    Really impressive how, after three mistakes (two doubled jumps and one fall), he pulled off three triples in about five seconds toward the end of the program! I look forward to seeing what he is able to do with the components as he fully matures.

    I deeply like his performance, he is better and better expressing out music for audience. His jumps are a higher and longer than anyone else. Breathtaking. It is with his quads including axel very demanding program. He needs a little more time of work on this a new program and physical condition. He has huge potential. Congratulations!!!

    I disagree with the poster who says Ilia needs to "do better". The drama and coherence to your programs has gone up exponentially in this last year. Quad axel is AMAZING and Ilia has the best other "quads" in the world now -- greatest height and speed of rotation. Now that his programs are becoming things of high drama and artistic integrity, he will be hard to stop at worlds. Shoma Uno knows this -- he has said he needs "the skate of his life" to defeat Ilia. We're on for quite a show at world's !!! 🎉🎉🎉

    Brilliant. His execution, musicality, lines, drilled to the point of comfort with the choreography to this extent? This is a professional on the rise. And an absolute pleasure to watch, and that's a complement to his execution, coach, and choreographer -- the amount of times some teams get complacent with the run up to a jump? That they take it for the opportunity that it is to compel, keep, & build the audience's attention? Bravo
    Fumbles happen and they are what they are. It's delightfully difficult to nitpick anything else? hah

    Wow. There seems to be some shouting in the comments. Let's see, at 17 a kid gives you the world's first 4a, then quad combos, constantly changes the choreography of his FS programme from one performance to the next (to the same music) to improve his score (nobody else is doing this), wins by miles, is obviously tired here, maybe a little off form, on new skates as his old one's broke, and some of you are shouting massive vicious criticism because he wasn't his usual self. I know you may be disappointed but the kid isn't a machine. He's already pretty consistent but even Nathan had his fair share of off days - remember? What the hell has the sport come to?

    This young man is a phenomenal skater! I saw him skate last year on tv and he was very memorable I like that he tries to incorporate hip hop dancing into his program definitely shows his personality and for the person who said he has no artistry just because he is different than what you think he should be doesn’t make him less worthy of the greatness that he has demonstrated. He has significantly improved in just one year I can’t wait to see how far he goes from here . 🎉👏👏👏👏 Bravo!

    No hate on him but without his jumps, he wouldn't be considered as a top skater. It's been a year since I last saw his FS and he's basically the same: stiff body, poor footwork, etc. I don't know how long he needs to improve but at least at the moment, I believe he just wanna crush everyone with his Quads. Good for him but Figure Skating I know isn't only about the jumps.
    In the end, I feel no artistry and expressiveness from his performance, and dependence on his jumps to lift up the mood throughout the entire program. Everyone can do better, and also him, hope he can improve in next few years.
    IMO, artistry is the true feelings, true personality, true soul, maturity of the skater expresses via his/her performance, in order to do that, he should work on his moral, personality first. Grow up boy!

      It’s a stamina issue I think. He doesn’t have enough energy for the jumps towards the end less alone finishing the choreography. That’s why it looks mediocre and half done. I hope that he is just saving his energy here for the worlds because he really had no competition at national.

    • @L1623VP
      @L1623VP Před 3 měsíci +5

      @@gyufrtsgftrs436jjg Off day? He had no pressure or competition here and yet, he pops two jumps and falls on another. That's called a lack of concentration, not an off day. A 185 LP will not beat Uno at Worlds. Ilia didn't even top 300 in total score here. He's got work to do. While Kagiyama is still injured, Ilia needs to put himself way out in front, and that hasn't happened, yet.

    • @zigzaggyp746
      @zigzaggyp746 Před 3 měsíci +10

      @@L1623VP Please get a grip!
      Ilia has won every competition he has entered this season, save one he narrowly lost. Furthermore, he just came off arguably his best competition against Shoma Uno and the rest of the best in the world at the GPF,
      beating all of them handily! Yet, you freak out over a competition where he nearly won by 30pts. without any real competition? Athletes have peaks and valleys. This was for sure a valley, but better hear than at a Worlds.
      It's called perspective.

    • @L1623VP
      @L1623VP Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@zigzaggyp746 And you're counting your chickens before they've hatched. Ilia is not ready for Worlds. Although injured, the judges LOVE Kagiyama, and there is a LOT of sentimental support from the judges behind Uno. Ilia's skating skills are NOT where they should be, and he's not nearly as sophisticated or mature in his presentation as Nathan Chen was at this point in his career. By 19, Ilia's age now, Nathan had won two World titles. At Worlds, Ilia will not have the advantage of a 20-point lead after the SP against Kagiyama, Uno, and Adam Siao Him Fa, who he's already lost to once this season at Skate France. Adam had a bad GPF, but he was very good in all his other competitions. It would be foolish to write him off for Worlds. His record is the same as Ilia's this season with only one loss.
      This LP of Ilia's wasn't a "valley". It was a lack of concentration and/or stamina that needs addressed because Ilia will need every one of his technical points to compensate for the higher PCS Uno, Fa, and possibly Kagiyama are going to get. If he doesn't pull out in front now and next season as the favorite at the Olympics, he'll lose the momentum and open the door for one of those other skaters.

    He really needs to work on his basic skating skills and artistry. The butterfly at the end of his last spin is horrific no stretch no line I know doing the butterfly after the spin gives you an extra point on your GOE but when you do it so poorly, what’s the point I think he is very talented unfortunately every time I watch him, all I can think of is how cocky he acts and his poor comments towards the LGBTQ community as if it is their fault he has low component scores
