- Possibly one of the best additions to Rain World: Downpour is slugpups. These are baby slugcats that will follow you around and need to be taken care of. In this stream, the goal was to take my two children from the spawn in Outskirts all the way to Journey's End... what could go wrong?

I kind of love how this challenge actively instills the parental instinct of just grabbing your child and booking it when there's danger.

Slug pups can learn what objects/creatures are safe and which are a threat, based on how you react to those objects/creatures. But only if you’re not holding them.

How tf do you teach them that the octopods( I think is their name idk ) CAN be a threat but we use them to jump higher and fall slower

every creature in RW has a set personality
one would kill 3 lizzards to save you one would be too afraid to throw a rock at a defenceless target.
@@-KatanaKrow- no,it affects lizard agressivness and its movement around the region(one green can stay in one room for long and be too lazy too attack you when you jump on its back,other will move around the region and try to hunt you down on sight)

moderate spoilers on how slugpups work
a tip for future surprise adoptions in rainworld: the slugpups will try to mimic you
if you often run away from predators, they will too. if you often kill predators you see, they will too.
If you never let go of them or always carry them on your back they will become more 'dependent' on you, fighting predators less and overall being a lazy ass
You can notice this behaviour yourself if you always carry one pup and show the other pup how to fight, and then get grabbed. The fighter might grab a spear and try to save you, the pampered will probably run away.
I'll keep that in mind
Do they copy your skill levels too? If so, then for a good player they would be a huge help for fighting and overall reliable babies. But if you're not that good then it might be better to just keep them with you otherwise they might just die

@@khajiithaswares4147 i once had a tamed pink lizard do a surprise jump on me. It was like it planned it, it was following me just fine and then it decided to backward a room. After i ate a few bats I went back through to check and then it suddenly hooped onto me from behind off a small ledge. (Basically what the pipe was attached to.)

Did you know, you can give commands to your kids through simple in-game gestures
Kids can learn from their mother, to fight, hunt and gather, the same way they may become a help to you, they can also become incompetent little dead beats that wont even move if you're not actively carrying them
You can play tag and fetch with your kiddos, just give them the right command.

Jump with no inputs is play. They pick up their favorite piece of rubbish on the ground and follow closer to you.
Jump while holding up to stop playing.
Crouch and tap jump for stay. Only way to stop it is by picking the pup up.
It's pretty simple.

Imagine being monk and jumping in after your sibling only to not find them for (years?) Only to come across them again and find out your a scug uncle/aunt. Makes sense why the monk just stands there in shock.

A cycle could be a day long, but cycles vary ln length. The only slugcat with set cycle length I think it's Artificer and only in Metropolis
And seeing how strong the rain is, we also don't know how much time passes between cycles. But since it's calling "Hibernating", we can assume that it's several days at least

@d0ubl3d Eh... it depends. The deer are always going back and forth, so one will come eventually. Exploding the spore gets them to come quicker. So of you really need to rush, grab two. One to explode, one to lay on the ground. You can keep spores in your stomach.

After I unlocked the slug pups I wanted to shoot some of my own so I started a new survivor campaign. I found a light blue one in the shaded citadel and named him Buddy, short for Two Budding Blossoms. I took him to Moon and then Pebbles so he glows now. Later in the industrial complex I found a pink one and named her Sage, short for Scent of Sage. I have the same problem with getting her to eat centipedes but I found that she'll eat them if I bite them first to get them to stop moving. Either she doesn't like the wriggling or she's worried about getting shocked. I haven't gotten them to journeys end yet but I'm super close and I'm in the biome. Just gotta remember the way there.
I've now made a home with my children at journey's end.

The fact that the game had an ending for specifically two slugpups is incredibly amazing! And also for the Monk!
I'm pretty sure survivor finding 2 slugpups is canon since in the monk ending in Journeys end we see survivor with 2 slugpups as monk and survivor reunite even if you haven't rescued the slugpups as survivor in your own playthrough
@@starkiller332 Except that the lore ending does not include the Slugcat tree. Also if you play Monk for the first time, or do not have the Rainworld: Downpore included, then the Slugcat tree ending will not be avalable.
@@Voreoptera Last I checked, the only canon Ascension ending is the Saint's. Not having Downpour just means you're missing some of the slugcats' true endings.

23:14 slugpups actually have food prefrences depending on their personality. you find out which ones they like and dislike by watching their reaction when eating it for the first time.
also you can give them commands to stay in place, follow you, or play with you
being a mother of two is not a challenge, its a necessity the moment you finish gourmands food quest

Fun fact: you can communicate with slugpups and tell them stuff. Like if you crouch and jump. They will stay where they are until you grab them. And if you stand still and jump, the slugpups will start playing and messing around

Now that I think of it a “mother” class would be really cool like you start with one pup (of multiple) and you have a higher chance of finding slug pups in each den you can also have infinite pups (idk if infinite pups is normal)
what you throw first depends on which paw the slugcat has the object in - it throws the object in the right paw first. when you hold a kitten by the hand, be guided by the object that you hold in the other hand, since it is impossible to determine by the position of the kitten which hand you are holding it with. to swap items in the hands you need to double-click the "grab" button

Well, Pearl has permanent brain damage caused by rocks to the head, Minty is traumatized for life after being yeeted into danger over and over, yet Skurry is still the second best mom in the entire Rain World... after Gourmand.

Fun Rainworld mod! If you wanna have slugpups, or play with friends in Jolly Co-op, but you don’t want to suffer the sadness that comes with one of them dying, the Revivify mod makes it so that you can revive your slugpups and scug friends
You can do this three times (but it’s configurable) before they are dead-dead
I love the pups so much that I got a mod to have them on all playthroughs. I also got the immortal pups mod.

You can actually tell the pups to stay put. You hit jump while crouching and they should stay put if you do it right
