  • I show step by step, how I make a leg sheath that holds a machete, folding saw, fixed blade knife and a possible pouch. If sewing bores you, skip to the end of video to see it. My friend Duane makes leather sheaths on the side. You can contact him at LastDitchLeatherworks@AOL.com

    Idea for your plastic liners: before you insert them in the sheath, use an iron and form it around your machete/knife/etc to make it a more custom fit.

    I remember this one. I believe its the very vid that gave me the idea to put the kit together. I couldn't make the setup you did. my wife and I actually purchased the business about 2 weeks prior to this vid. most of our initial work was winter shutdown. that includes loads of tree work. and sadly I believe the previous owner was either overwhelmed or burnt out. we had a lot of cleaning up lots of work that he just never did. hell one property was in such poor shape 1/4 of the owners trees died out before we took over. worked a whole month in an acre lot. anyway bud thanks again and thanks for reminding me who and where I seen this vid. its a great one. God's speed.

    "I'm sick of sewing" :) you're cracking me up! Patience, details and humor, stellar! Sewing, sheet rock, cooking, rock work; it's all just skills - only society puts "gender" into it. Yay, I heard Peeper Frogs at the end. This is very inspiring, when you can't find exactly what's needed, making it is the only way. Alright, getting late here, and I'm gonna watch one more. My body is tired from shoveling snow from the storm we had. Final part of the storm was perfect for Snow Cream, which we don't get every time... was yummy.

    Hi Dave, i could not help but notice that when you made the loops for the leg straps the top one would come up to your front pocket of your jeans, then when you came to show us at the end with it fitted to you it just confirmed that to me, so good idea to leave that one off, as the belt loops would hold it at the top. The sewing machine that I use has a needle like a 4" nail, so no room for error, nice sheath though.

    • @Reallybigmonkey1
      @Reallybigmonkey1  Před 9 lety

      Ray Townson Well, at first I wasnt sure if it would need two straps around the leg but, I did know the further apart they were, the better it would secure to a tree so I just put it up high and was gonna see how it worked out. Im glad you liked it.

    You never cease to amaze me David, your multi tool center is a very good idea. But I just got so use to carry my tool's over the years, for me I find distributing the weight of my tool's work best for me. just for example my Summer Long Knife Set. my Rodent Rucki, my Modde Rodent 6 and a small knife, a Saw and a Hatchet. first of all I like to carry a survival belt, my larger knife or if I go with a 7" blade and a 4" knife, I carry the larger knife on person, just incase I'm somehow seperated from my camp. on my survival belt I have a pouch, my Wicked Tough Saw in a sheath or similar saw, and my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet or similar hatchet on a leather holster that will hold my hatchet, and my canteen and I like a small knife neck carry. My favorite carry that go on my Summer Long Knife Set is my Modde Rodent 6 which I had the blade thinned and the top gaurd taken off and now it look's like a beefy Ratmandu on steriods. my Wicked Tough Saw which is compact and light, and my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet also light and compact, my pouch that I carry fire starters and a little first aid, fishing, etc. stuff and even a small knife if I don't knife carry it. The Rodent Rucki or even my new Summer Long Knife my Parangatang and the Potbelly, just to give my Rucki a rest, I will molle attach it to my backpact or around my sholder. I would love to be as handy as you, but I'm just too invested in my knives that for me it's seems easier to do a balancing act with my tools. but I would love to do what you do, Thanx for another great video.

    • @Reallybigmonkey1
      @Reallybigmonkey1  Před 9 lety

      +paulie 4x You have a lot of good ideas man. I hear ya on spreading out the weight of all your tools. Normally, I only hike with a knife on my belt. I only strap on a machete or tool pouch like this when in camp and building a shelter or setting up a cookset. I like having all the tools handy right by my side. Take care and Thanks for watching Brother.

    • @paulie4x1
      @paulie4x1 Před 7 lety

      Reallybigmonkey1 Say Heah David, Yeah, I like my Lite Mora Trio Carry, my 2000, with Mora Hatchet and Bacho Laplander, This new Trio is a high better quality and robust, but still lite. I addded my 2Hawks Warbeast Tomahawk, and my Wicked Tough Saw, All are American made. Oh, my knife is my LT Wright 3V GNS. I picked a G-10 Handle with a sort of new scallope pattern, I got the Coyote Black Mountain, I think its pretty Kewl., and should match alot of my other tools to match carry them. The beauty of this training is I can carry all three, plus a neck knife on person. If, I decide to add a larger chopper type knife. I could simply attach it to my pack, If, I want to take a larger Hatchet, my back pack has built in areas on the sides for it, Yeah, I also always make room for a possibility pouch, I call my necessities pouch, I either carry on my belt or my pack or on the front strap with my directional compass., Oh, I just got a large Voyager Davly, yeah, it has a rotating bezel but looks like a fairly large pocket watch. But yeah, My 3V GNS is close to a Woodlore profile. That type of blade style allows you to carve with any portion of the blade, The tip ofcouce for making fine curves to inhence the inside of a cooking hanger, and the rest, a straighter ege forms when working wood. Yeah, I used my vintage Blind Horse for that, But I wanted more of a point , But the Kephart was good to dig a hole in wood, But I saw a video where a bushcrafter said he liked a little longer than a 4" blade and a 1/8" thickness, That made sense to me. So that's why to, I got a Saber instead of a Scandi, I like working wood. Not that I'm that good at it. But if I'm going to cut myself, at least I'll do it with something I liked heh heh heh.,,.
