Irma Thomas is the real Queen of New Orleans. I fortunately live close to New Orleans and have been a huge follower of her since 1965. Ry Cooder is phenomenal. Those two together are amazing! Check out Irma and Bonnie Raitt sing at the Hardrock New Orleans New Year's Eve show. Was there. So much talent.
Every time I was in NOLA I'd go to the Lion's Den!!! (and the Maple Leaf) Great music....haven't been back since just before Katrina... anyone know if they're still there???? Mid-city Rock & Bowl was also great...I rolled gutter balls but loved the music!
Not sure about the Lions Den, but the Maple Leaf is still there and Rock and Bowl relocated to right behind Ye Old College Inn. John Blancher also opened a Rock and Bowl in Lafayette.
Irma she put a spell on me, when I listen to this blues. And Irma has a reason to sing the tune because she lost her own home when Kathrina visited New Orleans in 2005.
IRMA DOES BACK WATER, WITH THAT NEW ORLEANS BAYOU FLARE, ONLY THING MISSING THE THOSE NEVILLE BROS, I CAN SEE FATS DOMINO SMILING FROM ABOVE, THIS IS THE BEST OF NEW ORLEANS OR SHOULD I SAY NAWLEANS
Doug Duffey Irma’s version is the real blues. She lived in New Orleans when Katrina invaded the town, and when Irma sings it gives you goosebumps. Try also to hear her together with Marcia Ball - they’re soulsisters.
Buckwheat and Ry serving justice for Miss Thomas powerful, soul stirring voice.
