal. Of course he knew what she expected, and he also knew that she thought she finally got him. Hahahahhaa. Joke's on you, Holden's smarter. That was so badass.
You can just call it Holden's moment, people will understand without the OMAGAD GIGACHAD OMEGALUL GET IT GUYS
And yet she still threatened to undo the vote, one on one with him, and let him convince her otherwise. For a real bitch, politician, she is a deep character who is more open to negotiation than she appears at face value.
She is one of my favorite sci fi anti-heroes in quite some time.
The Stargate O'Neill reference , whether intentionally or not, is a reference to the movie and not the show.
O'Neil in the movie had only one 'L'.
When RDA accepted the role for the show he differentiated the character from the movie not just with the humor but by adding a second 'L' to O'Neill.
In the show he caled it out a few times saying there was another O'Neill in the Airforce with only 1L and that he has no sense of humor.
Indeed. Came to the comments to say exactly this^.
That's O'Neill, two L's! *Holds up three fingers*
@Erik Karlsson The other guy had no sense of humor.
Oh my god, I never kniew that! So many jokes of him specifically telling people "O'Neill, two L's " when he introduced himself make sense now.
There are a few O'Neils in the USAF, here's one who as far as I can ascertain, is still serving:
Published Oct. 19, 2018

GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- The 434th Communications Squadron welcomed Lt. Col. David O’Neil as its newest commander Oct. 13, in a ceremony marked by time honored tradition and customs.
The squadron’s newest commander comes to Grissom from Scott Air Force Base, where he served as the US Cyber Command Liaison Officer to the US Transportation Command.
I loved the Ashford and Drummer duo. They were excellent how they played off each other, supported each other, and hated each other. That's a damn good friendship.
The Strange Dogs part of the season only made sense as a teaser for more Expanse sometime in the future.
Whether that will happen remains unknown.
It was also ever-so-slightly tied to the Duarte-Marcos interactions, but I essentially agree.
Yeah, awful decision to write it into this season when more time was needed for the main story. So many bad decisions made this season
@Steven Chiavaroli yeah it was very rushed. which is sad because this is a big and awesome parts of the books.
Minor spoiler (haven't read them yet myself though), but there's
a time jump between book 6 & 7
I think it was more of a "GO READ THE BOOKS!" type of a teaser.
You know the sad thing? Amazon dropped a show like this and is making a show like The Rings of Power. Even if it didn't follow the other books. You have so many stories you could tell. It had an amazing cast, crew, and writers.
They cared more about diversity and less about story with the rings of power .
@DesertFernweh It blows my mind that the idea a dwarf or elf could be black triggers some Americans so much. It certainly tells more about you than it does Amazon.
Do tell, where did you get your training in mythical creature genetic purity? Trump University perhaps? Is it OK for dragons to be black? If so, why is that different?
@Peter Murton WTF are you talking about?
It has been honor and privilege, to be a part of this journey watching these videos with all of you. Safe journeys on all your endeavors.
I honestly don't think this series is done.
@The DON yeah, I think we might see more in a couple of years.
It has just begun 🤫
John Anderton from Minority Report
@The DON On can hope.
I really hope the final 3 books make it to series. I’m currently reading the books right now, they are amazing… The TV programme is incredible… and an adaptation of a story this epic, deserves its true finale. One of the most impressive things I take from the TV programme, is the actors’ portrayal of the characters. They are absolutely spot-on and a true nod to the source material.
To be clear, Naomi's problem with Clarissa is not her relationship with Amos, it's the fact that she's murdered numerous people, tried to frame Holden for murder, as a result almost got the Roci and everyone on it destroyed by the Behemoth's torpedo, and personally tried to murder Naomi with a mech suit.
Also, I would say Duarte in the show is still depicted as quite sincere and respectful - to all those worthy of his respect (in his eyes). Laconia has no patience for people they view as ungrateful terrorists and malcontents. They have no respect for Marco's faction, simply using them as a tool. I don't really see the on screen portrayal as at all inconsistent with the books.
Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but I think "Buck, E" is a reference to GSGT Edward Buck from Halo 3: ODST. Orbital Drop Shock Trooper that drops "feet first into hell", similar to the way Bobbie and Amos do when they attack the Ring Station. Buck was voiced by none other than Nathan Fillion who you all know plays some famous SciFi characters.
Yep, there's also Kevin Flynn from TRON.
I'm sad this is the last season. I was REALLY looking forward to seeing more Amos. He's BY FAR my favorite character. He's like a true psychopath who's somehow able to suppress half those instincts and do it long term. If you were ever in a real fight, Amos is the guy you'd want at your back, that's for sure. Though let's be honest here, the entire show is rife with ridiculously awesome characters. I'd almost pay good money to see a throwdown between Amos and Bobby. They'd probably have to have rules and a ref though to keep from killing each other. :P
I'm glad they didn't ruin it. Usually at this point writers, etc, ruin a series. That's why I appreciate Firefly series. I wanted more when it got cancelled, but I'm to the point I hate it more when a series runs until it's painful to watch anymore, like G.O.T did.
@B L: I actually liked the later parts of GOT better to be honest. The early bits were too psychopathic and "let's throw reality in your face, humans can be terrible to each other". It's like they hurt and killed characters just to prove they could. Ah well, whatever floats each of our proverbial boats! :)
@COBS: Sharpening Your FPS Skills Hah. You probably liked the ending of the Lost TV series, too. Be honest. 😀
@B L: Lol! No idea, I've never seen it. :P
In the books there IS a fight between Amos and Bobbie. Amos becomes increasingly unstable after Clarissa's death and when he finally, explosively pops, Bobbie is the one in the room. I don't want to spoil it for you. You'll have to read the books to find out how it turns out, but, no, there *really were no rules.
I actually really enjoyed the dog storyline. I've read the main books and was thrown for a loop when Cara and Xan showed up. It was really nice to get a little backstory on them, and get a glimpse of early day Laconia. It didn't take too much screen time, and while I'm usually not a fan of child actors those two were fine
I also think it was absolutely perfect. Because it so vastly expands the horizon of the series. And it's called "The Expanse" for a reason.
Yeah, the kids were awesome.
Those actors are siblings, they end up in a decent amount of sci-fi stuff, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for example.
You can read the last three books after only having watched the show. While the plot is different in some ways, there is a 30 year time gap between books 6 and 7 which renders most of the differences quite irrelevant.
Only things you have to be aware of is that in the books Alex is still alive and the Drummer of the books is a very different character from the show (she has only a minor part in the early books).
This is the best sci fi spaceTV show I've ever seen. The attention to detail is incredible. The characters are incredible and really well acted. The last season was alittle bit of a let down. But i enjoyed every second of this show. I started watching it out of curiosity having heard nothing about it during season 3 and boy am i glad i did.
I had no idea any of this existed until about 3 weeks ago. I am a life long sci-fi fan. This has very quickly became one of my favorites. I have to know the rest of the story and plan on reading the books. But I really wish it would have not gotten canceled.
It's a good pausing point for the show, because the next books take place 30 years in the future, so they probably will have to go with all brand new actors anyways or extreme makeup
@JiiJii Nah. It's a 30-year gap with anti-aging drugs. In the books the characters are described as going grey around the temples, that kind of thing. They aren't old-old, they're effectively late 40s or so despite being chronologically in their 50s or 60s. They might remark how doing X crazy stunt would have been easier 30 years ago, but Amos is still whupping ass and Bobbie is still a badass. Their age is more of an aside than a practical consideration, that's how not-old they are.
Such a brilliant overview of the ending of this series. I loved it, but there was so much going on, I sometimes felt left behind. Your clarity about the story was wonderful.
John Anderton: Minority Report, Joseph Cooper : Interstellar, Jason Nesmith: Galaxy Quest, Doug Quaid: Total Recall 1990, Kevin Flynn: Tron 1982, Kara Thrace: Battlestar Galactica
Shepard SG Atlantis
@Robi Sure not B5?
What?
@Robi John Shepard SG Atlantis. The Initial on the board is C., so it isn't John Shepard.
C. Shepard - Commander Shepherd, the hero of the original Mass Effect video game trilogy.
The Expanse is easily one of my favourite shows; I really wasn't expecting it to be so good. I wonder if the shows are enough to start reading the last 3 books, though. I'd really like to know more about the Duarte and Laconia plot lines.
Just finished the last 3 books...you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't read them
Do it. I absolutely and unequivocally recommend you do it. It is SO worth the pay off!
Speaking of Gollum, the scene in S2 where the proto-hybrid grasps the nuclear core and gets fried in the Roci's engine is an almost identical pose as Gollum grasping the ring and falling into Mt. Doom. Both so obsessed with their "Precious" that they are oblivious to their deaths by fire.
This was an excellent show. It's a shame it ended.
Just finished this beautiful series last night. I'm amazed I had never heard of it... The representation of many things in space are just so well done I can't believe it's not the standard.
I loved the characters and I'd wish they would continue the story
Amos didn't "loose" the devil head pin exactly, he had to leave it with the guards when he went to visit Clarissa in the Ultra High Security prison.
Jeez wow. Good memory. Or too many rewatches ... OMG I miss that series that whole scene was so cool in the security prison and escaping it after the asteroid attack
Jeez wow. Good memory. Or too many rewatches ... OMG I miss that series that whole scene was so cool in the security prison and escaping it after the asteroid attack
I loved the Alien Dogs plot. Emma Ho, the girl playing Cara, did an amazing job. I really adore the scene where Duarte talks to Cara after Xan death, explaining what sacrifice means. Top notch scene, perhaps my favorite of season 6.
This show is my favourite ! So well thought out. Dreams of more may someday come true
Hey I know there's not a ton of hype around this show anymore, but it would be amazing to see a breakdown of the lore and intricacies that take place in the story after the 6th book
I wished this show would have a sequel, it was sooo good!
Always the best summation / reviews from Alt Shift. Always insightful, always entertaining. Thanks.
Alex doesn't die in the books. They should have simply replaced the actor with somebody else. The character was sorely missed, since he was indeed the glue that held the crew together.
I was super bummed that the actor playing him turned out to be a slime ball.
My vote for Best Book Series and Best SciFi TV adaption of a book series. The last three books take place a few decades after the first six so there's plenty of room for a long pause. A disturbing thought crossed my mind watching this great summary of the show end - Did Amazon stop or hopefully pause the series because the Tolkien Rings of Power's huge money needs crowded out this show? The Expanse was also expensive, and I suspect Amazon had to make some choices. That's unfortunate because this adaptation was so well done whereas the ROP - at least the first season - was....less than....well....how to put this diplomatically? The ROP was not a home run. There's hope because The Expanse reflects so positively on AMazon's reputation whereas the ROP was so bad maybe....
Still wished Titan could have made it in S6. Having read the books, I miss a lot of 'scenes' but still they managed to fit in or make altered versions that are a nice nod to the books. It is just a shame Dawes could not be back and they had to cut down the runtime to 6 episodes, and also Covid hit.
It would be cool if someone did a video on the creative contributions of all the usual "invisible people" connected to this video series adaptation, the:
- Stage Set Designers
- Costume Designers
- Tatoo Designers
- Practical Effects Designers
- Environmental Video Screen graphics designers
- Spaceship / Hardware Designers
- Computer Graphics Designers
- Sound Effects Designers
- Typography Designers
- The people who helped construct the ethnic speaking accents of the various factions
- The casting people
- even the producers and any challenges they faced in funding this series.
- even the scriptwriters and any challenges they faced in adapting
Man, this show is so great. The sets are SO on point.
I really liked this show. Very well done, great cast. Hope they can bring it back.
I was getting excited to see the alien dogs arc, we get new location, new people, and more understanding of the alien tech, it feels like we're opening a new chapter for the earth-mars-belters
but knowing the book 7 is set 30 years into the future, it made sense to end the show in season 6, I hope they can renew this show in 5/10 years with the same cast, and probably more cooler cgi and set.
this is such a great video, makes me excited to know the next story. I guess I really have to read the book now, lol
Thank you for that beautiful elegy to a series I often touted as the best classic science fiction show on TV. I hope the future holds more stories for us in this universe.
I’m going to have to get the books to see how it all plays out. Though with three remaining, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them done on the big screen as a trilogy.
Another great journey thru another great series with you -- As always, a great recap -- -- Looking forward to many more!
Great video! I've read the later books and look forward to their adaptation for TV, just hoping there isn't too long a wait.
The books were amazing. I hope they make this all the way to the end of them because they did a fair job of representing it in the expanse series for TV
It was a great season finale, but I had no idea it was the last season! So disappointed we won't see more of the worlds beyond Medina for a long time yet.
I feel like alot of people haven't read the books to understand why the last three books weren't adapted. There is a MASSIVE time jump between Books 6 and 7. I think its about 20 years or so and the efforts of making the actors look and sound older alongside a few other things would have been too much effort for the cost.
I'm sure they'll eventually adapt it, I would hope so at least. But I would strongly recommend people read the book if you want a really nice ending to the entire series.
The Expanse is awesome! Thank you for your analysis!
Great video, really enjoyed watching and hearing comparisons with the books since I haven't read them as yet.
So I was kinda right when I theorized how they might be like the Keeper's from Mass Effect among several other theories a couple of months back. Other theories were that they were either creatures that evolved to use the protomolecule or that they were creatures that had devolved, sort of like the creatures in Raised by Wolves.
I'm kinda glad that it turned out to be the "Keeper theory", it's very much on brand.
I'm so sad that the show was cancelled... i particularly prefer medieval themes such as lord of the rings and game of thrones... but The expanse was so good as the two and convinced me that this show , is the best show of the genre. i didn't know that the show was based on books, and now that i know, i'll finish the show reading the books.
Thanks for the video, it was a nice refreshing video of the past events .
23:49 I also add to AMOS that the devil mask symbol is actually a methaphorical way to depict him. Behind massiv anger and violence... he's actually a good guy. Something our actual society has forgot : to protect peace and fight evil... sometimes... you have to be evil. Something you see in AMO's transist to earth in season 4 (or 5 i don't remember), where he smashes thugs and enjoys it. It also vents his anger and makes him a better man. It gives him purpose while sending and direct message to evil persons : you are a wolf craving for sheeps... but watch out... some dogs are out there ready to bite...
The Expanse tv show is fantastic and your conclusions are excellent. As usual with this channel : thank you and keep doing this kind of work !
N.B : note that anger is always motivated and so a reaction to violence. Hate is gratuitous. Cheers !
Pretty much every name on that list is some kind of sci-fi reference, except for a couple who are named after Naren Shankar's martial arts teachers. D. Quaid is Doug Quaid from Total Recall, A. Rogan is Alex Rogan from The Last Starfighter, E. Buck is gunnery sergeant Edward Buck from the Halo series, L. Starr is probably Lucky Starr from the Asimov novels of the same name (even if my brain immediately thought of Lone Starr from Spaceballs). The Expanse wiki has the full breakdown of the whole list.
Can’t forget jack cooper from titanfall 2 :)
Kara Thrace from Battestar Galactica
I like Lone Starr better.
Kevin Flynn from Tron
R. Levine was teacher Rob Levine. Not Richard Levine from The Lost World
is "Banks, L" a reference to the author Ian M Banks, maybe?
I love that one of the names on the display is ‘Buck, E.’
Seems like a good mission for an ODST.
Like the idea in the Expanse, even when you come up with a way to manage a problem, it is only for the short term. Eventually, someone else will emerge and the means you had for managing the problem is gone and you have to understand and deal with the real issue. The issue flourishes in the last three books.
A prequel series based on the backstory of Amos would hold my interest. I think a spin-off based on that would fly -- literally. I wish somebody would go on with that if the continuation of the Expanse from where it left off doesn't happen.
Great series based on the books hopefully a follow up on the 3 remaining books will be done in the near future to complete the film adaptation.
Good Synopsis of the Final Season . Thanks for Explaining the " Dogs " .
I did notice the Assault Crew names during original watching . Great Homage to those that went before .
i can't believe i didn't know about the existence of the books & the tv show just a year ago, cause The Expanse just might be the best sci-fi series ever and no one talks about it?? truly underrated. hope i get to read the books in the future.
10:03 Kara Thrace is in team Charlie, with Kevin Flynn, while Douglas Quaid from Total Recall is in the first column with Bowman and Shepard.
One of the coolest things about the expanse is that it could have been ended at books 3, 6, or 9. Each would have been a good ending for the series, but book 9 happened to be the best.
They also reference D. Quaid, which probably is pointing to Dennis Quaid's role in Enemy Mine which seems to have influenced the Expanse series.
I am so glad I saw this video!!....
I finished Season 6 & was amazed but all the way through the series I felt things were a bit disjointed & difficult to follow so just thought that it was more aimed at folks who already knew the storyline.....
Then I saw your video & realised there was so much I didn't know or really had never understood so was greatful for the insight............& then found out there were three more bookes to go so that is a BIG WIN!
Thank you again for your video & information.....much appreciated!
Merry Christmas to You & your Family & I hope it's a good one! 🎄🎄
Would love to see videos about the books that haven't been covered in the show
It would be great to make the last 3 books into movies!
I miss the series so much that finding this video was good for me, thank you.
I think it all depends on blu ray sales now. If there's huge demand, they may make book 7-9. So everyone, buy 10 copies of blu rays for each season :)
In the Easter eggs of the names from other sci fi franchises, we also see "Rogan, A" on Bobby's alpha team. I'm pretty sure that's referencing Alex Rogan from "The Last Starfighter". I think Quaid might also be referencing "Total Recall" and "Starr, L" might be referring to Isaac Asimov's character "Lucky Starr". Also, wasn't there a Flynn in "Tron"?
Thanks for putting out this video, I just found The Expanse this week and binged the whole series in a few days and when I got to the end, I was all "That can't be it! While the last episode was a great place to stop there was so much set up on Laconia that they left hanging!".
Great great series! The univers, the geo-politics, the characters, everything was so well done. So why end it like that? It felt like I bought a book but when when I get to the end, I realize someone tore the last chapter away. What a shame. It's as bad as the last season of Game of thrones... But if anyone had the good idea to pick it up where they left it and finish it properly, it would all be forgiven ;-)
Thank you for making this, i was really confused if the season was actually even over or not.
Everything was brilliant about this series such a massive shame they couldn't see the last three books out. Tough for their hardcore fans 🤬😭💯👾
Really liked the video! I'm new to The Expanse and just finished the series-I think it is a great show and hope they do continue it. Now on to the books!
The end of the book series is EPIC af. Especially the epilogue. I don't think they will, but I hope we get some books where the epilogue shows us humans are at. But I'm sure most others who are fans of even just the TV show would love it.
I don't get how so many ppl in the comments don't know why Amazon had to stop this particular series after the 3 seasons. They had a contract. It was talked about for months back when they got it and after the show ended. They announced a while ago they were going to start a whole new show eventually to finish the last 3+ books of story. But there's a huge time jump so it'll be a whole new cast I imagine. they're seniors in the last few books after they first lose to the former Martians and their megaships.
I really appreciate it how the show subverted expectations by acknowledging cliche acknowledging cliche's and then ignoring them. Like of this was on the CW or fox there would have been a love triangle with Marcos and james and naomi or amus and naomi. Or with the reporter and holden. Amus would just be the muscle with no character development who always gets his ass kicked to show off how strong the bad guy is. Instead people act like people. I didn't like how naomi spend most of season6 crying not actually doing anything. But i think the show was good and got a better ending then most shows that go past 3 seasons.
I wish this season hadn't been so rushed - so much was left hanging/teased.
Same! But I think they are hoping to get another series or a miniseries going. Plus I also heard that the authors are currently working on a new series it'll be very different from the expanse so perhaps they want to take a step back and figure out what to do if anything is done with the expanse further beyond their book series.
I think it was funding issue more than anything
I watched every other season over and over again ....i only felt the need to watch the last season once....meh
@RAWLZI In Ty and that guy they let it shine through that it was more of a time and scheduling issue than money, because of covid they had to implement work shifts ect. which slowed down production.
@NoWacko It wouldn't surprise me if behind the scenes, it was a victim of Bezos' and Amazon's obsession with having "their" Game of Thrones. Despite the series having every bit the potential (and actually getting finished) to be a GoT contender, Amazon snatched up the IP and tried to go cheap with ten-episode seasons, gimmick release schedules that were obvious attempts to nickel-and-dime Prime subscribers, and left the series almost completely unsupported on the marketing and merchandise front.
Season 4 I suspect didn't meet expectations -- which how could it have, it was set up to fail -- and they finished out to season 6 out of obligation. As everyone with a pair of eyes can now see with Wheel of Time -- and what will certainly be the case with Rings of Power -- Amazon Studios has no patience or faith to let a series develop if it isn't an immediate smash hit.
Expanse likely wouldn't have gotten a season 2 in the first place, had it been on Amazon all along.
I heard the reason for the "Pause" after the 6th season is because there is a time jump between the 6th and 7th book. So having a gap between the seasons makes sense. Treating the next several seasons a different show, like the space between Star Trek, and ST Next Generation makes sense. If they just picked up again in the fall with the next season, people would want their favorite characters back to continue the story about the gap period, for which we don't have books to reference.
Yup, a 30-year jump, and everyone is much older. Book 7 takes a long time setting things up and then books 8 and 9 are a ride.
i hope for season 7-9 ... can't understand why the heck they ended it
Money .
@John Cunningham there's another problem: book 7 takes place about 30 years after the end of book 6. In fact, all books 2-6 take place at least about a year after the end of the previous, but this is a small enough gap to adjust for / ignore. When there's a 30 year gap, it's much harder to account for the lack of aging in the actors.
@mihaitha They take anti-aging drugs in the novels. We've already heard in the show how the average life expectancy on Earth/Mars is 100+. Audiences would be fine with minimal effects due to aging. Alternatively, or additionally, they can just change it to a 20 year jump for the show. Either way, acting like it's the reason to not make further seasons is a bit off the mark I'd say.
I have not read the books, but could they not just shorten that gap to 5 or 10 years, for the show, instead of 30 like the book? That would be easy enough to age the actors. Would not be the first thing changed for the series from the books.
I didn't even realise this was the final season lol, I was still waiting for more.
They did Alex dirty, but I guess it's good to have some kind of tangible stakes in such epic storylines.
I liked Drummer being the Queen of space, but relations between Earth and Mars and the ring space and all that...
All in all a lot of questions left unanswered to me.
To be fair the actor who played Alex was fired from the show for sexual harassment.
Like the other dude said, they didn't have a choice since they had to fire Alex's actor. I think killing him off was better than using another actor.
@Austin Terry Though it would have been funny as hell is all of a sudden they put say, Dave Chappelle in the role. "Are y'all hungry...BITCHES!!! Have some pancakes."
The simpsonesque "My planet needs me" way they wrote Alex out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Shame, was a well written character, and very well played. Did the guy ever get convicted/do any jail time for his behaviour?
@13th Duke of Wybourne I'm not sure and don't feel like looking it up, but I know he admitted/apologized for it.
It sucked so bad cuz he was a huge part of getting the show back on air, I remember him really leading that effort.
If we get season 7-9 at some point in the far future, youre going to have your hands full with Expanse videos. Laconia and the outer colonies is one grand beast.
They shouldn't have ended this awesome series.
I stumbled across this site after it was recommended by a guy that does reviews on up coming movies & series like Netflix etc. I think they were up to series 4 or 5 by the time I found it, so we binged the crap out of it & by then series 5 had ended so we just had for series 6 to be finished, what a freaking ride. I like these explained videos, especially if you have not read the books, it fills in a lot of blanks, like the alien helper dogs, I did not know that bit at all & filled in a major plot point, so thanks for making another video like this.
1:55 It's not the same since Katoa loses self control and even awareness from what I recall, like most of those infected by the protomolecule. From what little they show in the show, Xan remains in self control and awareness. Not going to be turned into tech or become some basic creature hunting for energy.
This is a great show but the abbreviated final season left me wanting. There were definitely a few story/character arcs that could have been better wrapped up. I cannot say it was anticlimactic but for so much investment to come to an end like this seems odd. I really enjoyed the diverse character roles and would love to see some spin off expansion of them. Wishful thinking I know.
This helped so much. Made a confusing, disjointed season feel more legitimate and true. Thank you
The best SF show because of its realism.
Camina was my favourite character - she was beautiful, tough and yet vulnerable too.
On the boarding party roster, K Thrace is Kara Thrace the actress for Starbuck in Galactica as well as her voicing the cartoon and also the live version of Bo Katan in The Mandalorian, J. Anderton is Ton Cruise's character in Minority Report James Anderton, K. Flynn is Kevin Flynn in Tron the creator of ENCOM
I was just recently watching DMZ, and the father son dynamic between Marco and fillip is just the same as Paco and Skull, even down to their we’re just trying to free our people but they’re really just after power.
I'm not very optimistic about continuation of the series. Star Gate Universe also had a natural pause (just as it got good) and they never got awaken. But this is better than what we got with multitude of other series ends.
You missed my favourite easter egg; when Bobbie is about to blow up the railguns, her threat scanners show one of the enemy soldiers as carrying a BFG9001
Kamina Drummer
This a hundred times. I love her so much
This series was one of my favourites. However, I thought that season 6 was really rushed. It didn't do justice to the books the way the other seasons did. This was due to budget constraints caused by the series being cancelled. As such, there will likely not be a continuation of the series on television. It's too bad.
Ps, i also noticed "Quad, D, " which is a reference to Total Recall's "Douglas Quad."
Thanks for the video!
I didn't think the final season felt "too" rushed. Could have had a few more space battle scenes, Laconia got hard done by as it was never explained why they screwed over Inaros and the little girl's resurrection arc was unnecessary.
I sure hope they continue the visual story.
There's an E. BUCK that has to be from Halo. As in Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck from the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. Also a K. Thrace which can only be Kara Thrace, as in "Starbuck" from Battlestar Galactica
I miss the expanse and hope someone takes up the challenge to finish by doing the last 3 books.
I have watch the entire run over 6 times!! I really hope they make the rest of the books into a series. not since Battlestar Galactica has there been a show as good.
Have you tried the legend of the galactic heroes? You can read the novel, watch the old ova, or watch the ongoing 5+ season adaptation
"I WATCHED IT SIX TIMES!" No wait , that was " I shot him 6 times!" -Halloween
Oh, thank you.. The whole segment with the alien dogs was just so out of place and ended so abruptly that I just didn't know what to think of it.. This clarifies so much, except for why it was included to the detriment of giving some more attention to the central plot..
1. potential future movies or TV series 2. book sales 3. helps to justify the decision of Sauveterre to abandon Marco
I am convinced that we will have new seasons of The Expanse, the best SciFi series I have ever seen. Thanks for this explanation.
You liked - but did NOT understand - the storyline?
Damn. I loved this show. The last season must've had horrible advertising. As much as I liked the show, I had no idea S6 was airing, or had even aired. Until i saw your video. Thanks! I guess I can still watch it. Disappointed it's ended though.
I watched the first 3 episodes and then I immediately got the books and have never looked back since, I even named my car The Rocinante 😄.
Whoever came up with the visuals of the Roci taking on the Pela and the Koto, genius!
The books are so fucking awesome aren't they!!
the final novela is out now!
Woooo those last three books are crazy
What irks me a little is that the Expanse books are kind of the blockbuster movies of the sci fi book world and with their success as a tv show they're what a lot of people now associate with literary sci fi, because the genre still has a 'kid adventure,' populist stigma attached to it. When science fiction is just a setting that allows authors both literary geniuses and mediocre to creatively mirror modern society without the restrictions that come with mandatory plausibility in regular fiction.
Yes . The Battle between Rocinante' vs Pela and Kota was Incredibly well done .
Holden was lucky he packed a " Gunnery Sergeant " that day .
