Killmonger Theme | Black Panther

There’s been a lot of Oscar’s buzz surrounding Black Panther lately. And although I don’t think it should be nominated for best picture, I absolutely think Ludwig Göransson should be nominated for best original score, along with costume design and production design. (Looks like all my predictions came true!
UPDATE - Black Panther won 3 Oscars; best original score, best production design, best costume design!
This is a score unlike anything heard in any other film, let alone comic book film. This is yet another fantastic example of why the myth that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s music is bad is ridiculous.
Ludwig Göransson put in so much effort to make sure this score was authentically African, even travelling to Africa and learning about their traditional music. He incorporated African trad music into the entire score. He blended heroic brass with traditional African chants for T’Challa, and brilliantly mixed maniacal shrieking of the word “Killmonger” with traditional African music and then layered in Afro-American beats... Genius. This fits Killmonger’s character so well given he is a Wakandan raised in the suburbs of Oakland.
