Ok.
I'm gonna start using the line "Constipated with seven balloons" as a figure of speech to describe someone who's infuriated because he's not getting a piece of cake.
That's brilliant 😂
Constipated with seven balloons is tight!
Get Outta Here
That’s gonna be really confusing, I decided.
Oh I’ve been there. We’ve all been there
Imagine how chaotic it would be if literally all figures of speech were created at the same time. No one would have a clue what was going on for a good bit
Yes, congratulations, that was the joke.
"I screwed the pooch on that one."
"You f*cked my dog!?"

@@aknightofislamicarabia5543 In a basic level in which you don’t actually think about what I said sure the concepts share similarities. But no, nice try though I guess?
The "I'm not gonna...I'm not gonna" part just killed me. The delivery of that line was insane.
The delivery was everything
Ryan's deliveries always deliver
I love how angry they are at the use of figures of speech. Makes sense since everyone is so honest in Ryanverse so they just come across as weird lies
Except the professional liar guy, he's allowed to lied.
@@MeilynMeiand the story teller
These guys always have great chemistry together
Right? They really nailed the casting for this series..
I didn't see them doing any chemistry? In fact there was a distinct lack of science involved.
You guys make no sense at all.
They all think alike, I've decided.
@@chrisdouglas1158 Oh not understanding what the previous person said is tight!
As a non-native english speaker, I must thank you because I learnt a couple of expressions I've never heard before.
I tried to find the perfect idiom to express this, but after failing to find any, I felt like I went on a wild goose chase...
Sounds like you're over the moon about having a few more expressions under your belt. Ryan didn't cover a lot of ground but if you learn those by heart you'll be well on your way.
Good luck! Geese are vicious creatures!
Why were you chasing the geese? I hear they are some shifty bastards
well done. I see what you did there. 👍
Make sure you have all your ducks in a row before going on a wild goose chase.
I love the thought of casually offering someone a piece of cake when they’re angry
Did you bring cookies?
and a warm beverage.
Easy as pie
@@commanderty94what flavour

I never realized how confusing these are until I had a child. One time he was super excited to the point it was getting a little obnoxious so I blurted out “Hold your horses!” He suddenly got quiet and said, “But I don’t have any horses Mommy.”
😂😂
So they say so because horses are held in a Stable.. so hold your horses is basically saying be stable.
Also when you're speaking to someone when English isn't their first language and they're like "what do you mean" and you think, what *do* I mean?
That is too precious 😂
This could honestly become a series similar to the Naming Place one. There's way too many idioms for just one video.
the turn of phrase department id wanna see it
@@kylelee1911 Located on the floor below the naming department, creepy guy also works there.
@ryangeorge
How rude! Don't call them idioms. Even if one of them ate party balloons.
fully agree, we need a full series!!!!
It’s so weird that Ryan has the ability to take something that seems normal and make it the most insane thing ever
It's actually super easy, barely inconvenience
The thing is, he’s pointing out an insane thing that has become normal. I mean, why the hell have we just accepted the phrase “it’s raining cats and dogs”?! IT IS INSANE 😂
@@THEE_Kisywisy Yeah like how did we has a society got here.
Who started it and how did it catch on?😂
@@THEE_Kisywisy I actually once read where that saying came from, but I forget what the explanation was. Point is it does have an origin.

I’m such a fan that I also noticed that 🤣 I also look out for “the drinking stuff” and “put you in a room”

This line broke me, I can’t stop laughing. Ryan’s delivery plus repeating it twice….goddammit! I’m now obligated to quote this directly in ALL future situations where it’s applicable! Lolol
I'm just gonna ask everyone I know "Did you bring cookies?" Then just yell "F#%k!" and walk off.

I bet this's how non-English speakers feel when learning English figures of speech
Eng is third language here, and yes. They were weird for a while when I found out about them.
Lmao yeah when I was like 9 I didn't get any of these, now I understand enough
I experienced it the other way round when I tried to translate idioms from my native language into English and people were like Huh? Wth are you on about? 😂
@@tabby73 it's funny how nonsensical figures of speech are when you think about them literally
English is my 2nd language, and I think idioms don't make much sense in any language. Though, I usually got their meanings even after hearing them for the first time (other than weirder ones like beat around the bush).
So idioms are weird in any language.
*Poor Nathaniel. He was a man ahead of his time and he wasn't appreciated for his innovation. He was... Streets Ahead.* 😁🤗
And here I am at square one
"Streets ahead"? I thought it was "miles ahead". I have never heard of something being "streets ahead" unless it was literal.

The horrified reactions to, "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" reminded me of the reaction I got the time I said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a village." Sometimes people just aren't ready.
I'm told it does occasionally take a village. You're fine.
Surprisingly, horse meat is actually not bad. I guess you never know how good the village tastes like 😋
@@madster01 Yeah, when Jack in the Box got in trouble for using horse meat I have to admit that I couldn't tell the difference and didn't care.
As a non-english speaker, this turned out to be surprisingly educational.
"What if in this imaginary- sometimes life...could be like a cookie in some ways."
The delivery perfectly encapsulates a brain trying so very hard to outturn what it thinks it knows.
I thought it was about cookies that were dipped in milk for too long and that therefore it was a kind of warning against being too greedy with soaking time as then the cookie inevitably crumbles. Although upon reflection l guess in that case it would be the way the cookie disintegrates instead because that's more akin to what soggy cookies do and besides l call them biscuits and l don't even like them l much prefer cake and anyway l was wrong.
@@SofaKingShit I thought it was about something breaking apart or failing- perhaps it's your health leading to your death, or perhaps your career.
Man, he keeps hitting the nail on the head with these videos.
What nail , i haven't seen any nail in any of his videos
Clearly he has this confused with some sort of DIY carpentry channel
GET OUT!!!
that sounds VERY painful. I don't like that at all!
I've watched his videos and there's been a distinct lack of nail hitting. Hitting nails on the head is tight!
Some of these video topics could so easily be unfunny if done by someone else but Ryan is so creative with his timing and scripts that these never fail to entertain.
That's so true. I saw someone else attempt a Pitch Meeting and it was just cringey.
The way he said “I’m not gunna. I’m not gunna.” Was PRICELESS! 😂
If it was done by someone who wasn’t that funny it would’ve been different though
1:58 “No one’s going to say any variation of that, ever!”
Meanwhile: “Hmm…it’s no use *PREVARICATING* about the bush”

Reminds me of the scenes in Archer when he's trying to communicate with a Polynesian tribe through a translator who doesn't know how to properly convert idioms to the local dialect, and Archer proceeds to give a motivational speech made entirely of idioms.
My favorite figure of speech is the truly elegant "So he did a backflip, snapped the bad guy's neck and saved the day!"
This actually describes an active act to gain a promotion.
No no, that one can only be used to describe the the real situation :P
Or beating someone half to death, which would be impossible to determine unless you beat him the exact same amount twice and he died immediately after.
I wear that shirt when I play disc golf tournaments. It's a kick in the pants when I tell someone "Nice shot" and they reply "It was super easy. Barely an inconvenience."
idioms have now entered the Ryanverse
How does this only have 2 likes

Wow very few likes for a pretty famous youtuber
English is my native language, I'm 30 years old, and I heard "mountain out of a molehill" for the first time a week ago. I could tell what they meant, but I thought it was some weird idiom they just made up. Very strange of that person to say. Now I learn it's one of the common ones.
A young friend just heard "off like a herd of turtles" last week. Then I dropped "Well, I'm off in a cloud of heifer dust. See y'all later." He's 25 and thinks we just made them up.
I wonder what’s wrong with making them?
All of them were made up by someone at some point for the first time.
Go watch “At the Car Wash” from Phineas and Ferb. There’s a whole plot line with Doofenshmirtz centered around that phrase. It’s pretty funny. 😂
The ad's even better than it usually is 😂
"I uses my ears to listen to stuff all the time but sometimes I want to use them to listen to stuff that only I can hear"
Amazing work, Ryan ❤
"Your ears will thank you, although no they won't cause your mouth is on the other side of your head entirely"
He really made a video on sarcasm AND figures of speech. Ryan has it all at the top of his game!
U haven’t even watched it shut up 💀💀💀
What game would that be and why is Ryan standing on it?
That seems really dangerous, because he is not wearing *any* safety gear, and falls are the fourth-leading cause of accidental death in the United States.
"im not gonna! im not gonna!" lmao
Which game is he on top of and what does he have?
The way Nathaniel said "I'm not gonna" kicked my paternal instincts into gear. We must protect this special boy.
Nathaniel's blank stare at 1:16 gets me
He's just WAITING for his next opportunity lol
The whole thing was hilarious, but that final "GET OUT" was the perfect ending.😂 Ryan, you are a comedy genius
Get out of here. 😂
Is it possible that after all these years Ryan is actually getting funnier? 😂😂😂
It’s actually not fair how funny he is
not only possible, but barely an inconvenience
Yes it is
The Adstronaut is genuinely such a good character, I always watch the entire ad because it's so entertaining
He's probably the most underrated character on the Ryanverse
I discovered this channel this morning and I'm bingeing them all! This one cracked me up

No no no, hear me out! The Beatles even wrote a song about a guy hitting people on the head with a hammer. It’s apparently an older phrase, way way way back in the 1960s! It’s coming back around again!
@@timopper5488 ahhh, hitting people on the head with a hammer! that I can get behind, but what does that have to do with bushes?
You’ll have to ask the OP about that to be certain. Personally, I just figured that you hide out in a bush, then when someone comes walking along the sidewalk, you stick your hammerin’ arm out between the branches and start wailing away on their heads. And THAT’S how The Beatles came up with the Blue Meanies! Because if you’re feeling blue, all you have to do is be a meanie with your hammer from a bush, and all will be well again.
I enjoy Nathanial's way of speaking. Seems a little different than his usual personalities.
Whos nathanial?

Nathaniel is such a good character. This sketch is something special. Like everything Ryan George does is gold but man this one is so funny time and time again

I love that we finally get a name for one of these guys, and it's Nathaniel. Don't know why that "tickles me" so much

As someone with Autism, the highly literal characters in Ryan's bits are... Perfect
Same here. I better understand people who are a bit more literal.
Yeah, same. I love Ryan's characters, with that being one of the main reasons, another being just how well they rephrase things to make them sound honestly better than common English, imo, for example "alive person". Hi there, hello is also a common greeting of mine now, I don't think most people even know where it's from, but I still use it
First Day as a Sports Coach is another fun one for overly literal interpretations.
Literally perfect? High praise...

The time and talent Ryan puts in these skits is well worth the wait. He gets a big laugh out of me every time 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
He really knocked this one out of the park.
I like how the other dudes can't deal with all these expressions.......And not just because one of them ate a ton of Party Balloons 🎈😅
Yeah I like how that’s part of this randomly and he’s experiencing issues from it the whole time 😂
I was hoping they would start using the expressions involuntarily by the end of the sketch, and then be really disgusted with themselves for it.
Could have a recurring thing where the people who hate the ideas start to do them and hate themselves.
Still waiting on The First Guy to ever be a Therapist
“Hi there hello. I spent several years learning about how brains work and if you pay me money…then I’ll tell you how your works. But not like the biological stuff, like the psychological stuff. Like trauma. You pay me money, and I’ll tell you about the things that are wrong that you can’t fix. And if it’s bad enough, you can pay me more money and I’ll give you drugs so you feel better. Just tell me your trauma, and I’ll give you drugs. But for lots of money though, like so much money. But we can only talk for 50 minutes at a time. Just 50 minutes. So, you in?”
“Yeah, sure.”

This is by far your best one - I cannot stop watching it.
1 of the few channels that consistently makes me laugh. Needed too. Thanks.
i always loved mashing them together. my personal favorite is , "i so bored, i could eat a horse!"
i love the visual of eating an entire horse purely out of boredom and every once in a while someone responds with a look of horror as if i had just done it in front of them. good times.
I love that so much!
My son came up with a winner when he was a little boy. "It's like pulling teeth from a baby." We just looked at him.....and then busted a gut. Damn, there's another one.
My favourite one is “we’ll burn that bridge when we come to it”
I still love "make like a tree and get outta here".
that shit took me out!!!
The way he envisioned the relationship of the characters to each other did not match my own. I feel like a fish out of water!
I'm sorry! But it'll all come out in the wash.
…will the fish come out in the wash? I’m so confused
Fish are known to be allergic to air I decided. So it would probably actually be pretty good it you just flopped back into the water so you don't catch a cold. I often accidentally catch various objects when my allergies are kicking in
All of your content is amazing, but I really couldn't stop laughing on this one. One of the best yet. I loved it so much! Keep being you Ryan. I'm sure that will be super easy, barley and inconvenience.
Do you HAVE any cookies???
I love how angry balloon guy got when there wouldn’t be cookies 😂
Jajaja the struggle at 0:40 to explain it reminded me that meme "Have you ever had a dream like this?"
When I studied English I did my thesis on figurative language. This is gold.
What are you talking about?
This isn't gold, it's a comedy sketch.
0:26 I’m eating a cookie right now.
Me to
That’s just the way the cookie crumbles
I love the Ryan verse because nobody is toxic about it and it is just generally the best.
I am pretty proud, that I understand all lines. My first language is different, so our figures of speech are different. Like I am hungry as wolf, golden eyes and with cross on funeral. It was really funny and enlighting about weird parts of our communication.
Don't forget the legendary don't walk around the hot mash.👏
It never occurred to me how dirty 'BEATING AROUND THE BUSH' sounded😂😂
Hmmm... Has he made a sketch along the lines of "first person to use euphemisms" yet? If not, it seems surprising that the Ryanverse would already have thought of something like referring so someone's pubes as a "bush" to be able to make that connection with "beating around the bush" in the first place... But then again, there is the creepy guy in the meetings to decide names for things.
Come to think of it, what is the origin of that phrase anyway? I'm sure they must have had actual bushes in mind when choosing that word. (looks it up) Hunting. In medieval times hunters would hire helpers to flush out any animals that might have been hiding in the bushes. They would make noise nearby to try to scare the creatures out (but not too close, in case something dangerous came out and attacked them).
This is your best work till date Ryan, keep em coming!
I love how Ryan can point out the weirdness and absurdity of seemingly ordinary things and now I realise that figures of speech are really absurd. Also, I think that "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" should be replaced with "I'm so hungry I could eat an elephant with all the bones" for extra weirdness and exaduration.
Speaking of elephants, I’ve always found this one weird:
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
*I literally picture some dude with a fork taking bites out of pieces of a whole elephant*
Don't worry Nathaniel! Those guys just have a bee in their bonnet. They should really take a chill pill.
