  • This weekend lets talk about and really dig into the German Heckler & Koch HK33 military rifle and its semi-auto variants imported into the USA during the preban era.
We will go into the development, military service, civilian use, and ultimate fate of this rifle; paying close attention to the HK 43 & HK 93.
The HK33 was the medium-sized member in H&K's roller lock/delayed family; smaller than the 7.62 NATO G3, and larger than the 9mm MP5. It was designed for the .223 Rem round (later 5.56 NATO) and was primarily for export.
In 1974, the first semi-auto version was imported into the USA as the HK43, but was quickly replaced by the HK93. This model was available for several years, until an executive order from President Bush stopped importation of 'assault weapons' in March of 1989.

A Century Arms C93 is what started my love of roller delays. Followed by a C308, L, LC and LV/S.

The HK HK33 is one of my most favorite guns because this is essentially the Western NATO’s black synthetic Kalashnikov AK and the HK33 being the true modernized version of the WW2 MP44 according to Mr. Brandon Herrera.

Im not an AR guy at all, but I dont see the point of the hk in 5.56.... if you wanna shoot 5.56 or .223, get an AR. Credit is given where credit is due. The AR is the finest tuned and best rifle you will get to shoot 5.56/.223

Got my HK93A2 in 1981. Still have it. Dead reliable. Never jams.

I’m from Thailand, HK33s are now being replaced by M16/M4 but HK33 still in service in some branches of the armed forces and some other departments. I’m a cop and we use M1 garand as a drill gun and also HK33, though we actually have M4 as a standard issue but many people in the armed forces still love HK33 including me, especially the slap😂

I have a Century C93, which I had ceracoted black, so it would appear more like an HK93. Excellent gun. Eats everything. Loved the C93 so much, that I bought a brand new PTR 91FR. Can’t afford the real things, but my clones are great substitutes.

It would have been cool if a pistol version of the 53 had been done back then but as soon as the feds started using pistols with rifle calibers as an excuse to ban ammo it put a chill on any idea of 'larger' pistols. Of the 3 calibers, 91(308/7.62), 93(223/556) and 94(9mm), the 9 millimeters were the fun ones, SP89 included. The registered auto sears were also cheap back in the day. If I'd only known then how those would skyrocket in value. I thought the Vollmer 51B's were the coolest things back then. Especially when held by a hottie in a calendar.

Used by Malaysian army before replaced to M16.. Good gun but always exp a stopage in burst mode, usually after 10 - 15. Also not very suitable in malaysian jungle enviroment

Based on the looks and overall design layout of the HK33, it’s a beautiful / sexy looking gun.

HK also moved the 2 holes that hold the take down pins from horizontal position on sling plate. The pins are captured in the vertical position located near the thickened butt stock cap also on that 1980 change. These HK 93's are great to shoot when they have timney 2 pound 2 stage triggers installed and some modern Magpul, BT and optic upgrades to reduce the weight a bit.

I owned a C93 and sold it, then deeply regretting that poor choice I jumped at the chance when I saw a C93 for sale, spent 3/4 of my paycheck (not much, $850).

Footnote on the LC not being able to fire rifle grenades. Spain did make an adapter for the LC that allowed it to fire standard hand grenades. I don’t know how widespread it was used. But it is mentioned and shown in the original LC users manual.

The 40 round mags were to be used in conjunction with the machine gun bipod. The machine gun bipod and slimline forend are unicorns now. 93's are a great collectable due to volume vs 91's. Hell, bayonets are 3-500 and the last 22lr conversion kit I saw listed was over 2500bux. Another great video, BTW!

  • @brettbreza8815

Love this video building some kits now I have to add a 33 vary cool

The 93 is one of my favorite Cold War rifles. It doesn't have a lot of military service and it's not the nicest shooter ever, but it just looks so badass. One day I want to get a second one and chop the barrel down to K length.

My 53 and 43 SBR's are two of my favorite. The 53 in full auto with the flash hider removed is a great flashbang.

  • @MutheiM_Marz

It was my service rifle, in a package was bayonet, scope and bipod. But we only issued with bayonet and 40 rnd mag. It was replacing G3. Domestic produced from licence HK33A2.
