      Thanks! Brave people riding a tandem around so many others, they’re great to ride but definitely handle like an artic. Probably the most stressful bit of riding I’ve ever done was coming into Prague and having to dodge tourists who were in their own world. That bike doesn’t do dodging well at all!

    Great video. Considering 12-hr worlds in Borrego next year. What clip-ons do you use? None seem compatible with winged (non-round) bars. Thanks.

    Good luck on your record mate. Nuce to hear people are doing tandem touring as it was super popular in the 70s and 80s.

      I can see why! My fiancée loves it! It’s such a great way to explore places, you don’t have to work hard to talk to each other while you’re riding along and you get to share your strengths while riding, so when one of you is having a bad day the other keeps you going at a better speed than you would be on your own bike. Not to mention all the photos the stoker can take and the excitement everyone seems to get at just seeing a tandem!!

      They’re definitely worth looking into if you’ve not got a disc already. The delivery and fitting was super quick and so far as I can tell they’re every bit as good as a full disc for a fraction of the price!

      @@Ultra-Craig yea! I’m an ambassador for them. We went to the Silverstone wind tunnel in January and did various tests and found they tested just as fast as other £2k discs from leading manufacturers

      Awesome stuff! I knew tunnel testing was done but it’s good to get some better validation of my feelings! Sadly it does mean it was the bike getting faster and not me getting fitter though😢😂

      @Ultra-Craig Před rokem +1

      Sounds rapid! I’m waiting for rim brakes to make a comeback; I miss my 622mm rotors.
      I think at the end of the day quality speaks for itself; there’s been a lot of people trying to poke holes in the frames but no one has yet found an issue; and for the price you can’t find anything offering everything the Elves does (at least for what I wanted it for). When I was looking around I couldn’t find a second hand aero frame with 28mm tyre clearances for close to this money!

      @DaveCM Před rokem +2

      They really do! The club I ride with a lot is full of very high end bikes. But they are everywhere. The last time I rode with them, a guy showed up on his new Elves. I immediately gravitated to him and talked to him about his bike. He was trying to justify his purchase initially. I made it clear to him that he had no reason to justify it. It is a very cool bike. I stands out in the sea of S-Works and Treks,

    Nice setup! Looking slick indeed!
    A couple of questions, if I may:
    1. Why cover only the chainring? Certainly a full chaincover would have been more aero? Late Mike Burrows once said that a full chaincover is a 1.5 mph gain.
    2. Why didn't you go 26 inch with performance gravel racing tyres? It would have allowed you to use up to 2.2 inch wide tyres (depending on the fork arms/chainstays splay angles. Might have needed to use a gravel-specific or even a fatbike-specific large-Q-factor crankset to get the chainline to clear the tyre - but totally doable).
    More comfort should have equaled less fatigue accumulation and therefore more ground coverage (and more comfort is always welcome, especially in places like Bosnia, when the road deteriorates)?

    • @Ultra-Craig
      @Ultra-Craig Před rokem +4

      Hi!
      So; the boring answer to 1) is that EZ gains make a chainring cover, not a chain line cover. Now that you’ve suggested it though I’d say that Mike was talking about a track bike chain line, not a geared setup, and I can’t see how you’d effectively fair a rear mech in without increasing overall drag. TBH I think that a lot of the 1.5mph would come from fairing the crankset which is what’s been done here; I can’t see chain aero drag being significant.
      For 2) as I say, most of Central Europe has really good roads already, the only place where bigger tyres might have been an advantage would have been the Hungarian backroads which weren’t the best surfaced but the aero drag of the wider tyres would have probably been more of a disbenefit over the entire distance. Also on a boring practical level the max tyre clearance (all be it conservative) for the evo is 32mm, so you could get a bit more in, but certainly nowhere near 2.2”. Besides; I’m an old school roadie at heart, and 30mm is still a massive tyre for me 😉

    • @darringrey4329
      @darringrey4329 Před rokem

      3XL would be my pick , he looks tall nice looking rig

    • @Ultra-Craig
      @Ultra-Craig Před rokem

      I’d speak with your local elves team but I’d be amazed if you wouldn’t be best off on a 4XL; I always say I’ve got the legs of a 188cm person bolted onto the upper body of a 178cm person which really drives my stack up high. I’d worry about needing a giant stem and too many headset spacers to reach your bars.
      The Evo has some unusual geometry so it’s definitely worth getting a bike fit before committing to a size; I chose mine off of a large spreadsheet!

    Is it illegal to use a support vehicle to set the record, since the bike is loaded like it is?

    • @Ultra-Craig
      @Ultra-Craig Před rokem +2

      Hi; so Guinness don’t differentiate between supported and unsupported which is why the record is currently held by a supported rider. The difference is really around cost (you’re looking at 1-2000 dollars or pounds for a one day record) and difficulty because you need to carry everything yourself, find witnesses yourself and fix anything that needs fixing yourself.

    • @SundbyCPH
      @SundbyCPH Před rokem +1

      @glennoc8585 that’s a massive question! The answer is probably mostly China & Taiwan even though it’s mostly UK & US companies.
      Restrap bags are made in Yorkshire. Parcours wheels are turned into wheels in the UK. I think SON lights & hubs are made in Germany still? Same with conti tyres.
