      Purposeless Rabbitholes great video man, I do agree with all I your critiques. Just yesterday I was able to swing all the way from one side of the city to the other by just using R2 and X with my eyes closed. A bit more control would be great. Oh and side note, the Web Zip as always been called a web zip, same thing with the Web Jump that shoots you upwards.

      Cozbinot hmmmm.
      Well, I always start with an outline for my scripts, and go from there. Having a structure pre-prepared before the actual writing starts really helps me.
      I also write jokes outside of the scripts, like I’ll come up with something funny and then retroactively find a way to work it into a point I’ve already made/plan to make in the script.
      When writing, I try to keep things as concise as possible, to get the point across in as few words as I can to keep things straightforward.
      The real big thing is, just be yourself. Finding your own style in terms of writing and editing can take quite a while, but it’ll all come together if you keep at it! The people who succeed are the people who just don’t stop.

    I would like to mention that I love the small details in things. For example, when Spidey is web-swinging through the city and he's on the phone, Yuri will say his lines like he's running, taking heavier breathes to converse and if your sitting still he talks normally. I think that's amazing.... Spectacular even.

      I really loved that as well. It's the little things that make such a big difference.
      Getting a little off topic, but one of my favorite small details I love talking about was in Far Cry 3. When you crouched and walked into a wall, your character would point the gun up so it wouldn't glitch into the wall itself. This was my first time really appreciating something that didn't change the gameplay, but made such a big difference to me as a player.

    *I D E A:* In the sequel, Miles is the more stealthy Spider-Man, and has the cloaking option alongside a venom-blast takedown. To compensate, he's not quite as powerful in regular combat.
    Meanwhile Peter isn't nearly as effective in stealth situations but is better for just running in and beating the shit out of everything.

      Probably have Peter have more gadgets too, while Miles has the Camouflage and Venom Blast as you mentioned, (Venom Blast could probably sub out the electric webs too after some upgrades). Although, while Miles has less gadgets than Peter, he should have some gadgets unique to him. It's like the difference between Batman and Robin in the Arkham games, except that unlike Robin, Miles has slightly even less gadgets than the mentor.

      And Peter has less combat upgrades because he's been doing this longer and his combat looks like more of a martial art and miles has more upgrades and some moves are talored to the story so it can feel like he's actually learning them and his combat looks clunky and more like a street fight or something but as he learns it gets more refined

      i got so fucking bored of the sleath sections with them that by the time i got to the tazer one i just decided to not taze people. The game doesn't let you finish if you don't tho ;-;. Don't mean to advertise, don't really have a reason to, but it's on my channel if ur curious

    Here is a comment I found earlier
    "Features wish list for a sequel:
    Traversal:
    Honestly, you hit the nail on the head with the freedom bit. Since their focus was on accessibility, I’d prefer to see these in a separate "complex swinging" option à la Spider-Man 2.
    -Allow Spidey to touch the ground while swinging
    -Double-handed web-zip by holding X instead of tapping(which launches you further but uses both web-zips)
    -Upwards web-zip perhaps by tapping X with no directional input
    -No line breaking if you hold R2
    -No auto-swinging
    -Give wall-crawling its own button(as well as better, more responsive wall- crawling)
    -Wall clings and rebounds
    -Consistent momentum physics(specifically, I mean that entering some animations causes you to lose momentum since they can start playing at a preset speed not always consistent with your momentum, thus feeling unnatural)
    -Allow running down walls
    -Classic pole swinging
    -More tricks
    -Higher speed cap
    -Allow the charge jump to hold(and release) a charge while in the middle of the parkour and perching animations
    -Option for fall damage
    -Charged jump while perched.
    Extras and gimmicks:
    -Hang enemies off street lamps
    -Web attach to a helicopter going to Ellis Island
    -Create a web hammock and lay in it
    -Web attach to the back of a speedboat and skid across the water -Enter Peter's apartment whenever
    -Allow Spidey to pet a dog
    -Allow you to change the weather effects(This may be already coming)
    -Option to set the crimes frequency via a slider(sometimes you just want to swing without any alerts popping up)
    Side Activities:
    While the crimes were great, I also personally wanted to see some inconsequential interactions with the world, small stuff that gives a bit of charm to the world(that don't involve using fists)
    -Rescue a cat from a tree
    -Help up a fallen elderly person off the ground
    -Rescue a floating balloon for a kid(that tests how quickly you can gain height, not speed)
    -Donate to the homeless
    -Stop a purse snatcher
    -Simply sit down on a bench or fire escape and chill
    -Grab a quick hot dog or from a hot dog stand or a drink from a diner or coffee shop(like in Mafia 2)
    -Rarely rescue someone from a burning building, with firefighters just arrived on the scene(so you can justify that they'll take care of it if you skip it)
    -Rarely bring someone directly to the hospital from a car crash or injury/ collateral damage, with ambulances already heading to the scene
    -Very rarely rescue civilians from sinking boats with rescue boats already heading to the scene
    -More web swinging races and an option to submit scores to a leaderboard for them
    -Ability to create your own drone challenges and race them!
    Combat:
    -More combat finishers
    -Double (non-heavy)enemy finishers(using 2 focus bars)
    -Allow slight camera control during finishers to begin targeting next enemy -Web of Shadows AOE swing kick(Would love to knock criminals down like bowling pins again)
    -Endless wave mode for the combat challenges and hideouts(with optional leaderboard)
    -Slightly more responsive gadget wheel(remove the half-second delay) -Use left/right D-Pads for gadgets
    -Allow you to complete the hideouts with stealth only
    -More interesting and fleshed out stealth mechanics
    Suits:

    General:
    -In-game Photo Mode gallery
    -In-game Cutscene gallery
    -Assassin's Creed Origin style "see other people's photos on your world map and can vote on the photo of the day".
    -Fallout 76 style "see other photos from other players in your game's loading screens and fast travel areas".
    -Option to turn off the recurring Control Hints
    -Option to turn off Lens Flare"

      I'll tell you, spider-man ps5 needs to have fall damage and an overkill speed cap. Diving off of the empire state building should feel terrifying, as is it's one of the most boring things. You can't die if you fall and you go instantly from 55mph down to like 12mph when you begin to swing out of a dive.

    I definitely enjoyed the MJ and Miles sections on my.first playthrough since I didn't know anything how the story would go and I loved especially the Osborn apartment exploration. But on my second and third ng+ playthroughs, I really wish Insomniac would add a skip option on these sections while playing ng+.

    so glad you criticised the swinging honestly. Everything you mentioned is what i had issues with when playing except another issue i find annoying is how when you connect to a building at nearly a right angle you just swing straight instead of being pulled towards the building through gravity but your basic critique of having the swinging require much more manual input i have to agree with 100%

    As far as Mary Jane and Miles, I appreciated the moments for their story value, but they're not great mechanically. As for Aunt May, I think it was a good idea to kill her off. It solidifies Peter's transition to fully independent adult. The editor's denial of Peter growing up in comics (to the extent that Peter basically betrays his own personal motto "With Great Power, blah blah") is why the "One New Day" comic was such a fucking travesty.
    Also, more manual control for Spidey is really needed. I don't like the swings automatically letting go of the webline; I would like a little more control with web zips as explained here; and the charged jump, while welcome, isn't all that viable when moving. Plus, that weird sort of "you can't touch the ground while swinging" thing ruins momentum and lowers the skill ceiling.

      Auto release, course correction, weird train physics (when you jump on top of a moving train you always land back in the same place, yes even charged jumps, wtf?) You cant walk up fire escapes, weird physics defying glitch where spidey will keep rising slowly whilst hanging on a web if you hold r2 long enough, there's more but honestly I might end up making a video about it because there's a lot overlooked about the game mechsnics that could use serious tweaking.

      @@cxx23 no i mean you can full charge jump at the very back of the moving train and land back in the same exact place, it's magnetized or something, try it for yourself, only thing I haven't tried is using the slow-motion suit power after jumping to see if it'll still be magnetized.

    i think someone (i can't remember who) said something about aunt may's death sort of being a foil to uncle bens? peter is faced with another selfless vs selfish decision, except this time he knows the consequences that will lead with either choice. before, he didn't have to seriously mull it over sorta, it was one of those heat of the moment things just letting that guy go. but now, if he chooses the selfish choice of using the serum to save aunt may, the rest of the infected will die (since they needed time to clone it or something). i think it's kinda smart

      It’s also a direct parallel and rebuttal to the One More Day comic book storyline, where Aunt May is shot by an assassin, and despite everyone (including May herself, via a visit to the astral plain), tell him to let her go, he sells his marriage to the Devil to save her. (It’s even heavily implied she would have got to see Ben again.)

    Great review, the best i've seen out there. You've addressed almost all of my gripes with the game. But i'd like to add a few more stuffs.
    For the combat, i say give me the hotkeys like Batman. I want to wreck shit up without having to open up a menu. The dpad is good too, but i would have to take me thumb off of the left joystick which isn't ideal.
    For the swinging, i think some transition animations between swinging and running up walls would be nice. It looks off when Spidey is swinging and immediately running on wall. Some additional moves from old Spidey games as well: backflip when running on walls, running down a building instead of jumping off of it (WoS), sliding on walls (WOS).
    That's being said, i want a more physics based web swinging. I should be swinging blindingly fast after diving off the Avenger tower. And there should be fail states in the swinging just like the combat (Fall damage, bumping into building, ...). I want something that is hard to master just like the combat.
    But if i can't have that then please throw me more TaskMaster challenges because i love them so much. I love putting my swinging and combat skills to the test.

    You are definitely on the right track about the improvments. My favorite Spider-Man pose HARDLY ever gets animated and it made taking screenshots (you know, to send to friends and the person who gifted me the game as a "Thank You") a complete pain in the ass. It's the one where the "webslinged" arm is under the crotch, two legs just sprawled out in front and the back hand ready to fire another thwip. Huge bummer on my end. But really the advanced swinging is something Insomniac MUST try. They love their traversal mechanics, so I challenge them to go balls to the wall with it. I recently also watched Far From Home and would have loved to see boss fights more akin to the actions in the film and even the game does this a lot too in cinematics, it's when the webshooter is set to more of a "spray" and just coats a tree or a building to net something. Would be cool to activate this to disarm missiles or catch debris because honestly throwing grenades and military rockets back at thugs kinda made me think "oh so it's not as "realistic" as I thought". I just want them to pick a lane. Also another improvement I'd like to see which might surprise readers is "build a suit". Peter is smart to make his own designs. Don't like to me webhead fans, you tried to make your own custom Spider-Man concept art just like Toby's character in the Sam Rami films. I'd love to see Spider-Man take a challenge where he needs to constantly improve upon his suit. Obviously you can play the game fully AND with ease with the classic designs, but you already see this "build a suit" in game by swapping powers with costumes. It would be killer to have a variety of heads, torsos, legs, webshooters, and features that offer me a unique Spidey to call my own. How cool would it be to mix and match what you want and more powers? I'd love to have the "web wings" paired with the Iron Spider arms (which help with traversal) but yet keep a more toned down design. Again these are things that I feel Peter has full capability of and Insomniac can totally deliver and part of the Spidey-Experience is almost akin to Batman or Iron Man, suit upgrading. They did it with the Anti-Oct Armor, would love to make my own.

    I got waaaaaayyyy too good at this. After a week I was taking on entire outposts in open combat on the hardest difficulty. Usually when you get so good at a game it's because it's easy. Or you'll have gotten bored. But it stayed super fun and challenging.

    33:00 Just saying. Web of Shadows Swinging was just too good not to replicate and refine. The amount of details and variety on offer need to be siphoned to other shit. So you are right on point for that. So here are my thoughts that 100% aren't just me saying do Web of Shadows.
    1: These webs hold no varied momentum. I need to be able to WINDMILL around the corner of a building to slingshot my ass back the way I came if I have the skill to do so. As it is now I feel like I'm constantly at Slow Speed or Normal Speed. At this point it's faster for me to get across the city using Point Jumps instead of Web Swinging. That shouldn't be right. I feel like Point Jumps are supposed to be the momentum carrier. They hold your speed for the next swing. Maybe they slow you down a bit so you are baited to get that speed back through swinging. But right now web swinging is a punishment for not landing the next Point Jump. I wouldn't feel like that if Web Swinging was so fluid that it beats Point Jump 9 times out of 10.
    2: These animations are stiff. And there aren't enough of them. I need at least 10 different ways that Spidey swings around a corner. Another 15 for my web release. Basically the moves that they expect you to use OFTEN need some flair sprinkled on. All the dynamic poses that Spider-man has in the comics should show themselves here imo. I have a shitty background in 3D Art and I've fiddled with animation. A team working on this really have no excuse not dedicating 25 frames of work and some interpolation for animation variations. They aren't doing it from scratch. They are moving joints around and keying the frame. Could probably do 2 every day with correct reference just with 1 person and a good rig. Back to stiff animation tho. They don't convey movement well enough. I can't tell if it's the swing arcs of this game. It kinda looks like he's just letting the web take him from the beginning to the end of the swing. Instead of using his legs to cut through the air in the traditional fashion we are used to. Imagine a kid on a swing. They move their fuckin legs to create motion and maintain it. I know the game wants real but come on now. No reason to be the image of some guy desperately hanging onto a rope dangling over a chasm. This is a mature and seasoned spider-man. Show it off!
    3: It just feels sticky at times. Idk I like being able to run on the ground while still having the web in my hand. I like running on the walls while still webbing. If I wanted to stop I'd let go of R2. This is just a control nitpick so it's not that big of a deal (SuckingWebOfShadowsCockHardOnThatOne.png)

    Great in game analysis. Here’s an idea that I think Insomniac should explore concerning the open world; do what Ultimate Spider-Man did and have us go to the other boroughs. Like let us climb a Farris wheel in Coney Island, swing past Steve Roger’s place in Brooklyn, or raid Wilson Fisk’s mansion on Staten Island. Just an idea and just throwing it out there

    I personally loved the swinging mechanic. I would sometimes turn on the game just to swing around the city. It felt so fluid and satisfying. That being said, I like the nitpicks you brought up. There were only a few moments where I was getting frustrated with the swinging (aka stupid drone challenges), but besides that I loved it! I would love to see it improved in the next game, though. Even just a little.

    Good to see that, just as in that Prototype video I watched earlier, you really went in detail with the traversal. I pretty much agree with every single one of your points, and I also believe that giving players a casual and an advanced option should be a must, to keep it accessible, and at the same time let us relive the joys of good ol' Spider-Man 2.
    One small thing by the way.. I personally actually prefer having to press a specific wallrun/-crawl button to initiate a wallrun instead of just holding the trigger and smacking against a wall with him attaching to it all by himself. it sometimes happens even though you don't want it, which can be annoying. Also charged jumping up the sides of buildings and having wallrunning be affected by gravity and momentum should return. WoS fails at that too, where Spidey had awesome wallrun animations, but pretty much just always stayed the same speed throughout . guess it was required for the wall combat to be that way.

    Okay, so you talking about a Symbiote takeover in NYC really got me thinking about Carnage USA and how that story went. Imagine the Avengers taken over and used by the symbiote? Imagine having to take back Burroughs from the parasite one at a time. That would be some awesome gameplay.

      If you haven’t played Web of Shadows, you totally should. Main plot of the game is Venom spreading the symbiote like a plague through New York, something like what you’re describing. Wolverine, Electro, Vulture and I think a couple other randos get taken over and you get to fight crazy symbiote versions of them. It’s a fun ride

    Just now finding this video and your channel, great stuff so far! Let me say as well that a lot of the stealth aspects you talk about (haven't finished the video yet) are actually fixed in Miles Morales. You can do bases in full stealth, Miles has invisibility (although a tad op), and the remote mine is a more stealth-focused gadget than any other one

    The issue I had with the swinging is mastery never amounted to much speed. It felt like no matter how good I got at the system speed never really came with it. I do have to disagree with the automation to some point. I felt that utilizing point launches and then going immediately into a swing and then into another point launch and alternating with that really made me go a lot faster and made me think of where I am going to point launch, and how I'm going to do it. Great video with the nobody saying anything bad about the swinging system I'm glad I saw some legitimate criticism about the system. I still think this is the best swinging system in any spiderman game.

    There needs to be air combat to a high-level. You shouldn’t feel like a brick you throw in the air you should feel like a bird can fly, maneuver and fight in the air. There should also be wall combat kind of like in Spiderman web of shadows But better not as fast same thing with air combat although that was damn near perfect. This is what I would add to your video I agree with most of the stuff you said.

    The improvements I want in web swinging is a button to go directly up. Every Spidey game has that except this one. During the web swinging, when you do a web zip, almost hit the ground and go into a swing and a few other instances, Spidey abruptly stops for a small bit and its not very fluid. I think that's the problem you had about the web swinging being a little faster. So if those can be fixed I think the web swinging can be super smooth.

    *About Web Swinging*
    hi, fellow prototype fan here. Just wanted to say that having a charged jump that's not cancelled by other traversal animations would be the simplest solution to the lack of vertical correction while web swinging. of course, it wouldn't be the same as a web dash straight up but it would definetely help make the whole thing feel fluid. Also advanced web swinging?... Yes!
    P.S
    Also, perhaps the best way to fix the web swinging to running transition is to give the running input a higher priority when close to the ground. Basically, have an intermediate height between the two where if you were swinging you'll finish the swing, but if you let go and press the swing button it would allow you to run. Maybe that'd break the flow of swinging, not really sure, just an idea.

    Biggest problem I have: the wall crawling is awful it’s unresponsive Spider-Man gets stuck on basically any ridge(slight exaggeration). It feels like a guy with duck tape on his hands trying to climb.

    To talk about the questions about Li. I think Martin was already infected with the "Demon" and his parents were so scared of losing him to it that they seeked Devil's Breath to try and cure the Negative energy, only to end up making it worse.
    Venom is probably his own seperate thing apart from the fact Norman made GR-27 to either kill him or detach him from Harry.

    When I played Spiderman on the PS4 I was worried that the only direction they could go would be story based. I was afraid the next game would release and all the critics would say "It's fine but they didn't do much to improve on the mechanics at all". I had no idea what they could really do to make the game better because it's already so great but thanks to you, I have a list of things I wanna see in the sequel. Despite the fact that these are nitpicks, you've provided a pretty solid list of feasible improvements that would help make the game feel so much better and you wouldn't even notice.     Ik it's been years but I'll answer honestly. I really think what you proposed for Web Swinging is perfect. If Insomniac is going to go for a more accessible approach, it shouldn't be at the expense of players who don't want that. I think this is an area Remedy got right in Control. Miles Morales was a step in the right direction but I feel it was too tacked on so I just went back to the hand holdy swinging just so it wouldn't annoy me.

    Honestly, I love the web swinging in this game. I almost never use the fast travel because the swinging feels sooo good to do and is just fun for me. It could definitely be a bit faster and have more Animations but I don't really want Web of Shadows levels of speed and cartoony swinging in the insomniac Spider-Man games because it doesn't really fit the tone of the games. I'm not saying that it's bad I just think it has it's place. I think the reason why I loved the swinging so much is because it felt so realistic (as real as the idea of swinging your own webs through the streets of New York can really be). The automatic release is something that I can see would annoy others but I like how it somewhat keeps your momentum going in the early game when you're still getting the rhythm down and can still be used for precision landings once you get to grips with it.
    I did miss charged releases for the first couple of hours but once I got into the rhythm of swinging, I didn't really think about it anymore.
    Fair nitpicks about the webswinging, they just didn't impact me all that much. I honestly wouldn't mind if they made minimal changes to the dynamic outside of a couple of small little adjustments because it was just so fun and I legit just swung around the map for 2 hours after popping the Platinum trophy

    better. honestly I loved Web of shadows for the combat and web swinging better then the other games. I love PS4's spider-man but it's areal combat was to dumbed down from what you could do in Web of Shadows. The fucking maneuvers in that game was ridiculous, and the web-swinging stuff you mention I had thought about during the game as well. Not all of it but a lot of it. I wanted it to be a little bit faster with the low point release, especially since the devs said in interviews that's how it was supposed to work. The animations for executions and web swinging do need to be expanded.

      Yuuuupp. I'm with you on pretty much all that. I'm not a scientist or anything, but I'm 90% sure the low point of a swing is the fastest point, and occasionally it didn't feel like physics were functioning correctly

    I really do hope the sequels expand on the sidequests. Mostly because I'd love more villains to show up without having to cram in another Sinister Six. All we really got was Tombstone which was great and Screwball which was fun... In the DLC but I barely remember what happened in the base game.
    I remember when the game first started Peter gets a call from Otto and it's listed as unknown because Doc Ock being in the game is a secret. So I immedietly thought Peter had the classic lab assistant job to Kurt Connors, and maybe we'd get a moment where Connors' lab is all fucked up and destroyed and Peter has to some investigating to find out what happened to the lab and Connors and we get the reveal he's become the Lizard and we get a mini boss fight before he either turns back to normal or runs off to play a bigger role in the next game. Somewhat similar to the Manbat side quest in Arkham Knight. Stuff like that is what I wanna see with Spidey's super big and fun cast of villains.

    This game wasn't that great to me at least, for a 2018 game i was expecting a lot more. Hopefully when, IF a new spiderman game comes out by insomniac it will have a more in depth combat system maybe even black suit where you can switch between...

    BJSHDVDHHS I JUST REALIZED THAT the five versions of devils breath might be the five venoms from the comics and venom is the GR 33 that hasn’t been named because of the unveiling of the GR-27, Norman probably didn’t want anything to be found out. The five venoms might have been temporary fixes for Harry’s disease.

    So I was downloading the game before I stumbled across your channel. And I saw this but I figured I'd wait to watch it so I could experience the game for myself. This game is amazing. I've had it for 2 days and I got platinum on ps4.
    Edit:just remembered that ps5 spiderman is gonna be Miles.
