- Who is Juninho, and how good was he? Juninho Pernambucano was one of the greatest free kick takers of all time, mastering and making "knuckleballs" famous. He played for Vasco de Gama, Olympique Lyon, New York Red Bulls, and Al-Gharafa. He scored some incredible free kicks for Brazil and in all competitions, such as the champions leauge and the European league. I think we all wanted to shoot the football like Juninho growing up, now lets once again get some inspiration from the man himself. Thanks for watching, and subscribe if you enjoyed the video.
Who should I do next? Who deserves a football film? - Sport
The fact that even Pirlo himself asked Juno for help taking free kicks tells you everything.. best freekick taker in the history
Juninho's Lyon was unstoppable. They were even more dominant than PSG nowadays
7 consecutive ligue 1 championships without the deep pockets of a billionaire owner.
@@luisitoviii1090 dat's korekt.👍
Korekt!👍
That's not true - 3 or 4 of 7 titles were couple points close. PSG is not winning 7 in a row but they are way better than rest of the teams. Lyon buy record is 25 mln euros - set on after the 7 titles. Lyon was good scouting psg is big spending. Lyon is now not in title battle be cause its no longer have good scouts.
Lyon had great scouts at that time. They brought the likes of Abidal, Essien, Ben Arfa, Benzema, Pjanic, Lloris, Lovren, Lacazette, Tiago Mendes, Malouda
One of my all time favorite football players of all time! One of the most underrated player to have ever seen the pitch. This guy single-handedly made Lyon 7 times champions.
Lyon and Juninho drove fear to the entire Ligue 1 field back then. Much to my dread as a Marseille fan, but boy do I admire Lyon's show of dominance back then.
Just to put into perspective, how insanely stacked and absurd the 2002-2006 brazilian national teams were, a guy like Juninho couldnt be a starter because there was even bigger legends all the time. Even the 3rd GK Rogerio Ceni, in the 2002 wc, could be subbed in and score a beautiful free kick, thats insane. Not to mention 4 balon dor winners in the time period: Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka and Rivaldo (only in 2002).
golden generation indeed
Mind blowing generation
Actually insane!
Brazil still produces world class players that could be called a golden generation. However, the game has become so much more tactical that I would argue the golden generation would struggle today.
In fact, Kaka didn't play a role in 2002 wc and 2006, when modern football started to transform, without rivaldo, Brazil's creativity was lack luster.
@@t3ss33 No Dud....what's happening is that those players (specially the atacker ones) of today miss a lot of their oportunities. The players of the past barely missed their chances....If the Brazilian atackers of 2022 Qatar World Cup were just 40% efficient Brazil would have won that....but these new kiddos (especially Vini Jr and Raphinha) do miss A LOT of chances. Pick the wining teams of Brazil in 1994 and 2002...Those guys barely missed the few chances they got.
There was more to Juni than free kicks. The way he dribbled, organise the play, led the team and he never lost the ball. The only way to get the ball off his feet was to foul him.
Agree, this man did it all!
And we know the dangers of fouling him...
Indeed mate , i would say noticing how he almost never lost the ball in every match i watched him play was something of astonishment to me every time , great player
Not better than messi
@@7osam88 that was part of the reason Lyon was so feared, opposite players couldn’t foul Lyon players anywhere near 40 meters from the goal, because they knew it was like a penalty for Juninho, so that never tried to tackle our players too hard, especially Juni. And we all know Juni to make the opponents foul him. I’m not saying he dove but he would place his legs were the opponent tripped it.
Me and all of Vasco da Gama supporters miss Juninho a lot, he was a Real King, our little king
They’re times when ppl forget how amazing this man was and it was only because other players played for bigger clubs that did really get him the looks needed . His free kicks were like no other
P0
Agree 100% Ramon
Cheers from Brazil man, Juninho was a beast on free kicks, today we don't have players like him to free kicks.
Last one was probaly David Luiz, he also had some knuckleball skill!
@@xVendo oh, Rogerio Ceni was a great Goalkeeper with the free kicks too, the Goalkeeper with most goals in the history of football
@@xVendo its not bout amount its bout technique. Add Branco Ibrahim Vaz Leal, Zico, Zola, Mihajlovic, Rivaldo, Piksi Stojkovic, best free kickers ever.
@@xVendo naaah, last one was Pirlo,
James Ward Prowse isn’t so bad too 🤷🏼♂️
As Real Madrid fan i always remember that champion's elimination by Lyon. This guy took a freekick very far from big area and did a incredible goal to Casillas. This guy is a legend.
Best free kick taker ever. Nobody comes even close to him and I mean nobody.
This man was insanely dangerous with his accuracy 🎯
For sure!
He could hit the ball in so many different ways, a true dead ball specialist
I remember watching Lyon just to see him play. I would hope Lyon would win a free kick. But as some have said he was class in many other ways. You had to be special to brake into the Brazil first 11, and he was.
One of The best to ever grace the game!
4:55 That free kick was just out of this world... Almost looks edited...Juninho was a brilliant all-rounder player, shot technique was on 100...
As a Madrid fan, who suffered Olympique Lyon during its golden years, I have the uttermost respect for Juninho
Deeply sorry for the wrong pronounciation, guys. I am well aware now That Juninho is pronounced with a normal «J», and i will make sure the narrator gets the names right in future videos. Did not know That the video was gonna blow up this much, as i do this just for fun. I sadly can’t update the video with a new audio, best i can do is upload an alternate version If that’s wanted. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching my first project.
You could pin this comment at the top, because I commented about the pronunciation before reading this.
Juninho is one of the goats for real. I've been looking for dope video like this one about him for a while and you killed it. Really hope you make more videos you're gonna get noticed for sure.
Thanks my guy! Agreed, Juninho really is one of my favorites!
Saw him play against Rangers in the CL. Ended up hitting the bar from a freekick just before halftime 😱
Great player!
For a channel with less than 500 subs, the quality of the video is most impressive. Very well done, sir.
This guy was a very good footballer and without question the most unreal free kick taker I've ever seen.
I have not seen a better free kick taker in my lifetime
I had kind of forgotten about him, but Remember using him in Fifa a lot back in the day and seeing some of his random awesome free kicks in videos when the internet in the mid 2000's.
I forgot just how good he was and now I want to go find more highlights from him. Solid video.
Take a look at Sinisa Mihajlovic.I think he's very underrated especially when talking about freekicks he's on par with Juninho if not even better. The only player in football history to score a HATTRICK of freekicks in 1 game. That's right 3 goals in 1 game all from freekicks.Amazing defender aswell. What a player!
Juninho Pernambucano it's the best Free Kick-Taker of all time, no debate whatsoever. ✌☯️
Agreed!
What about that Japanese guy who played for celtic
@@kenyangooner989 nakamura?
@@kenyangooner989 shunsuke Nakamura was not in the same league as Juninho from a dead ball. He was great but Juninho is unbelievable. You had to be there to know how scary that man was.
@@Runningscared4ever nakamura beat prime van der sar twice from 30 yards . You need to look up nakamura free kicks
There are still people who are under the assumption that Beckham was the best free kick specialist, they cleary haven't watched Juninho matches.
For sure!
Clueless islanders
Sinisa Mihajlovic
Why will anyone compare Juninho to becks or pirlo or Messi or CR7...y'all should go back in time and see Juninho...that match against Barca where he scored that kick that sent Valdéz catching the wind was just lit....Juninho is the best free kick specialist of all time.
Messi is better is just watch the stats lmao, best free kick shooter of all time
This guy is totally different...he is the 🐐 in freekick no doubt
That goal keeper with 61 freekicks should be the 1 that is legend
People nowadays only talk about PSG, before them, there was Juninho and Lyon 10 years of dominance in the Ligue1
Bushon JuninhoSama Marabuto Tokya Ucuki 🔥🔥
Ajinomoto Sodepsos ili Omatores 👍
Incredible video and breakdown of an incredible player. Truly the GOAT of free kicks.
Now, as a Brazilian, one thing that annoyed me a bit was how you pronounced his name. Brazilians don't speak Spanish, we don't say "J" like it's an "R/H", it's not "Huninho", it's "Juninho", with a "normal" J.
Other than that the video is great, keep it up!
For real, such a noob mistake. Every football fan knows it's pronounced like you just said.
@PCELD_but that's how it's pronounced
@PCELD_ the "ju" in juninho is pronounced the same as the "ju" in june.
@PCELD_ And that's exactly how it is supposed to be pronounced.
In Portuguese we pronounce the "J" as "J".
For instance: You say Vinicius Junior, not Vinicius Hunior or Unior
the GOAT of free kicks, from ANY distance !
Messi
@@tojusote4896 Messi isn't better at freekicks than this guy, no chance!!
@@ruddock7 if Messi scores more than 77 then Messi will b better Messi has some insane free kick stats leading in most free kicks scored for 5 or six years at some point, leading entire clubs in free kicks for years scoring 8 free kicks in a season thrice , scoring 10 free kicks in a calendar year, scoring 2 free kicks in one Copa America, scoring free kicks in 3 consecutive matches, but I do know juninho was a free kick whiz , but Messi can beat him with quantity of Messi scores more than 77
As a Brazilian soccer fan, I'd say he was one of the two best free kickers of his generation. The other one you mentioned in the video as being Juninho's inspiration named Marcelinho Carioca.
What about Messi?
Marcos Assunção wasn't bad as well!
This dude is just as amazing as he is sincere ... a rare soccer player
Absolute legend! Awesome vid!
Appreciate it my guy, have a nice day!
Juni is the undisputed goat when it comes to FKs. A unique special talent that we might never see again.
So glad I was born in his era. Love forever to the master.
Goat. The best ever. 🇧🇷
Legend 🖤💯
Best ever free kick taker period!!!
And i grew up on roberto carlos david beckham and many more but this one was pure class and he made it look so easy and effortless
Finally one of my all time favorite players :D
I remember in old pro evolution soccer games if you got a free kick whit him it was like a cheat codes, he was that insane even in video games
This GUY!!!! LEGEND!!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿😁.
Yes, totally one of the best free kick takers and his consistency was astonishing and doing it from crazy angles better than the messis and ronaldos. What he did for Lyon was amazing. Not many such players around anymore.
5:42 I remember watching this free kick... I couldn't even understand what was happening, the ball just floated and got sucked into the net...just crazy stuff
Time for a trip down the memory lane
I remember this guy. He was a beast
Its sad we're living in a generation whereby Leo and cr7 are earning all the accolades... juninho was a football machine not only his wonderful freekicks 🙌♥️🇧🇷
I find it more sad, that there are people clamining Messi and Ronaldo are the best freekicktakers ever... Sure, they are both out of this world players and both amongst the best ever.
But the Goat of freekicks is Juninho, and it doesnt even come close...
@@Soulwhistle Those fanboys are weird kids. They'd even put Messi and Ronaldo as the best defenders if they could.

A side of 11 Messis or Ronaldos would be shit and never win a single trophy, becuase their defence and goalie would be shiet.
Best. Ever. Juninho would get a foul 50 meters from the goal in a match where Lyon was being dominated. Scores the free-kick. Game is completely changed. Saw it too many times. Dude was fearful.
Juninho moved to Vasco in 90s. In 1998 he scored a magnificent freekick goal against River Plate in Argentina on libertadores Cup semi finals. That goal took Vasco to The finals and then became Champions .
Contra o River Plate, sensacional! (Gol de quem?) Gol do Juninho.... MONUMENTAAAAALLLLL

You skipped one of the greats :
Sinisa Mihajlovic (Serbia)
66 Fk’s + 2 direct from corners.
Played mostly Serie A (‘92-‘06)
But you add Legrotaglie who doesn’t even count to be on any such list! He played in the 50’s and much of that was in the 2nd division. There’s no record of his games played or other stats but he said he scored 66 FK’s so it must be true!

The best strategy any manager can give his team against Juninho's team is to avoid fouls anywhere from 45 yards.
I'm not even for Lyon but Juni is my second favorite player of all time after Zidane.
He was a monster, I remember how we want others players make a fault just to see him shoot.
Awesome video..
Keep this kind of analytic Bro.. Hope u will succes..
Thanks bro, glad u liked it!
Him with assunsao from betis were my favorites freekickers ever
Should re-record this. “Who” ninho is brutal. Real hard to get through this.
right, in Portuguese the J is pronounced like the s in "pleasure", "measure", "treasure", "leisure"
when he says who ninho you say Ju ninho
Absolutely, for a video which lionizes the man you ought to at least have the respect to get his name right. We can let Rs like Recife go as most non-Portuguese speakers won’t know that. But not this J.
Sinisa Mihajlovic and Juninho #1
🤙🏻
Coach: alright guys I want y’all to drive
Team: Sure, where at?
Coach: Anywhere, just dive, no one score anything, just dive and give Jinho all free kicks
Check your video before you upload.
Despite some technical mistake, still a great video.
Keep it up.
Thank you for The feedback!
Of his generation??? Surely you mean in the history of football. No player in history can take free kicks like him.
Now this Man along with Beckham, Maradona, Rivaldo, Zico, Stoichkov, Baggio...etc are the Real Freekick Maestros because you know once they lined up for the kick it would be 80% chance it's going to be a GOAL.

One of the GOAT of football, if the world was a stake and we had a free kick given we could choose 1 footballer at their peek throughout human history if you don't choose Juniinho you don't know football
I’ve been waiting for a proper video on Juni, he along with Beckham inspired an obsession for free kicks. He was a magician with the ball and I’d suggest any child who really wants to be a footballer to learn from him. His technique is a cheap code
I was your 1000th subscriber
Ayoo Thanks my guy!
Juninho best freekick taker ever
I remember during the ps2 era, I would choose Lyon solely because of this dude
I was scared when the likes of Beckham,Pirlo,Carlos,Ronaldinho,Messi and Cristiano etc were behind the free kick
But I wasn’t even afraid when this guy was behind the ball because the outcome was obvious 😂 him missing a free kick was reaaally odd
He always played for teams I could cheer (I don't have a favorite team outside Brazil and here he played for my Vasco da Gama), but I can understand how you deal with him in a free kick against you...to me it was a penalty.....LOL
Its simple history of football, freekicks = Juninho.
Those pair of free kicks against Ajaccio were something else. Both from somewhere over the horizon, with the ball appearing tho accelerate more and more, as it travelled toward its target 🎯
It’s Juninho not huninho 😂😂😂
A humble footballer in the midfield.
juninho was a beast back in the day :) so many ligue 1 titles in a row not sure if he won all 7. Legend in French football

Amazing work mate. Hope you make it big.
IMO on Juninho's technical breakdown - would have been nice to learn more on the fundamentals & analysis of his free kick technique. There's pieces on it on on how a free-kick specialist earns the dub, one must be able to to dip, curl, & hit a dead ball knuckle. Marcelinho & Juninho did all 3 - and no one else since then. Maybe James Ward-Prowse comes close in today's time as the most high profile documented that falls in that category but even JWP doesn't hit a nasty knuckle like those greats.
But yeah, love the film!
Glad you enjoyed The video! Thanks for The feedback. I agree, would be fun to find out The mechanics behind The technique! JWP for sure is up there.
Just found your channel. Loving what I am seeing. Subscribing now✨
I recommend you make a video on Tony Adams, who's popularly known as "Mr Arsenal" but is still mainly forgotten by people now.
Keep up the good work great video and music as well , i hope u don't mind me asking for the name of the music if u can , definitely subscribing
Do one for Rogério Ceni, please. He innovated the goalkeeper position. He was insanely good at freekicks, penalties and had a impressive vision of the game. Sometimes he would exit from the goal and do assists too, when the game was being lost or was a draw. He could do a 50 mt pass, and the ball would fall at the feet of the forward next to the other goal.
