I bag the 917D2. the only complaint I have is the size of the head. it is enormous. the D3 isn't sized less enough for me to change, so I'm sticking with it. My partners mainly use TM drivers, and I must say the sound from those bombers are better. no "tink", but THUD. All things considered, the golf equipment is way too expensive for the product you are getting. I'll wager that most am's could do just as well with the old school sized drivers. It's not the arrow, but the indian.

I'm a Titleist fanboy. My very first big purchase as a youth was a set of 981 irons from my club when I was 15. Saved up from working at the club all year for them. Titleist has held a special place ever since.

Absolutely love the 2 year cycle over the yearly cycle with every product out there. Gives us more time to use the best product without feeling like something newer is out there, but also gives them more time to research and work on the product to make it even better and noticeably different.

I've always found Titleist have superior build quality, not always been a massive fan of some the irons, but driver, fairway, hybrid, build quality is outstanding in comparison to all others, difficult to put into words, they just feel well made, and cosmetically they look good for longer, (if that makes sense)

I play the original TS3 driver. It’s now almost 5 years old. I appreciate that I can go from that to the new TSR3 and only positive changes happen. There’s rarely any offset changes or anything that looks differently on the club. The sound really will be the only noticeable change from an aesthetic standpoint. I appreciate Titleist’s consistency in both timing and club making.

Also 2 years in between drivers makes it more likely for a average golfer to buy a new driver.

The problem is when a product flops. For example the Sim was awesome, Sim2 was abject failure from a performance standpoint.
In some cases the products are largely unchanged other than an aesthetic, if there’s a substantial change in design between generations, have at it. We as consumers can then choose if those changes are worth the investment. I typically keep my drivers 4-5 years. My TSi3 3-wood replaced a 3 wood I had in bag for 8 years. My 5 wood is 4 years old and no plans to replace it since it’s only in the bag infrequently, swapped out for 3 iron depends upon course

I can see the logic of releasing the most pro-friendly submodels of a driver first, and then the more amateur friendly submodels after - because the pro drivers have had the extensive testing and tweaking at that point - but if I were the marketing manager, I'd definitely put that in all the materials I provided to retailers. I.E. "we're releasing the models 2 and 3 right now, we'll have a model 1 and 4 coming out soon, so people who are interested in their characteristics should wait for those." because it not only reduces the resentment that would come from buying an almost right driver shortly before the right driver is released - it actually gives the customers the feeling the brand CARES that you not make that bad purchase.
and as a few others have said, yes, the recreational player or casual competitor should not feel they need to purchase a new driver every time a new driver comes out. wait a few cycles between replacing your driver. the hardcore pros can afford to pay a lot for a little improvement. the rest of us can benefit from having small improvements come out every year, so when we do buy, we have the best available at the time. but even then, a 2 year release cycle is just fine.

Not a huge difference in any area, in my opinion, just the comfort I get from the TM keeps it in my bag.
Not really looking for another driver, but if I were, the fact that it is not obsolete after six months is a huge bonus point, keeps Titleist and Ping at the top of the list to start. I have a left handed Callaway XHot that I really like, but I cannot even find a left handed adapter anymore so that experience leads me away from Callaway.

I went for a driver fitting where they have you hit your current driver and then they just start handing you drivers to hit. They group the results and show you which club you hit the best. I was hoping for the new Ping. I had hit a buddies, I loved the look and the sound and the feel. Ive always liked TaylorMade. My last 3 drivers were Cobra. Never had a Callaway, but damn the cool kids got the jailbreak technology. Titleist never once crossed my mind. I was STUNNED when the only driver I hit longer than my FSpeed was the TSi2. And it was straighter! It may just be my favorite driver I've ever played. Absolutely the most forgiving. But if I wouldve been just buying off the rack, I wouldnt have considered it for a second.

2 year cycles and aesthetics that don’t deviate too much from the previous generation was a big plus when I bought my Mizunos and now, while shopping for woods. Going through a fitting, spending a lot of money on Taylormade or Ping and in a few months you’re not only outdated already, but have clubs that look dated too. Could you imagine just getting Sim2’s at full retail and shortly the Stealth come around…

Love the Titleist wood products. The heads have a great shape, they are solid performers in comparison to TM, Callaway, and Ping. What sets them apart is the adjustability of the hosel that Titleist incorporates.

No need for a driver upgrade for me for another two years.
Gotta hand to Titleist they're probably the few non luxury brand that still do classic driver looks all of its competitor all went high tech looks.

Much prefer the 2-year cycle. Not because it mean you have a current driver for longer - but because there really is only miniscule differences year-on-year.
Martin Borgmeier explained it really well - since the CT (trampoline effect) is restricted to a level which cannot be exceeded, all manufacturers can do is improve forgiveness. Yes some play around with weighting to reduce spin etc.. But overall it's all about making those off-centre hits better.
Give them more time to research and test and maybe the next release will be even better!

    I've been a loyalist since the 975d
I've cheated a couple times with Callaway or TaylorMade and recently Cobra but never for long. I always find my way back to Titleist and wonder why I ever even think about any other drivers. This last affair I had with a Cobra RAD lasted all of two months before I went and sold it and bought a TSi3

The 2 year cycle gets confused by people when talking about certain manufacturers especially Callaway. Their driver also have a 2 year cycle but they have 2 lines a movable weight model and a fixed weight model that are replaced after 2 years in alternate years so people make the mistake that they replace their driver every year. I've got an Epic speed that is still current that came out 2021 replacing the Epic flash launched in 2019 and will be replaced in 2023 their newest driver launched 2022, The Rogue ST replaced the previous Mavrik launched in 2020

Once I find the clubs I like and work for me, I keep for ages. The improvements of new clubs are so marginal that a mid handicapper won’t notice an improvement. Lessons and practice makes a much larger effect on ball striking and scores.

It is bad how fast drivers come out so I think it's great they do one every 2 years. I got cobra SZ and the radspeed came out 4 months later. What's worse with drivers though is how long they take to arrive after a fitting! Currently waited 5 weeks for my callaway and still not arrived. I think I've had sofas off DFS faster

The head is kind of irrelevant now, cor/ dimensions dictate distance. They can improve MOI marginally with each release but ultimately its the correct shaft/ ball combination that gives the greater benefits.

Your poor, admit it, you cant compare that to a TS driver...

    • @stephanjepards8148
      @stephanjepards8148 Před 2 lety

@@marcellmonroe5727 well I didn’t compare anything to a TS Driver in my original post. However if you are interested in my opinion: first both COR and MOI in a driver head are regulated since years, meaning there are legal limits on these factors that cannot be exceeded by any manufacturer or the driver would be illegal for play. Secondly there is a whole bunch of videos from Rick Shiels, Mark Crossfield and James Robinson, to name a few that I consider quality content you tubers, which demonstrate that driver performance over the last 10 years is stagnant. So I am reasonably confident that my driver performs similar to any other driver currently on the market or being released in the future, until equipment regulations change. That being said the X2 Hot Pro is a 440cc head, so I am probably missing out compared to any 460cc head on MOI, but I quite like the look of it.
