  • Kerr Stuart 0-4-2ST 'Tattoo' Class
    S4 Stanhope (Kerr Stuart Works No. 2395 of 1917)
    Purchased from Kerr Stuart by Holloway Brothers for a housing project in Rosyth were it was used until 1918. The engine moved to Kent for construction of the Swanley Bypass (A20) between 1921 and 1924. The loco was sold to Durham County Water Board for use in the construction of Burnhope Reservoir between 1930 and 1932, alongside 6 other Tattoo steam locomotives.
    After the contract finished the loco was sold to Penrhyn Quarry Railway, were the locomotive had its boiler lowered by 6.5 inches and ballast weights added to improve stability. Initially the loco worked at Port Penrhyn, before moving to the slate quarries at Bethesda. The loco was withdrawn in 1948 with boiler troubles and became part of the famous scrap line at Felin Fawr. The loco was preserved in 1966 and moved to Bressingham.
    Further moves in preservation saw the loco move to Landkey (home of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Association) in 1985 and then Kew Bridge Steam Museum in 1991. In 1992 it moved to the Old Kiln Light Railway in Surrey were restoration started which was completed by Alan Keef Ltd to complete the restoration in 1999.
    The locomotive was then based at the West Lancashire Light Railway, before moving to the Apedale Valley Light Railway, home of the Moseley Railway Trust.
