39 year old prog/fusion player here and I’ve been playing sense i was fifteen. I started figuring out tool by ear within the first couple months and I can’t read a note. Which is why I watch these videos because I never conventionally learned theory and want to know how to explain it to somebody who has (I also watch a ton of Rick Beato now). I didn’t know that I learned theory and time signatures from tool when I was a kid but It did and it makes me extremely happy that there are people teaching this to people of all ages on you tube. Learning Tool teaches you how to play damn near everything and if this is your starting place I assure you it’s a good one.

Just found you and you are now my favourite guitar teacher on CZcams. You're teaching style is great and what I find the best is that you use metal and rock for examples, and that's the kind of music I want to emulate as well.

Thanks for making this man. Its something I didn't think I would need but I do. Lately I've realized I've been focusing so much on my fretting hand that I completely failed to see if my picking hand is doing what its supposed to do. When I really slowed down and tried to understand why my playing sounds off, most of it is just coming from my picking hand and the timing too. This would be a VERY nice exercise to improve my strumming, timing and rhythm. Very much appreciated as always dude. Cheers!

      yeah, dude!
forget scales, better focus on rhythm
it doesnt matter how much you know if you can't play in time
scales will come and go, the only one that matters is minor pentatonic

have to admit i didn't like you at first on the pot video (i just cant listen to tool covers or teacher showing how to, feels like blasphemy)
but man you opened up a portal for me, thank you so much for your work!
when i bought my bass first thing i did was tune to drop d and play power chords of D and G all day
rocking that low D for a "feels like we are in a church" vibe
every one tried to put me down for it, so i went and studied jazz for 2 years (cant say it was a waste of time)
one time at a jam dude gave me his pick and said "try this" and i went crazy with MY ORIGINAL guitar-like technique and one of the guitarist was so jealous he said "we dont need a 3rd guitarist, man" - made me relive that "you play guitar, not bass" trauma from the early days
than i went home and listened to fear inoculum for the first time... tripped my brains out without any drugs and you appeared
finally i embrace my guitary power chords style!
i'll be going through all of your tutorials, you are a godsend dude!
Please do a "how to play like justin chancellor" video, like your Adam Jones one.
We need more bass players to embrace our shadow.

Just want to take a moment to thank you for vids like these. I subbed a long while back because I loved your breakdowns of Tool songs, which were really helpful for a new guitar player like myself. But as I've dug more through your videos, vids like these have really helped provide me some great insight into proper technique and so on. So thank you!

can you make a video about what settings you use on example your amp, guitar, pedals etc.. that way people that learn the songs can be in the same tone as tool cause thats a big deal when playing tool is the tone!
