We took this video to show you how to replace the Shifting knob or the whole assembly on a Mercedes C-class w203. The chome bezel is common problem on w203. It get's loose because the clips that are holding crack. The most common reason for the clips to crack is that the leather boot gets to dry and shrinks over time. So make sure that you apply leather lotion often especially during the hot summer months. In this video we show you how to replace the know only as well!
It will be almost the same procedure for all w203 models that are equipped with the automatic transmission. This includes c160 c180 c200 c220 c230 c240 c270 c280 c320 c350:

Oct ‘23. 2002 C320. Just followed your video and I am very happy! Paid $27 for a new bezel and $7 for leather softener. First I used Q tips dipped in acetone to remove all of the Gorilla tape glue residue which was securing my gear shift. Why didn’t I do this years ago?? Next DIY project: replace LED display screen (as easy as bezel fix).
can a bad transmission module corrupt this gearshift/indicator piece? I think gearshift plate was replaced when the module was replaced. I can’t think of any other reason why I still have the original indicator piece/plate..

Great Video …. My clips are definitely broken and the trim floats around. So, it seems the trim and leather both have to be replaced ….. because the leather must have shrunk. I wonder how much those parts are?

Can the bezel only be replaced? I just bought this car used. The boot seems to be fairly loose. But the plastic bezel is cracked. Thanks for any and all help.
If you need a quick fix you can use a small tube of gorilla glue and it will stay in place
could you install an aftermarket shift knob because the previous owner had worn mine down to nothing and i cant find a new knob for a decent price

Hi, can u please tell me is it possible to remove the Chrome ring on the knob, i want to install a r230 knob but it has a aluminium part instead of chrome. I want to switch it with the chrome "ring"

hi guys I've just purchased a 2006 auto E350 Mercedes and managed to leave the passengers side window open last nite around 20mm and when I got in it this morning water had gotten in and water stained the wood around gear shifter,,,,,is there any quick fixes or is this a take it out disassemble sand down and re lacquer job. cheers in advance Logan

Noone shows how to remove the silver selctor part if they aren't broken. Anyone know the trick on doing it?
What is the part number for just the leather boot/part for a CLK model? I have replaced the silver trim two times already. It keeps breaking. On its third one in just a year, so I am guessing the leather piece needs to also be replaced. Having trouble finding just the leather piece. It is always sold together with the shifter, which I don't need. I have a CLK AMG model, so it has engine start/stop.

You popped out the leather but what about the electronic part (where is has P R N D)? Can that come out?
Yes, that can be removed as well. It is held on by 4 clips similar to the leather part, just push it out. You can purchase a replacement shifter trim (just the metal) for like $30 on Amazon. This is how you would swap over the electronic part (and leather) from the original into the new. I recommend cleaning and conditioning the leather prior to installation on the new shifter trim.
@@sicilianstyle4517 I agree. I am having difficulty removing my indicator from the frame. My electronic part will not come out when I try to push it out. Are there any other ways to unclip it and remove it without breaking the frame?
Hello Great video . Please I have a mercedes benz C270 CDI automatic transmission and at first the perfomance was good untill I realised that it is stocked on the second and the S/W no longer works also the shiftronic no longer works and the car only drives on the 2nd gear and I have had it gearbox oil changed and also the filter but the car still only drives on one gear please can you help me out
Looks like its in get you home mode. The transmission control unit will need to be reset as far as I'm aware this needs to be done in a dealer with the Star system.
One other thing check that the electrical connector on the side of the gearbox is clean and locked in position.
NEVER pull on the cables!!!!

Typical Mercedes-Benz quality - the chrome bezel tabs break all the time in the W209 too.
Condition the leather and you will not have a problem.
