You could bend multiple branches for a more powerful engine. Just in case you wanted to snare something bigger. Also, I was a boy-scout and your knots were fine.
The way I remember it is if the knot works it's a good knot
Isn't that how scout leaders get people into the boyscouts?
When I was a Boy Scout I forgot every knot I was taught almost immediately, I normally just use a bunch of overhand knots until it's strong enough or a slipknot when appropriate.
The knots were rubbish. He should have tied clove hitches to the branch and then they would be easily adjusted to the right lengths.
Knots are just like tools and materials; some are better suited than others, some won't work at all, but in most cases what you have/know will be sufficient.
Back when I was a scout, being prepared was the motto, but the main lesson was making do with what you had.

Modern Rogue: We made a snare trap.
*_ACME Inc. wants to know your location_*
Curious is the trapmaker's art; his efficacy unwitnessed by his own eyes
"imagine if you are hunting wild game like a bunny or a house elf or something"
I love snare traps. When I was in scouts, we were playing a game (which is hard to explain, but it involved running, hiding, catching people, and a few other things), and we said it was by any means necessary, meaning that everyone was setting up preparations before (one of my friends set up a hidden shelter out of logs, leaves, and grass; I made a makeshift ghillie suit; etc.), and one of the things I set up was a simple snare trap between two trees (not this particular type, but still a snare trap). Someone didnât believe me that it was an effective type of trap, so to prove it, they decided to walk through it during the day, which caught them. They got what was coming for them. Someone untied the trap to the tree and started pulling them by the foot around as their âpetâ for a couple minutes as a cruel way of reminding them that they were wrong.
"We should do the safety thing"
That sentence is a great summary of this channel.
5:15 âBecause If a person stops stimulating us, we stop loving them. Youâre no longer interesting to talk to. Goodbyeâ Unexpected-but nice

I was incorrect, it is the MR Discord not Scam Nation, they have a link in the desc. of every video.
The Snare Trap - so simple and effective, the Modern Rogue nailed it on the first try, great job, guys! I'd only make 2 suggestions. First, your bait stick should have a line coming off of it to hold your bait, preferably inside the snare loop - or a long line that you can pull from a safe distance to trigger it - so that when your prey leans in and messes with the bait, you're more likely to grab them around the neck or body, helping to guarantee a catch. Second, from what my dad told me back when he taught me to make these, you really want to put the snare as close to directly under the sapling as you can, to make the pulling of the snare as close to a straight line up as you can.
Seriously, though, these are REALLY small quibbles, and basically just boil down to "It works just fine, but could be a tad more efficient". Love watching all your stuff!

Thanks gentlemen for sharing this with us. I would love to see the aforementioned catapult episode. Keep up the excellent work
I'm disappointed, I was totally expecting one of them to hop in the trap and take it for a spin
That would have been interesting. On the other hand, it would probably have reset the injury counter.

@@willjames3735 It would break your neck. Look at the video and tell me that it would not break your neck.
đ Loved this video! 6:33 mark I pictured a stuffed animal being pulled across the grass via rope lol. The dummy was more impressive because of the force it had to sweep the mannequin off it's feet. As a Safety & Health professional, I appreciated the humor with the last injured date counter (which flashed on screen briefly). I rolled laughing because that is required in most company safety management processes. đ Thanks for every video produced!
I like how it goes from "it's dangerous I have to be careful" to "oh we need more tension!!"
(Brian) "You wanna try to really fling him?!"
(Maniacal Laughter)
(Jason) "Yes, I do!"
1:15 I love how Brian said "We should do the safety thing"
I love how they brushed over the game, like a bunny, a squirrel, or a ***house elf***, like it was absolutely nothing
OK, I thought he said that and I was just imaging it.
Excellent editing, soundwork, and of course: snaring!
3:02
Jason: "And we tie one end of this snare.... to the branch"
Rope: "Nah, I'm good. Already tied myself to this prey. FIRE MY BRIAN!"
When by yourself, a spring snare is easy to set if you:
1. Attach both lines to the spring pole first;
2. Place the trigger keeper (the y-stake) into the ground;
3. Bait, then set/arm the trigger;
4. Arrange the snare, making sure that none of your body, head, or limbs are within the snare; and
5. Remove yourself from the area as much as needed to minimize alerting prey, but stay close enough (binocular range) to tell if the snare is sprung . . . so the animal doesn't just hang there attracting predators that might steal your supper.
A new Modern Rogue video always brightens my day
I dig the background music talking about love while you guys are setting up a trap đ
Thatâs so cool! Awesome video guys!
I love it. When do we get the follow-up episode with an ewok net?
You can trim the extra branches off the end so there's less air resistance as the branch springs up, and the trap works better, especially if it's leafy. You basically want to get rid of everything but the part of the stick that is functioning as your spring.
The Modern Rogue: questions I didn't know I wanted answers to
You know a project has hit the bullseye when Brian's laugh turns into a maniacal cackle.
2:43 I appreciate the Pet Shop Boys reference
There's a type of paracord that actually has snare wire inside it. Might be useful in your EDC bags.
In modern rogue history
Jason: you've been disarmed
That pet shop boys reference killed me đ€Ł
9:45 as someone who has used snares before; for a rabbit, you want it to be floating with the bait hanging on the top area of the snare; the rabbit will jump through the hoop to catch the food and get caught.
I really love how you can tell the moment when they stop thinking of this as a loaded weapon to a toy to be played with. Right after the changling got caught the first time
That was pretty awesome. You should try with the dummy having a little more weight like a back pack filled with stuff or a weighted vest
wouldnât the perfect modern rouge need to know about cologne and things like that
On today's episode, two grown men continue playing in the backyard!
I love this channel.
That was cool but I had really hoped to see one of you go flying :P
Think you'd need a bigger branch though.
Can i suggest cutting a small notch in the branch for the paracord to sit in, i feel like that would be more effective then relying on friction to keep the rope on the tree! anyway, great video and keep up the great work!
I love how in Hacking the system Brian was the wise guy and was so confident but Jason was like there being annoyed by the hacks

I'm not going to pick on you guys, you actually did a pretty good job. Just to let you know there are simpler designs for the same kind of trap.
I prefer a different/more refined trigger myself
As a younger brother to two older evil geniuses yes they absolutely work and they seriously hurt
I like how they just casually continue past the part about a house elfđđŸ
im impressed in jasons casual snare tying skills, not so much in his tying string to branches skills
A good alternative to a spring pole as a motor is a weight and pulley. I've made a power snare with both. The dead weight is more reusable than the spring pole method.
My favorite part of the video was âyouve been disarmedâ as the thing loses its arms
You don't have to make the snare and the key two separate ropes, you can tie the key into the snare rope. I have made a lot of variations of this and for their first time doing it not too bad.
Yup, also don't need separate toggle and trigger sticks, just one barely hooked to the one staked into the ground.
Ah yes!! Fling the ChILD!!
I'm loving the roman sponsor skits like that. It's hilarious. You guys should get a dummy to represent the Beady Eyed Doctors.
I would have used a square knot or a bowline, but it worked, and that's what matters. Your videos are the highlight of my week.
I liked his catchphrase, "Go away, Bad Guys!"
If you want a stronger trap that can actually lift a person, run a rope over a thicker branch and tie weights to the end away from the trigger. Maybe large filled sandbags, or just 50-100 lbs plates from a weight set.
My friend caught me in a snare, he made my high heels slip and the weight was just enough to make me fall & keep my tied feet up in the air. There is a video of my trapped feet to prove it.
Oh man April Fools is going to be epic this year
can we get a compilation of the best slow-mo brian yells
An idea from someone who doesn't know what they're doing, what if you put the rope for tension closer to the base of the tree, and then the rope for the snare at the top. That way you get a lot of tension and still get a lot of distance for the snare to lift your game off the ground.
I'm loving the background music.
Ive used this trap and a deadfall trap. With this trap i tend to build a stick fence on one side of the bait so the animal can only access the bait from one side. Id like to see you guys set up deadfall traps next. Be prepaired to smash your fingers a couple times. Untill you get used to serting them up i suggest using smaller rocks so you dont break your fingers.
Great video, I now know why all the cartoons don't air on tv any more
Finally, rest easy knowing you're safe from skinwalkers wandering in from the brush.
I really wanted to see them test it on themselves. I would have personally volunteered because Iâm really curious.
Justin it would be pretty cool but I doubt this would work for one of them, the branch doesnât look too strong so if the tree tried to lift them off the ground Iâm fairly sure the branch would just snap, and my experience with trees under tension like that snapping leads me to believe it probably would snap at the base and could cause a significant emotional event for one or both of them, probably for the best that they left this one alone xD
And to think I first saw this loonatic back on the golden days of Film Riot...
And I don't regret a single day of Brushwoodness.
("The Modern Rogue" or "Two Wackjobs With Money")
Now what would be awsome is a series based on fortifying the rogue warehouse like spider holes sentry posts and more traps. Then at the end of the series the rogue army arises armed with all the weapons made on the show to fend of the changling!
This was surprisingly tense and awesome!
Much like my first honeymoon!
If you can't find a good springy branch to use, throw a line over a limb and use a counterweight, or use the weight as a dead fall trap (think anvil falling) using the same trigger or a tripwire trigger depending on your set but check your areas laws first because setting anything big enough to kill or maim a human may well be illegal
love ur content guys!
Are we going to have dead weight traps too?
man, how did you know?? (yes)
