- All aboard the CalMac Ferries mv Loch Seaforth on a cold and sleety April day in 2017. The journey to Ullapool, checking in, boarding, and the voyage on a breezy day. The Loch Seaforth is one of Caledonian MacBrayne's newest ferries and plies the route to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

There is something about being in a ferry heading for an Island. :)
Oh what an exciting trip! That blowing sea, those beautiful little houses...Dougal! Thanks for posting, Andrew. I enjoyed this, as I do all your videos. Thumbs up!
+Doro Thank you Doro, glad you're enjoying these :)
We sailed from Lewis to Uig in a stormy sea and stood as near to the front as possible on deck along with a young man from Coldstream who resembled my son so much I nearly fainted 😁. Exciting crossing!.
Wow, took the same crossing a few days before you, my first time. Sea was much calmer than you seem to have had. Great idea to have a video blog of it. Thanks for uploading it.
Cheers Craig!
Fantastic Vlog/blog Andrew, as usual 🏍😀. I know these roads so well and can close my eyes and imagine being in Ullapool - Stornoway, thank you so much for filming the journey. The only downside is how homesick I am 😥 - hopefully next year my husband and I will be there next year for a couple of weeks(month, hehe) to see my family. Precious time, it’s been four yr since I have seen them, but I’m getting so excited all ready,xXx 🤗
So breath taking scenery x lovely trip thank you as love watching them
+Gail Cooper Thanks Gail! See you soon x
Happy to have tuned in. Wish it was longer :)
Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you for that. I might go on that boat one day. ilona
Needed a "dose of Ditton"! Thank goodness there was one available. Love your videos of the land of my forefathers which I don't know at all.
Thank you Lindsay, thats jolly decent of you to say so. I have LOADS of footage to edit now, and as my exams are over I'm aiming for twice a week again so you'll be getting a double dose! All the best.
I’ve been on this crossing many times through work. Good we journey.
Best thing - The Steak pie for lunch on the boat 😌
It would seem others agree - worlds worst thing to say but the steak pie is better than my mothers 🤫
Argh Andrew I have been watching your vids for some time now, love your lifestyle and drooled when you drove into Ullapool. My wife and I did a coach trip around the UK in 2010 and we visited Ullapool and had lunch in the pub on the corner, brings back great memories. Thoroughly enjoy the videos and being of Scottish blood love Scotland.
+peejay664 Ahh, glad it helped rekindle some happy memories for you. Thanks for your message.
Is my favourite ferry and I when on it last year
been on that faaaaaaar too many times
Another great video Andrew 👍
+Jack Mcleod Cheers Jack!
Thank you, this was helpful!
Very helpful, thank you.
The Loch Seaforth is my second favourite Cal Mac ferry after MV Finlaggan.
+Misty Doggy She went right up in my estimation for the way she handled those rough seas!
If I lived in Stornoway or Ullapool I'd travel back and forth all the time for a 'mini-cruise'. I love these ferries.
You and me both Janice!
Just a few more days and we'll be catching the CalMac to Lochmaddy. I can't tell you how much we are looking forward to getting up there. Especially my grand daughters. This will be their first trip to the Hebrides.
+dalemews1 First if many I hope! Have a great time.
that is pretty cool to see. we don't have these in the US
Yes been on that time or two with motoerhome love it big time one thing it's nice over there big time Andrew .
Great vídeo "Buen Viaje"
+Pedro Camargo Cimas Gracias!
Great video Andrew. A much used ferry route for me too. It wasn't so very long ago that Calmac had a proper inside office at the Ullapool terminal instead of the outside man, and the Stornoway terminal had a proper cafe (proper= you could get chips with something) instead of just help yourself to a tea bag and hot water. Cost savings I suppose.. the author Derek Cooper relates how in the Scottish ferries of yore you would get heavy cutlery and damask tablecloths with waiter service . On the plus side the Road Equivalent Tariff brought prices down significantly, but they're creeping up again. All that aside I never fail to feel a definite lift of spirits when the ferry takes off for the open sea. Off to Ardroil, Uig last week of June for me.Can't wait...
+greenswathe9 Cheers for that. I agree, we have to offset the affordability of RET with cost savings along the way. I still reckon that there could be a viable argument for cabins and night sailings from Oban to Barra and Lochboisdale though. That'd be a great way to travel!
Gosh, that crossing almost made me sea sick!
Should have taken Sealegs before watching!
I really enjoyed this. Was that snow at the beginning? And what are they thinking with that incredibly poor signage for the ferry? Bet that's caused a lot of anger for many motorists. Cheers.
+Julie Mix Yup, that was a blizzard near Inverness. We had all 4 seasons in a day that day!
Did I dream seeing Seaforth in Pt Ellen a couple of weeks ago?
Don't know Bob - but we ARE in winter refit season, so they do pop up in all kinds of random places!
Love the video, but miss the connection from Andrew's voice-over.
Cheers Stephen, and thanks for the honest feedback. I do try and 'mix and match' the styles so people don't get bored of the same format, but if more folks want me waffling away, I'll gladly waffle! There is lots of talking in the next one so don't despair ;) All the best.
Andrew, your vlog provides two joys - your great videos (as Gail Cooper said) of 'breath taking scenery'; and access to your thoughts, feelings, responses and connection with it. Some of us have a connection with Scotland and the Isles - but all of us enjoy the connection with you. What you jokingly call 'waffle' for us is definitely a joy, and one that we value. But you are right. Your 'silent movies' make the moment you burst onto the scene so much more anticipated and fascinating.
Hi my Scottish friends. How time from Ullapool to Stornoway? Thanks.
