As a pastors kid, I've heard SO many renditions of this song... THIS is THEE best one I've heard and will listen to it over and over and over again! Dan Vasc has an amazing range, and puts a fantastic metal flare on every genre he tackles. He is also Christian and you can feel that in how he is singing the song, it's not just mere lyrics for him, it's life. If you listen to more of his songs, enjoy the ride!

Yes he is very straight forward about his beliefs!
While he can be very theatrical and can act well... you can see it in his eyes, he has numerous songs that he sings about his faith, but..it shows in his eyes you can feel it.

Harmonicas are also called "mouth harps" and "blues harps" or even just "harps". This is probably why the grandparents of the guy (sorry don't know your names) called harmonicas "harps".

I have been waiting so long for you guys to hear this amazing performance by Dan Vasc. Yes, he is a metal singer, but sings many genres from opera, to show tunes, to '80's rock and roll, and he sings them all divinely. Dan is a Christian and released this song last April on Good Friday. It has reached over 10 millions views since then and is still climbing. His O Holy Night from this past December is another shockingly great song. I would love for you to hear this one, too. Thanks for your reactions.

Dan's father gave him a harmonica (harp😉lol) when he was a young boy about 8 yrs old. He's been quite clear about his Christian faith, too. He said he first realized he wanted to pursue singing after hearing John Schlitt's voice in Petra's Jekyll & Hyde. A few yrs ago, Dan had the dream come true of singing one of their songs (Beyond Belief) with John Schlitt and John Lawry of Petra. You can tell he's loving every minute of it, too. They sounded great together. Dan does soooo many other songs, though. Folk, Opera, Rock, Metal, musicals like Phantom of the Opera & Beauty & the Beast, movie soundtracks, etc. Even his Christmas songs are fantastic... brace yourselves. Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful in Latin), Angels We Have Heard on High (in 4 languages), O Holy Night (O Holy Cow!), etc. Oh yeah, he also did the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah as a one man choir & that's phenomenal, as well. His covers of Bon Jovi Journey, Rhapsody of Fire, Dragonforce, Sabaton, Nightwish, and more are Dantastic. Dan also converted some songs from the Witcher games/series into metal versions that will bliw you away. If you pull up original versions & compare them, you'll be even more amazed. His metal version duet with Violet Orlandi of Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" gets me every time... better than the original imo. Be sure to catch his Star Spangled Banner homage to the U.S. for our July 4th a few yrs back & you just have to follow it with Dan's "Apology" video to get the full story.
You have so much treasure to discover with Daniel Vasconcelos (aka Dan Vasc). Enjoy every minute of your journey. He's beautiful inside and out.... and really funny, too.

Look up the story of John Newton the British Poet and why he wrote this...Dan sings this with Praise and Passion, this Hymn has waited 250 years for someone to recognise that it needs to be sung loud and proud, a celebration that finding Grace for the 1st time can give.. I am sure the Angels themselves are loud and proud in their praise. love from a very happy Christian in the UK..

Great reaction. Looks like this is your first reaction to Dan. He's a Brazilian metal singer who can (and does) actually sing everything from opera to heavy metal. You should really react to more of his stuff. If you want to hear a TRULY metal version of a classic song you should check out his version of "O Holy Night" which he released in December. There are other songs he just sings "straight" - like Phil Collins' "You'll Be in My Heart" and a couple of the songs from the stage play "Phantom of the Opera" - including the song by the same name and also "Music of the Night" More favorites: Disney's "I'll Make a Man Out of You," Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" and his covers of the songs from the Witcher series and game are incredible. Really there are too many favorites to list them all. Head down the Dan Vasc rabbit hole. He's also a Christian. You won't be disappointed. Join us / his fans "Vasc Nation"

I just saw you guys for the first time and so happy to watch your reaction to Dan Vasc's Amazing Grace. It was also the first video of his that I ever saw right after he released it last April. I was stunned by this one and have watched so many reactions to it as it is fun to see people's faces and remarks. It is astonishing that the girl reactor ( sorry, no name that I saw), used the word "Epic" because, that is one of Dan's words he uses as a sign-off catch phrase, in his chats he frequently does right after many of his videos. You will hear it if you react to more of his content. Also, my father was a professional harmonica player, so when Dan started playing one it was so emotional for me. I live down south now and have heard harmonicas called a "mouth harp" and a "mouth organ" by people every so often. I have read that Dan's father gave him his harmonica when he was 9 years old and it was his first musical instrument. I am SO looking forward to watching you react to more of Dan's fabulous videos. You truly cannot make a bad choice because Dan only produces musical magic! Enjoy this new journey with him ☺❣, and Welcome !!

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏BEAUTIFUL!!❤ The harmonica is often called a mouth harp. Of course I don’t know for sure, but since the bagpipes are often associated with this song, Dan may have used the harmonica to get the same effect.

I believe that is correct. There is a group (that if I name it, this comment will disappear, sadly) who sang this song a few years back (shortly before the 4th member of their quartet passed away), and the format of the song the way they did it, is pretty much identical (but sung as a quartet). The bagpipes that are used in that arrangement (in an ancient European church) are placed exactly where Dan uses the harmonica in his version. He, of course, also added his own metal effects.

Thank you, Marcus and Kristin (I think that's what you said at the beginning of this reaction--hope I spelled the names correctly). I have subbed and will be watching for your reactions (especially Dan Vasc reactions). I've checked down through the comments, and replied to a few of them. One is about the harmonica Dan uses in "Amazing Grace," that wasn't quite correct, and had it confused with another song that Dan did as a tribute to his father after he passed away in 2017. You might want to read through that reply, as it gives some facts that might interest you, otherwise, as well.
As I watched your surprise during this reaction (and I totally love how you ended up loving the song), I thought about one of the very first reactions I watched, very shortly after Dan posted it, on April 7, 2023. Now, you did NOT react the same way they did, but I think you'll be interested in what I wrote, regarding the journey Dan shared with us throughout his very special rendition of the song. I'm not saying that Dan had JUST taken that journey, because that's not so. He and his brother Davi (dah-vee') were raised in a Christian family, with their mom singing in the choir, and the boys in youth programs and making videos of some of that, as well. They have been Christians, basically all their lives.
Dan, though, is a performer, and he puts his ALL into every single song he sings--whether its original (and I wrote about that, just a bit, in the comment I mentioned just above) or a cover. There is ANOTHER original that Dan wrote along with Ricardo Confessori (Ricardo wrote the music and Dan wrote the lyrics) that you might like to hear, as well. It's only on the Confessori channel. Dan sings it with Ricardo and his band. It's called "Where the Eagles Fly."
Anyway...I thought you might like to read how Holy Spirit spoke to me about the journey that Dan's version of "Amazing Grace" so beautifully displays.
    - - - - - - - - - -
    - - - - - - - - - -
This is the comment I wrote to two CZcams Music Reactors, called "Gen-Xers React," after their very lifeless, lukewarm (at best) reaction to Dan Vasc Singing "Amazing Grace."
After they ended by sitting there looking at each other with no understanding at all on their faces, and then shrugged and left, I just had to "write them a book."
(They actually gave my comment a heart!)
    - - - - - - - - - -
The point, guys, is that this is the way the song was MEANT to be sung. I'm not saying that everyone has to be a metal singer to sing it effectively. What I AM saying, is that there's a story in the song (if you haven't checked that out, you should). The song was never meant to be sung at funerals, though of course if someone is being honored, who had lived a life walking strongly with the Lord, then, sure. If it was a favorite of the person who had passed away, then, sure. Otherwise, this song was meant to tell about LIFE in Christ. It was never meant to be mournful or sad. It was meant to be just as Dan has portrayed it--because he actually BELIEVES it that way.
I know that some of your few comments were being somewhat satirical--possibly sarcastic--in that what you said with a small grin here or there, was meant to convey the opposite of what you threw out there. For instance, your sentence (regarding the use of the harmonica), "It's practically a requirement for every metal band I've ever heard of!" Then you did go toward the bagpipes, which have often been used with the song, as a processional to a funeral, in most cases. I'm OK with some of that, but in this case, a lot of what you said came across as "snarky," or a "mockery."
Yes--you both agreed that Dan, "... can, well...yeah...sing." Dan can, indeed, SING! As in, "YES! WOW! This man has done his homework, and trained himself beautifully!"
For instance...let's start with the progression of the song itself, as you watch Dan's face and mannerisms (he's an accomplished operatic singer, by the way). Emotions are not strange to him, or to his vocal expressions.
At the beginning, you can hear (and see) a good-enough singer who does quite well...he obviously has a lovely, smooth, controlled voice. He sings that first part pretty much the same way any church soloist (not necessarily a celebrity) would sing it--maybe with a little more skill than you might have expected--since he billed himself as a "metal singer."
Yes--you did both agree that some metal singers can actually sing other styles in quite agreeable ways. Then you shrugged it off.
Did you happen to notice that during that first part, there was a bit of sadness displayed, and perhaps a bit of a "lost" look? Also, did you notice that he dropped his chin and sort of "hid himself" several times? Could those things, maybe, have been reflecting the lyrics themselves? When one first begins to see light shining through the darkness, there is generally more than one emotion that goes into play--especially if one has been living in darkness for quite some time. I'm not saying that Dan had been. What I'm saying, is that he was portraying that part, and doing a magnificent job of it. Note how his eyes begin to look around him (rather like a startled deer) as he proclaims that he once was lost. Also, he closes his eyes and opens them several times, as he just barely begins to proclaim and portray the differences one would be experiencing in the actual situation the lyrics are stating.
Then...beginning in the next section (and he chose only certain lyrics out of the seven-or-so available verses), by the way--on purpose), the symphony begins--very effectively. The life that comes through God's grace is beginning to flow, and doubt and fear are starting to creep away. Notice that Dan's eyes have become even more expressive, and his focus has gotten more strong with every word. He's beginning to (in the parlance of the song) express the differences that are happening within. Watch his face and his stance begin to strengthen as understanding comes more and more strongly--bringing sight--yet sight that is still seeing the world around him more than what's growing inside. The lyrics, though, are affirming the new reality within.
Then we have the upward flow of a key-change that takes more physical effort and discipline to express, but there's a tentative joyfulness in those higher tones. Dan's physical stance also is strengthened, and his whole presence takes on more of the victory that is yet to fully surface. The lyrics (and Dan's interpretation of them) begin to affirm themselves and to be actually believed by the person within. Dan's eyes begin to either look upward and out, or close in thought, as he (as the subject of the song) begins to get this all figured out.
As he reaches for the harmonica (which, by the way, he has played since he was given his first one at about age nine, by his very beloved father--who passed away several years back) there is actually a special significance that comes to the song. The lyrics are speaking of life-changing differences that happen when one begins to realize all that God (our Father) is offering. As he's just sung, "...and grace will lead me home," he begins to enact the part that the bagpipes play at so many funerals--a triumphal march into Heaven. In other words, "OK, Yes! I'm beginning to see! At least I know where I'll be going when I leave this world!" Notice that his eyes are still opening now and again to the world around him, though he is much more focused on the music and the lyrics, and is beginning to turn to the inward light of Holy Spirit more strongly.
As the "bagpipes" end, the lyrics have led up to a drastic change in the Dan who is portraying the subject of the lyrics (and who actually does live them out). OK! He's had enough wishy-washy-ness. The shoulders go back, the hair gets swung out of his face, and he sets himself to actually LIVE the rest of the lyrics he chose. He has a story to tell, and he's going to do so, and he wants everyone to hear it without a doubt in their minds that it is REAL.
Though you see his eyes open a couple of times in the entry to that event, by the time he proclaims that he's "bright shining, as the sun," now, from the inside out, his focus goes completely into spiritual sight, and it remains that way throughout the rest of the song. Note that there is still darkness around the outside of him. The light is within, and he sees it, in a most definite manner. As he begins to "preach" it, his eyes open one last time, briefly, to the world around him.
Then comes the dramatic key change that signifies even more strength and courage, and his stance becomes even more firm. As he proclaims to whoever will listen in the world, that he had definitely been in the running for one of the worst wretches among them--there's no doubt in that statement that he yells to all who will hear--his voice has become strong and sure enough to be heard by the crowds of witnesses around him, who are now focused on hearing his very strong testimony.
As he progresses into screaming out that he now SEEEEES, there are no more furtive eye movements seeking for answers in the world. What he is SEEING and UNDERSTANDING, is God Himself. YES!
So...OK, then...he calms, but just as strongly and firmly reiterates, "...was blind, but now...I see," spoken strongly, surely, adamantly, and beautifully. There can be no doubt. This man has found himself--in the Lord Jesus Christ. AHA!!!!!
By the way...did you happen to notice that the last inward breath he took during those final moments, started with the words, "I see?" He kept that air flow going for approximately 25 seconds from, "I..." until the last chin-produced vibrato of the word "Aha!" That, in itself, is totally awesome!!!
This is TOTAL VICTORY! Dan Vasc will have it no other way. EVER. PERIOD!

Wow!💕 I am so glad that you included this comment that was so thoughtfully and eloquently written from your heart. You describe the journey through this song as Dan sings it. Now THIS is a reaction. Interrupting this performance for so long with jokes and silly banter, was not only frustrating but was also disrespectful in my eyes. They simply didn’t get it. Yes, it ‘sounded pretty’ to them, but it wasn’t absorbed thoughtfully, the way it was meant to be, and the way I believe Dan intended, the way you describe it. Everything from Dan’s words, his inflections, emphasis on words, eye movements, arm movements, to the lighting, everything had meaning. There was nothing gratuitous. Everything from beginning to end was well thought out and intentional. Every eye movement, every well placed emphasis on words, everything. I realize this was a comment to a different couple, but I wish I could've written such an eloquent comment myself, to this couple, because in my opinion, this was just a 'pretty song' to them. I wish they, along with everyone that hears/sees this, would see what you and I see in it. Thank you for sharing your beautiful and thoughtful words.🙌✨💖

This is a great, sensitive, majestic, and beautiful rendition of this lovely song. It's definitely the best version I've ever heard, and even has the harmonica standing in for the traditional bagpipes. Sounds like 3 different guys, right? Dan is known as The Man with a Thousand Voices, and is the most versatile singer you will hear, with a gorgeous voice, incredible breath control, and fantastic range, with power and charisma to burn. He has extensive training in both classical and metal singing techniques, and both are on display here. He can sing anything from folk, to ballads, to 80s pop, to Christmas, to Broadway, to opera, and of course tons of metal and hard rock. In fact, he can sing anything, in any range and in any style. He's listed some of his most-watched videos on the main page of his channel, and I hope you will check them out. One that many people look at first is I'll Make a Man out of Youm from Disney's Mulan. All his Witcher covers are also fantastic. Thanks for reacting! More Dan, please.

Yes, he did get the harmonica from his father but Dan’s dad passed away days before he released ‘American Trilogy’ which was over 6 years ago. His dad loved Elvis & that video is dedicated to his father. I definitely cry with Dan on that one. (having lost my dad too) So emotional 😭😭

    • @GrandmasGotGraceLW
      @GrandmasGotGraceLW Před 3 měsíci +4

Dan's father passed away on October 4, 2017. Five days later (October 9, 2017), Dan sang Elvis' "American Trilogy" as a tribute to his father, because he had loved Elvis' music, and that song was his favorite.
He does NOT play a harmonica in that song. He does, however, cry.
The story of "the" harmonica keeps getting more and more mixed up with the addition of so many followers since THIS song.
In a podcast with Jay (Drunk3PO) -- who is also one of Dan's fellow retro-gamers) about two years back, Dan tells when he DID get his FIRST harmonica from his father. He said, in that podcast, that he was somewhere between the ages of 9 & 11, when he got the FIRST harmonica. Davi (dah-vee') Vasc (Dan's two-year-younger brother) has said on his own channel, that their father was always buying harmonicas, and as he bought new ones, he would give the old ones to the boys. They both also learned to play other instruments.
Davi is a game-music COMPOSER, and his music is just tremendous. You can search for him on CZcams, and you'll find his two channels. He is also the bass player for his and Dan's band (FEARLESS). He and Dan wrote all of the music for their 12-track album "Chronicles of Ancient Wisdom," which I am SURE you (Marcus and Kristin...hope I got those right) would love to hear that album. It's REALLY fun to listen closely and discover the "gems" (SCRIPTURES) hidden in each song. Supposedly there are scriptures in only five of the tracks, but actually, all of the other tracks are most definitely related to scriptures as well. The whole album is a "Tolkien-like" tale. You can find it on all of the music venues, plus there are several songs from it, in video form, on Dan's channel. If you go and look at all the titles on Spotify, etc., you'll easily find the videos on the channel. Davi was the main music-writer for the album. Dan wrote the lyrics, and he is the lead singer. Two of their childhood friends are the other two band members. Gabriel Belozi plays electric and other guitars, and Giovanni Rezende plays drums. Gio is also Dan's "media guy," who works with things like his Instagram and Facebook pages.
Dan has NEVER said that the harmonica used in "Amazing Grace" is "the harmonica" given to him by his dad. However, it probably was ONE of the ones he and Davi treasure very highly. The one Dan plays in "Amazing Grace" (which was posted on April 7, 2023 -- a little more than six years after Roberto Vasconcelos passed away) is -- going by its size and how he changes registers while playing it -- probably what is called a "chromatic" harmonica.
      - - - - - - - - - -
NOTE: Daniel's and Davi's official last name is Vasconcelos, but they both go by Vasc, professionally.

A lot of people call it a harp :) - CCR sings a song called "Down on the Corner" - first verse:
"Early in the evenin' just about supper time
Over by the courthouse they're starting to unwind
Four kids on the corner trying to bring you up
Willy picks a tune out and he blows it on the harp"
If i didn't know that song, I probably wouldn't know it was called a harp either.

I'm an atheist, but there is so much Christian art and also music I like. Amazing Grace, Stabat Mater Dolorosa, Jesus Christ Superstar (I've got the original album and the movie), Enigma's first album was heavily (or should I say Heavenly) influenced by Catholicism with the Gregorian chants. Gregorian chants on their own are also beautiful imo. Especially in an echoing church. To me as a European atheist, this is more culture than religion.

Dan's version of "Gethsemane," from the 70's Broadway musical "Jesus Christ Superstar," is phenomenal. It's the story of Jesus in The Garden of Gethsemane, at the foot Mount of Olives, where he's asking God if there is another option where he doesn't need to be crucified. We'll worth watching. 🙏💞💓
