Haha, I was going to comment the same thing- getting tired just thinking of how much promo and how many different performances they did of Dynamite- so creative! But it was worth it, they did grow their fanbase a lot after Dynamite. Besides MMA 2020 the Cordon performance was a lot of fun and cool how they staged it (Life Goes On and Dynamite).

So true. it was just such a cool and nice era with the many concepts and the retro vibe to it and different remixes. Also this choreography is just so much fun.

This song is basically one huge homage to MJ - the dancing, the lyrics, the pop funk sound, the outfits and even some stages for live performances 🥰 needless to say, the Jackson family heard it and loved it 😊

Those destinations at the end of the live was actually the places they were scheduled to tour during their 2020 World tour that unfortunately got cancelled to the pandemic.

One thing about BTS, you will never see the same performance twice. The amount of work they put into a performance is insane.
I have spent several videos praising all that you and Caitlin have had to say, however, Winnie takes the cake with this one being tired of you outing her bias being wrecked. I had not actually seen this specific "Dynamite" live performance, perhaps because I was obsessed with the dancing in the one where J-Hope is in the purple velvet suit, so this was extra awesome to get to see!
Hahaha Winnie is very small, but she has a very big personality 😂
I will add that since you enjoyed getting to see the choreography here, you may enjoy reacting to the performance of "I'm Fine" on Jimmy Fallon at some point. My favorite thing about that performance is how the cramped stage means you can't miss the choreography and I love the contrast between the lyrics and body language. I've seen several online discussions of "If you could ask BTS to perform one song for you in person, what would it be?" and although I have so many songs I love and "I'm Fine" isn't my all-time favorite, I am obsessed with how much they convey with choreography in "I'm Fine" so I always think it would be incredible to see up close.

Dynamite is the song that got me hooked on BTS. It happened when I saw the VMAs live performance and... well, that day for me turned out to be something like "once you jimin you can't jimout" 😅

I love how you're so deep in the memes already! Your puppers are beyond adorable! And ever since the IDOL mv, BTS blew the doors open to CG because at that point they had gone like 6 years using using very little CGI, yet get accused of using too much CG anyways, so they purposefully over did the CG in Idol and since then they have embraced CG :)

Honestly, there is no way that one can listen to this song and watch this video and not have a smile on their faces. Our boys are such balls of joy in this one especially.

There's so many different remixes and different stage performances of Dynamite. Even BTS forgot how many remixes there are (there are 9 btw). The video is amazing and its amazing how beautiful the video is considering how much of it was CGI! Your dogs are amazing! They are super cute!

The best place to see the choreography is usually the "dance practice" videos because, you're right: during performances and music videos there are usually closeups or other parts of the video. They aren't actually singing or wearing fancy outfits, though. 😊

If I recall correctly, they had everything prepared to use actual powder fireworks but they had two or three weeks of extreme bad weather in Seoul so they had to change to an indoor and CGI version

You two and the dogs are all adorable!! Dynamite is just too fun but also intended to cheer up Army because of Covid as a Disco Pop track. Huge fans of the dogs. The background is cgi but the bakery etc is a set they built. They do a live version at muster I think that used real color smoky effect shot up to look like dynamite video I think. The go insane building sets. Like even Permission to Dance they built the whole building and a fake SW dessert in Korea to film in (empty lot strategically placed piles of sand plants etc). BTS is always so extra. We love it.

6:55 It's Sets + CGI this song was their first song release in the beginning/middle of the pandemic so they couldn't go out to film because of quarantine.
You should definitely react to their MMA2020 performance of Dynamite (they also did amazing performances of "Black Swan", "On" and "Life goes on" for MMA2020). Just be sure to blurr out their logo and/or mirror the screen to avoid copyright issues 😇

@@AndrewBergSax yess react to this only suga isn’t in this performance because he had shoulder surgery because he had a accident a long time ago and finally had surgery but you will see they left a spot for him but also make sure to react to this performance with you wife!!! And also first upload the video without any mirroring or blur because MMA really doesn’t have a issue with copy right it’s more MAMA and so for people who haven’t seen the performance they would be able to see it but if there is a issue yeah then maybe mirror it or have pauses in between!!! And when you do react to life goes on react to it also with your wife the lyrics touched so many army’s heart as it was during the first year of quarantine and also the mv is directed by jungkook so everything you see like the angles or the scenes it was jungkooks idea and they filmed part of the mv in there own dorm/ house where they live together!!!

I don't remember if the colour explosion thing was real or fake but the sets were real.
An explosion that was definitely real was the iconic one in mic drop and almost all scenes in their mv's are real sets and rarely green screen.

This is my favorite dynamite performance purely for what the band brings to it (and the matching outfits help lol). I’m so mad you can’t find the original aired version but it’s still my favorite.

ok. this is the song that made me an ARMY. I love it soooooo much i watched every video and version of this song one night without sleeping and then only listened to this song for a whole month before i let other BTS songs in my playlist. i know youd be focusing on the structure of the song but the best dynamite performance for me was MAMA 2020, with dance break. i hope you get to see that esp your wife. Btw, if you really enjoyed seeing the full choreography, they have dance practices for a lot of their songs which is similar to this performance video in that it’s generally a single non-moving camera angle. You also get to see a bit more of their personality and individual style, since they wear whatever they want for practice and get silly with it sometimes (when you get to Baepsae, I highly recommend watching BOTH the dance practice and a live performance.)
I didn't see any one else really answer your question about the MV - it was all CGI and on set. They experienced a really bad wet season and also covid delays forced them to shoot on green screens! But it still looks fabulous.
Also the matching suits and colours was Taehyungs idea 😍 (memories 2020 dvd)

I think my favorite Dynamite live performance was the 2020 MMA one, I loved the dance break so much!
They tried to do real fireworks but it was pouring rain the last day of the shoot, so that part's greenscreen. 🙂💜

That’s my life motto at the moment at any rate 🤣 You two perfectly represent the two brain cells in my head battling each other during this performance - ‘Oooh, brass!’ ‘Oooh, matching burgundy outfits!’ Have to be honest and say not much other thinking has happened anytime I’ve watched this one hahah
I genuinely can’t believe that this is your first time seeing Dynamite. I think that’s just because it seems to be so many people’s introduction to BTS (or one of the things they see pretty soon after) being so well known but idk, I think it’s pretty cool you’re a fair bit into your BTS journey before seeing it. Because you have that background already there, Dynamite can complement the rest of their discography rather than defining it as it can oft do. Being so different to anything else they’ve done before, I personally think it can be a tricky introduction for people new to BTS to get a full picture.
I love how the two of you are getting more comfortable in your enjoyment and appreciation of the guys and their music. The doggo captions really got me 🤣
Hahaha yeah I think it's like Butter in that way: it brought in a new audience and it's definitely different than the rest of their discography. It was kind of cool seeing it now though because like you said, it just complements the rest of their music.
And the puppies will be back! Partially because it's fun, and partially because it has always been a challenge to record with them barking in another room 😅
About the scenery in the music video: It is CGI here. If I remember correctly, they actually meant to shoot it outside but couldn't because it was at a time of severy flooding in Korea.

Not only the background is CGI, they are actually indoors! This was shot in the middle of pandemic. They did a really good job with the lighting its literally looks like outside.

I have been catching up on your reactions and it’s just been very delightful. I always appreciate reactor that sincerely look into the music and/or lyrics (or both!) and their messages. And since your specialty is music in particular, I really like your music breakdowns and your music theory it’s very interesting! I think this is my favorite live performance of dynamite but it’s hard to pick because they did a lot during this promotional. There was one they did for the voice as well which was really really excellent!
I also want to say that your wife’s thoughts on Dionysus and Black Swan was also very insightful and interesting as well, so I hope she continues to join in every once in a while! She probably would really like anything from the Wings albums and the map of the soul era, because there’s a lot of good subjects to dive into there!
Anyway! I don’t really have a way to segue into this, but I just want to suggest 134340 (Pluto) since it’s got such a cool and unique sound (even for BTS) I think you would enjoy it and it has a very interesting meaning/word play!

Edit : While they did have sets made for dynamite there is also green screens used x') there's a lot of people who still pass around a narrative that BTS never use green screen/CGI and it's just not true, of course they don't do everything with it though and it's not an automatic go to for them, but yeah... Sometimes circumstances don't allow for what the MV team want and it just makes more sense to use movie magic instead x')

The video for dynamite does have some CGI, and was filmed in a sound stage with a green screen. It was filmed during the initial lockdown phase of the pandemic and I’ve often wondered if that was why. The whole set has kind of a California vibe to to it and I wonder if they had to do it this way because there was a travel ban and they couldn’t hop on a plane to LA to shoot a music video. Although they do have other videos where they do CGI. Their song Idol, for example. In that video they use so much CGI that they seem to be trying to make a point. All that said, when they did their group reaction to this video, one of the members said they tried to use real fireworks during the key change, but it didn’t work. They might have been joking though, sometimes it’s hard to tell.

Ah yeah, the real vs CGI... they were supposed to film that last scene outdoors, but the weather was too bad, so they ended up filming that sequence with the green hills and rainbow fireworks in a pure greenscreen environment. Dynamite has quite some CGI, mostly for the backgrounds. They built all the sets in a studio, but the backgrounds (streets, sky, ...) are added in post.

This is the only time they performed this particular arrangement. As if they didn't already release enough music as it is, they also sometimes create special once-only arrangements or remixes of songs specifically for award shows.

I love your reactions. Fyi, BTS has put up the behind the scene for Dynamite on their CZcams channel BangtanTV. You can see how they make most of their MV and also a lot of other contents (like Bangtan Bombs) on that channel. It's deeper into the BTS rabbit hole. ;)
