    I think location is the most overlooked competitive edge in trucking. I completely lucked out in that regard. Im in Louisville Ky. 2 hours from Nashville, Cincinnati and Indianapolis. 4 hours from Chicago and st Louis. Good content definitely something people need to research before running spot market. Got to learn the lanes or it will cost you coming out.

      Absolutely! I’m a new driver stuck with zero opportunity because of where I live. The carriers who offer training for new drivers require that I change my residence. My island/province requires proof of residence during covid closures to access the island. My daughter lives here so I’m not changing my residence anytime soon. I’m looking for otr opportunities so I don’t get why my residence matters anyways. I’m guessing Canadian insurance requirements have tightened up because of the fatalities

    That heat map is super cool and a super useful tool! Sad to see the flatbed market in Ontario Canada so cool, I’ve been planning on getting my own Ontario only running authority (which is how I stumbled across your videos!) but with a looming recession and everyone and their grandmothers dog getting flatbeds around here, I may be holding off a little bit just to see how things settle out.

    I am a Dispatcher in Virginia and I couldn't even get 1 driver out of Chicago Illinois. 2 dispatchers also helped and each load we would find that one second that was posted it was gone ! This is getting very frustrating 😒

    All Relatable, I just dispatched our truck to Oregon for the 2nd time. We got lucky the first time with a decent load out, I did notice the rates were low but thought it was just a bad day. This second time up by Portland... The rates were straight out disrespectful. I agree, I plan on keeping them away from those states you mentioned and keeping them in the east coast and the south if I can help it. Ive heard mixed reviews on Florida but your video and another I just watched showed on load-boards that they actually have decent stuff over there. We'll see how this next week goes!

      Rates out of Portland OR/Seattle, WA area have always been crap. Sometimes you get lucky but even still typically below market. Beautiful place to live though.

    I'm always curious to really find out the breaking point.
    How low per mile can I run before I go broke. I know every case is different from one another... in my case my operating cost per mile is 2.68 if I'm right.
    But I've been doing some 2.40, 2.30 loads and it's getting scary

    • @TruckingMadeSuccessful
      @TruckingMadeSuccessful  Před 2 lety +1

      Reefers have higher rates, but are also more expensive to get and maintain. They also are noisy and take long to load and unload so many drivers wont want to work a reefer. Dry van is cheaper, more freight, rates are a bit lower but usually quick loading and unloading :)

    So if drivers just said no we aren’t driving for a week then what does the brokers do.

    • @TruckingMadeSuccessful
      @TruckingMadeSuccessful  Před 2 lety +1

      Then brokers would freak out and increase rates. But the problem is that the rejection rates for load prices fell astronomically because carriers are afraid that if they say no to a bad rate, they will get stuck.
