Very interesting! What advances in technology would be needed to make these guys fully autonomous? Is it to do with gyros and visual sensors, or just a matter of CPU power and (multi) processing speed? Well done on the win, by the way!
The technology is there. Its only a matter of interest and money. An autonomous bot would require LIDAR, cameras and millions of lines of code, making it prohibitively expensive for hobbyists
@@Di-Ferr You don't have to go as far as needing a Lidar lol.. Cameras and sensors would do just fine.
@@RhazOfRheos They would do just fine, albeit slower. 3D data from a LIDAR system is far easier, and therefore quicker, to process. Also, without it the robot can forget about navigating anything other than a flat surface

Not sure that would help. You need the robot to slide on the surface. Watch how it turns and moves sideways.
@@MichaelOverstreet well, just the right amount of friction could help. But then the motors that control the feet would have to output more power to overcome frictional forces. I would assume relative to how fast you want the thing to go. So I think it's just easier to make it this way
