i'm a Tonfas user so what i've done for the past 2 days of being stuck in this boss right is heavy strong attack spam until his ki breaks but it hasnt worked yet lmfao... never would've thought this was a low stance type of fight, thanks for the info, really helped!
Took me around 4-5 hours to beat this swine last night lol, lots of swearing and getting myself in trouble with the neighbours 🙈🙈 Poison really helped and luckily had recently found a katana imbued with poison. Also found medium armour worked better as made dodgy his bullshit grab move MUCH easier! Was in bit of a haze when saw life bar was quite low so then slammed him with my Yokai form attack! 😂😂
@Daniel Shirley I am having trouble as well. Not that he is too hard, it's just that I don't deal enough damage, get cocky and do to many slashes, and then I am out of ki. Once I've died a bunch of times, I totally lose my patience and just go ape-shit crazy. I didn't know you could block those rush attacks. I will try that tonight.
@@ryankirk9916 Yes, I did. Once I realized you could break his tusks, it was a whole different fight. But instead of blocking his first charge, I battered him with a strong strike. If I timed it perfectly, I broke one of his tusks and did a great deal of both damage to his health and his ki. It was the damn charging of his that eventullly wore me down. I wonder if there are other kind of tricks with other bosses. And to @Devin Isaiah: I can't get salt to work. Is it a joke item? :p
His charge attack, when he just keeps running back and forth across the area, is total BS. That’s all he kept doing to me in Yokai realm. He also got even more aggressive when nearly dead. Hardest boss up to this point for me. Took me well over 2 hours to beat him, using all sorts of things. Sloth, Barrier, Gallnut Broth to add poison, Soul Core attacks and Yokai Shift. Even then it was a close run thing. Talking of Sloth, is it just me or has it been nerfed in Nioh 2? To me it seems to not last as long and slow down the enemies as much.
I think they made him harder since this video, or at least it seems that way. Your tip about the horns was a huge help to my finally getting him but in my fights he literally spammed those lunge slams or whatever its called, going from wall to wall instead of a single lunge. Odachi wasnt working so I mainly used fists from DLCs. Anyways great job man thanks for the help.
Fists from DLC? I agree that this boss is now harder than what is being shown here. It is ridiculously OP, whenever he does his white aura charge attack he always does another strong attack like right after. I am stuck on this boss and I'm on the verge of putting this game away for good as the difficulty and repetitiveness is getting out of hand, annoying, and boring. Edit: I almost forgot to mention that most of the people who upload videos like this "how to beat.." are on NG+ with OP weapons, they are not showing how to defeat him on first playthrough.
You can beat him with the Odachi(that's the weapon I used) but you have to be way more conservative with your attacks when he opens up after a move. I was actually using high stance attacks which is also riskier but takes way more off his health on a single hit. I would counter mostly just one strike, but would squeeze in 2 high stance odachi hits after dodging his grab and facing his back. Benefit of this weapon is that you don't have to get too close to him, which prevents you from suddently being surprised by a grab attack
That breaking the horns tip is key to this!! With a sword, it's normal attack, mid stance and strong attack, high stance. I hate that his hp is huge. Took me like 10 minutes
What's your build on dual swords, cuz i put the most point in skill and heart at lv70 but can't reach that low stance damage yet. And what combo you use to break enemy's ki that fast, i found only kick and slow slice combo tho. Ăn, thank you very much for showing me how to break his tusk
I also just put points into Heart & Skill. I think the high dmg you see me do is cost by the *Minds Eye* passive skill. Minds Eye (Attack Boost) activates when you dodge through an attack (I'm not sure how perfect the dodge's gotta be).
If you use dual swords, there's a great counter for this guy. A safe way of using Windstorm to break his horns: When he charges at you with his horns, just hold the block button and right after his horns come into contact with your block, and before his does the follow-up axe attack, press Triangle while still holding the block button to activate Windstorm. Trust me, the timing is much easier than it sounds; way easier to time than any burst counter, at the very least. It works 90% of the time, but can only break one horn in my experience, so you have to bait his charge twice, *but don't do this in the dark realm because he pulls his axes out when he charges, which still damage you*
Your fight doesn't show his secondary yokai realm charge. My guy liked using the secondary charge then going right into his grab. It got me so many times.
You just had to Loki flex and not use any elixir even tho you were almost out lol. Great video bro, I gotta start blocking a little more, he rushes at me and it’s my instinct to dodge but his range of damage is so wide that he gets you anyway on some attacks
I remember using heals in one of the guide and someone said "This strategy sucks cuz you healed x amount of times". So I try my best to not heal during boss guides now 🤣
I don’t remember blocking his charge and not being staggered by it. All I know is that this boss was cheap as hell with his charge spamming and so had to be cheap back at him. Maybe it was because I was super underleveled and under-geared and almost everything he did 1-2 shotted me. Very tedious, not fun for me lol.
Poison deals ALOT of damage to him. Just watched you here, 1 or 2 poison shurikens in ninjutsu build, lasts ALOT time and will take him down 25% of his total health from just 2 poison shurikens, reapply when over. Even as ninjutsu build i will definately equip dual blades. Reason: Dual blades have the strongest block of all weapons and any other weapon you can get into Ki problems unless you have a ton of heart and maybe sword build. As a ninjutsu build vs this boss my ki pool is limited but dual blades keep the blocks up well. You should definately apply poison on your weapons vs him, first right ninjutsu item, if you dont have poison shurikens but just apply poison on your blades and they will melt him.
Thank you for the advice of using the dual blades. I was trying to block with the kusarigama and was getting mauled by his grapple. Beat him second time I tried with them
This just goes to show how some bosses are hard for some people and easy for others. Shibata was easy for me, but then again I guess my spec was just his counter. I was using Dual Katanas with Poison and A light gear so I almost beat him on the first try

In this case, Shibata is weak to poison and the best way to apply damage over time or debuffs is using dual wielding: katanas, hatchets, tonfas. But the katanas are the fastest. Also, I'm not sure who's saying dual katanas are not good in the 2nd game, they can dish out big damage especially if you use Mind's Eye in Low Stance. You get an Attack Power buff when you dodge at the last second. With practice you can keep that buff up almost all the time and it kinda doubles your damage

3y later, no clue if you will answer, but how are you destroying his Ki so much/fast?! I hit him hundreds of times with an Odachi yet i dont do as much Ki damage as you. What am i doing wrong?
His charge breaks my stamina, can’t block it. Is it because my stamina is only 15…oh, a burst counter with a brute guardian will break the charge also.
I could only beat him when I could break his tusks. However you cannot do this with every weapon. I used Tonfa. I could not break his tusks with spear or Odachi (too slow after blocking).

What is your build? As of right now, June 23, 2021 this boss is extremely hard, it's even harder than what most of these old videos show. He spam chargers and when he does his white aura charging attack he does a move right after which deals you a lot of damage, sometimes instant death. The previous bosses were difficult but this one is the ultimate f*ckery of f*cks.

Plus the way Elixirs and the Kodama Bazaar work in this game makes this even worse because you either have to end up fighting him with 3 Elixirs or you'll have to farm more. Instead I just end up booting Persona 5 Royal haha
Ryan Kirk, I feel your pain. I as well have completed every souls-bourne game (included Demon's Souls, which a lot of people don't count). Some of these bosses have taken me too long (for my own liking) to end! In Souls-Bourne-games, the boss-fights often feel like a dance. I know that sounds "gay", but you learn the rhytm and the flow of the fights. But some of these boss-fights have offset rhytmes, extra long of too fast animations and often, you get no warning/wind-up for attacks. Sometimes it feels unfair, but I learn to evade every attack. But I am also having trouble with this guy. Charging sob...

Wait until you fight him again in Living Spirits side mission. Way harder than the first time. He is way more powerful and the room is much smaller so avoiding his bulldozing attacks is really friggen hard and he spams the ground with puddles of fire. Ive been stuck on him for 2 days in this mission and I jusy wont give up. Don't even bother bringing a blue grave because they will die in less than 15 seconds and you will be solo against an even more beefed up version. His health pool is insane too with or without. I swear he has the nost health i've ever seen in a boss fight. Driving me NUTS!! I beat him on my 3rd or 4th try in the main story mission but this is a whole other level and the snall room doesnt help.
I block his charge at the beginning. Try the get an attack in before his double axes go up. Never works. It takes around 6 to 7 hits. If I even get that far. He normally doesn't give me much time to heal. After tanking some hits my ki is either depleted or near. Like one dash, I'm out. Try to heal. Then I'm dead. About to brake my controller.
It's the roundhouse kick move that Dual Swords have. It does a lot of stamina damage towards enemies. I think other weapons should have it too, but I'm not 100% sure since I only play Dual Swords.
As has been mentioned, one of the worst, poorly created bosses in all of the souls games. What ended up helping me was Power pills and as Daniel Larson suggested below, dual blades.
Why because he was challenging? He was a fun fight, he does combos and has a large moveset to so it makes him hard to read. Souls games bosses tend to all be the same, slow and clunky with big openings.
@@nanashiryuu5630 Challenging is great! The last boss of Sekiro was a nightmare and it too me 50+ tries to beat it but he never spammed attacks. This one just felt like that. Every game like this has a couple of bosses that at least partially fall into that. To me, this guy was the only one so far that felt that way.
@@Foxycourderoy yeah that's fair, I guess everyone has their preferred boss type. To me the snake was most annoying. Disjointed hit boxes, aoe-melee attacks, super fast frames, and add summoning. That's a shitty boss. This guy just charges and gets predictable, less things to deal with simple dodging.
His tusk does NOT break when blocking. Must have tried this bullshit 100 times, at level 97, I’m close to rage-fleeting this bullshit. I platinumed Nioh 1. Fucking worst game design I’ve ever seen
I cheesed half the bosses in Dark souls with pyromancy. Long range kinda OP outside of a few bosses in these kind of games why its intentionally limited. Took me about an hour to learn the his moveset on my 1st playthrough and to beat him with fists not using any yokai powers or ranged weapons. On subsequent dark souls playthroughs where i went melee only. A lot of the bosses felt much harder..
Ugh, this guy SUCKS. Easily the most annoying boss. I use magic + light armour and this fight wasn’t enjoyable at all, it’s just a chore. I beat him with poison, several protection talismans, yatsu-no-kami, a benevolent grave, and the most important thing - NOT DOING THIS AT THE RECOMMENDED LEVEL.

If there is a wall, there is always a way to get by it, the developers made sure of that. If you don't like the game, just say "it's too hard for me" and move on. This boss is broken. Took me 26 times to beat him. 10 is my record against the twins in Dark Souls 3.

@@xHolmesWalkthroughsx7 lol bro ive platinumed BB and beaten DS3 a few times but as soon as I ran into Maneater in Demons Souls i just said I cant do this ish anymore lol.
Wait until you fight him again in Living Spirits side mission. Way harder than the first time. He is way more powerful and the room is much smaller so avoiding his bulldozing attacks is really friggen hard and he spams the ground with puddles of fire. Ive been stuck on him for 2 days in this mission and I jusy wont give up. Don't even bother bringing a blue grave because they will die in less than 15 seconds and you will be solo against an even more beefed up version. His health pool is insane too with or without. I swear he has the nost health i've ever seen in a boss fight. Driving me NUTS!! I beat him on my 3rd or 4th try in the main story mission but this is a whole other level and the snall room doesnt help.

What weapon & stance are you using?
Axe and high.
I block his charge at the beginning. Try the get an attack in before his double axes go up. Never works. It takes around 6 to 7 hits. If I even get that far. He normally doesn't give me much time to heal. After tanking some hits my ki is either depleted or near. Like one dash, I'm out. Try to heal. Then I'm dead. About to brake my controller.

I don't know how you break his stamina so fast.
It's the roundhouse kick move that Dual Swords have. It does a lot of stamina damage towards enemies. I think other weapons should have it too, but I'm not 100% sure since I only play Dual Swords.
As has been mentioned, one of the worst, poorly created bosses in all of the souls games. What ended up helping me was Power pills and as Daniel Larson suggested below, dual blades.
Why because he was challenging? He was a fun fight, he does combos and has a large moveset to so it makes him hard to read. Souls games bosses tend to all be the same, slow and clunky with big openings.
I agree, Nioh has tons of well- executed boss fights but this one just felt... cheap
@@nanashiryuu5630 Challenging is great! The last boss of Sekiro was a nightmare and it too me 50+ tries to beat it but he never spammed attacks. This one just felt like that. Every game like this has a couple of bosses that at least partially fall into that. To me, this guy was the only one so far that felt that way.
@@Foxycourderoy yeah that's fair, I guess everyone has their preferred boss type. To me the snake was most annoying. Disjointed hit boxes, aoe-melee attacks, super fast frames, and add summoning. That's a shitty boss. This guy just charges and gets predictable, less things to deal with simple dodging.
His tusk does NOT break when blocking. Must have tried this bullshit 100 times, at level 97, I’m close to rage-fleeting this bullshit. I platinumed Nioh 1. Fucking worst game design I’ve ever seen

is it just me who finds this boss easy? i win 2nd try, using long range weapons and ninjutsu and omnyo magic long range. never even use melee
I cheesed half the bosses in Dark souls with pyromancy. Long range kinda OP outside of a few bosses in these kind of games why its intentionally limited. Took me about an hour to learn the his moveset on my 1st playthrough and to beat him with fists not using any yokai powers or ranged weapons.
On subsequent dark souls playthroughs where i went melee only. A lot of the bosses felt much harder..
Ugh, this guy SUCKS. Easily the most annoying boss. I use magic + light armour and this fight wasn’t enjoyable at all, it’s just a chore. I beat him with poison, several protection talismans, yatsu-no-kami, a benevolent grave, and the most important thing - NOT DOING THIS AT THE RECOMMENDED LEVEL.
This whole game is an example of poor game design.

@@Massacretalitor You just wrote an essay about it, who is getting defensive? Ive never once felt like I'm catapulting myself into a brick wall 30 times. The game has been a joy from the beginning. If there is a wall, there is always a way to get by it, the developers made sure of that. If you don't like the game, just say "it's too hard for me" and move on. You sound silly trying to justify your lack of skill and strategy. The game is fantastic.
@Talitor Chill dude, you gotta remember that this type of game is just like any other souls game, known very well for putting this kind of challenge for its players, they are hard and yet loved by many, I played it, went through all the bullshit you are saying, and at the end, I genuinely enjoyed it a lot, to me it’s a matter of having patience, I feel like most of the times if you are complaining so much about it then it’s just not the game for you. Also, I’m not “getting too defensive “ my guy, I said that in a joking way, like shit look at the giant paragraph you wrote because I disagreed with someone saying “game bad cuz game hard”

Damn I was just blazing through this game till I hit this roadblock bs of a fight the only boss I didn’t beat by the third try and the only one I had to look up tips for 😂😂
