I could definitely see that. Film scores probably demand a large quantity of different sounds/samples, and this pad has the versatility to play any of them.
Actually I wrap my sticks up with electric tape so they can last longer. I’ve noticed that my sticks always break up at the top area, so I’ll just let the tape take the hits and then switch it out once it gets chewed up enough
@@JamesRoneyMusic True, but only if I hit the cymbal with the taped part of the stick. I leave the tip untouched so it doesn’t affect the sound. For the taped part, I’ve actually found it more pleasing to the ears to do cymbal rolls and swells versus a normal wooden stick
Yes, this is a great tool to play electronic drums, percussion, or any other sample you would want to load into it. Only caveat is if you’re playing techno and you wanted to loop a drum beat you came up with you would need to purchase a looper pedal separately as this unit doesn’t come with a built-in looper.

Do you put a wrap on the sticks to prevent wear on the top 3 pads? I haven't thought to do that.

@@tomchmura- that effects sound quality on a real set though, as the tape gives the sticks a soft sound on the rides, instead of a bright crisp sound.

You can, but the SPD-SX doesn’t have an internal looper. It would have to be through a pedal or computer (I run mine through a looper pedal)
