    Man I love the L1011. Used to fly them a lot on Delta back in the days. The spooling sound above your head from that 3rd engine was so distince. Plus the 2-5-2 seats were great sonce i always managed to avoid the middle section seats. Sad it's gone!

    I had the privilege and honor of flying in a L-1011 in 1998 from Toronto Canada to Athens Greece onboard Air Transat... Probably my most memorable flight... That sounds and that awesome cruising speed! ... I've done that flight countless times and that L1011 still holds the record at 8 hours 54 minutes. The L1011 symbolized the golden era of flying, when flying held a certain prestige when every seat was cushioned for total comfort and had an ashtray and the airline food was actually good, because we lived in better times.... Seems like planes are getting slower and alot more uncomfortable with these transit bus style seats, all they care about is profits. Make the seats smaller, less leg room, jam as many seats into an aircraft as possible, charge an arm and a leg for baggage, serve disgusting barely eatable food, charge extra for drinks and then fly slow... There was a time people hoped their flights were longer because they enjoyed being on the plane... Now people can't wait to get off the plane.... How sad.

    Thank you for sharing this. The sound of the RB-211 on the Tri-Stars was my favorite when working the Delta Ramp at KDEN back in the 90s. FYI I can tell that was a very tired APU trying to start that engine. The startup of the RB-211s with a good APU or air starter is significantly much quicker. This was also reflected when they tried to start the engines for the ferry flight, as you can see in those videos.

      It looks like delamination to me. It usually starts in a corner, as seen on the F/O windshield. This might explain why the airplane is no longer flying. Lockheed is most likely not making parts for L-1011 anymore.

    • @justforever96
      @justforever96 Před 3 lety +1

      What the hell do you think the difference is? You think that ear muffs are somehow magically more effective than blocking your ears with your fingers because they are _designed_ for the job, and you, like, buy them in a _store_ , dude? You can achieve almost complete sound impulse blockage by plugging your ears, and very few ear muffs come close to that level of protection. For very loud noises they recommend ear plugs under your muffs, because neither one completely stops sound. But you can effectively block out all noise by plugging your ears with your fingers, because you can press them in good and tight and seal off the entire channel, not to mention that it is a solid cylinder of flesh and bone instead of a little scrap of foam or rubber. The reason most people use muffs or plugs instead is because using your fingers makes it awkward to do anything _else_ at the same time.

      @@appomattoxross6751 If what you are doing requires the use of hands, that is what ear plugs are for. If you only have to run up and look at something for a moment, your fingers are perfectly effective. That was the entire gist of my comment. it is not like ear plugs magically block your ears better, so you must take the time to insert them whenever you walk near a loud machine, whether it is for two seconds or two minutes, whether you need your hands or no.
