Saying this I'm probably giving away my age, but I vividly remembering watching this interview live in real time when it first premiered. I also remember making sure that I had a blank vhs tape in the vcr ready to hit that record button soon as the interview started. This was the time when video cassette recorders ( VCRs) were still being used for playback and recording media from television in the home. Nowadays everyone either stream or download the media that they want to watch and listen to. I remember how high the anticipation was for this interview. Watching this brought back so many fond memories. 🤗

Just to add some context to y'all comments. This promo footage was filmed about a month before the actual interview. Also, by the time of the actual interview, Michael had already performed at the Super Bowl.

It seems to me she was low key shading him throughout this video. Giving him the side eye. Leaving him out of conversations by talking with her back to him. That stupid comment about him living in an actual house with actual books. He was trying to be her friend then when the interview is over she just walks off and actually says See ya. That's it. Not even a handshake.
Neverland is surreal! everything that the King of Pop idealized in a fantastic, beautiful, wonderful place. Oprah Winfrey gave voice to accusers, slanderers, opportunists, with false accusations, untruths that have not been proven.

To me, it seems as though Oprah ignored the fact that she was a guest in Micheal’s home. She seemed far more interested in how she herself looked and came off. I truly spent many years as a huge fan, but over the last several years I’ve kind of lost it. I remain an MJ fan though!!

It's very interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes whilst making a programme, there's a lot of waiting and sitting around even for big stars.
Without the accusations MJ would never have given this interview, Neverland was his refuge, invaded by journalists, his worst nightmare. he must have hated every minute of that. But he had to prove that he was "normal" to explain everything about his skin, his lifestyle. but I have to admit that when I saw this interview it was fascinating.

As person who spent a few days with him and he wasn’t able to defend himself you would have thought a journalist would have mentioned when she interviewed him she would give a non biased statement on how she thought. When Michael gets in character his moves are so precise and polished!
I did not know that they rehearse this interview LOL
TV usually rehearses during that week so that they would know where to block the cameras and lights, how the guest and interviewer would look, if they’re moving to other locations what they would need etc. everything has to be prepared or you might find an instance where the people are not lit well or they do a movement where its unplanned so its missed. Regarding questions, the guest might know the gist or nothing at all. Oprah said she didnt know what to ask so she asked on the spot because she was nervous. With all the ridiculous questions, in some later interviews Michael used to ask what questions will be asked and he needs to approve them to answer them.

It's so beautiful to see MJ in such candid detail. I've looked up to Oprah for almost my whole life so I'm sorry to know where her opinion has gone about Michael. But at least there was a place and time when they had some understanding and camraderie. Thanks for bringing us this footage because it's really priceless! You don’t have to be a Michael Jackson documentary expert to know that. I wish you used your platform to bring home the message she took complete advantage of his name, his family, his children, whenever it benefitted her- and then uses his name in death to backstab him when it’s relevant to her now.

I love Michael jackson. Yet Michael was too trusting in people. He always gave gave and gave, never freeloading on folks. Yet they wanted to be his 'buddy' when the money was coming in. All this life this man has been used and abused mentally, financially, and physically. I can see why he always wanted to keep to himself. When you have THAT much power and wealth, you have snakes around you. I just wish Michael would have surrounded himself with a supportive entourage instead of money hungry leeches. I didn't even trust his manager Frank Dileo. And Michael fired his ass in 1988 or 1989.
