- The seventh round of 2024 Pro Motocross, Southwick, was launched with press activities today, July 12. Vital MX's Lewis Phillips was on hand to discuss a multitude of topics with a handful of riders from various race teams. Hunter Lawrence of the Honda HRC team is candid about his position as the sole Lawrence and what his plans beyond this season could be. 250MX teammate, Jo Shimoda, discusses his exclusion from Team Japan for the 2024 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations as well!

Hunter was presented with personal gain (racing mxgp) and his first thought was how it would effect others. Very well rounded individual and probably make a good team manager/trainer in the future
I agree with Phil, the broadcasts try so hard to hide big crashes or the injuries. They rarely call out who caused the yellow unless it happens on the broadcast. Think about Vialle at Southwick. He went down, Deegan going down last weekend. We have to rely on social media to figure out certain things.
If someone is coming slicing the pack to the front, we have to watch it through the left-hand timing screen. Why are they showing interviews mid race? Instead, they could show the thor battle box for position. It's called a RACE, not the leader, or 6th place. Or whoever they decide to show. And the cuts, oh man some of the worst cuts.
Hunters got a good head on his shoulders man, I hope he gets his 1st 450 o/a right here in MN on my home track! Can't wait for tomorrow!

Thats Crazy Japan asked Shimoda if he wanted to do MXoN 6-7 months before the race, and then he says "No, I can't do that "now"". All involved must have been in a real bad space. Just doesn't make sense

@@motoxray I’m not questioning what he said. I quoted what he said, and it’s my view it’s a BS excuse not to go, 7 months in advance. Joe is now riding well in the bike. And should be riding for Japan.
@@LGAH29 I take your point, however, consider he's trying to come to terms with a new bike, &, imo, was struggling in that regard, plus a lack of confidence, hence his answer. He's clearly in a better place now, though. I imagine different riders will handle a similar situation differently, according to their personality.

Im not knocking a sport phycologist....but the riders would do better with larroco or grant langston or emig coaching them...i helped a bunch of good riders...7 or so....but they already had the mental head very well sorted they were focused when they wandered a little i knew tje tiny little thing they were fearing an i gave them a goal and an answer to focus on problem solved

What Phill said about sports psychologists was weird as hell. It sounded meaninglessly self isolationist. Especially coming from the perspective of a young person where their brains may not be equipped to handle or understand their issues and where they really do need help to preform more optimally. With extreme sports in general depression is quite common, so putting yourself in the position where you won’t accept any help or guidance seems so unnecessary. Sounds kind of like self sabotage. That’s my two cents anyways.
This is Phil's shtick. Who knows if he actually believes it, but it's his character in the sport.

It might be personality and he prefers to do things himself, I don't think he's being open minded to the fact that others might benefit from it. It's incompatible to his personality and he doesn't comprehend how someone could need it. I see both sides, accept help and don't be ashamed when you need it, but learn to rely depend and fight on your own.
