I have a 2016 Fusion Energi and absolutely love it, no problems at all. Yes, the trunk is smaller than a non hybrid but I don't use the trunk so much for it to be an issue. I didn't want a car that "looked" like a hybrid with a "hey look at me". I love how Ford made a hybrid version that looks like all the other Fusions. I didn't get it for attention, I got it to save my pocketbook and save gas!
2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid Se 415,000 miles, replaced rear brakes 3 times, front twice,oil change every 3,000 miles and transmission fluid changed every 100,000 miles. Other than that, it runs and drives fine! With the high miles I am getting nervous, that one day something major will happen. My mechanic says everything looks great! Thinking of getting a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid, but it's so expensive!
@@hdsred7553 Well probably because Ford's idiotic decision to get rid of this car without a good replacement, will lead people to other brands. You're basically pushed towards an Escape, and anyone would pick a Rav4 over an Escape.
I have a 2017 Fusion Energi Platinum with 80K. I keep up with the regular filters and oil changes. Next to do is transmission oil drain and fill. Will probably do a coolant flush, change hoses, and change the thermostat at 100K. On my 3rd set of tires. Overall, my Fusion has been trouble-free. Haven't had any degradation of the battery yet. I am happy to see it can last 200K with minimal repairs.
I would imagine you've had some slight degradation, and it's pretty each to check. For instance, our 2016 has almost 90k on it. It has the 7.6 kwh battery, and since 1.4 is dedicated to the hybrid system, when brand new a full charge would use 5.2kw. However, now, if I do a full charge, and drive it in optimum conditions (70deg, no heat, no ac) until the ice kicks in, it uses right around 4.7-4.8 depending on the test. So, it's lost right around 10% of maximum capacity. That's not too bad for a 6 year old phev with 90k.
A little discussed benefit of hybrids is their ability to potentially reduce wear on the gas engine. Could be higher too depending on driving conditions/varying temps etc but I think for most commuters they can expect 200k now without much issue. They should... Especially given what people are paying for new cars these days, 8 year loans etc
My 2014 Ford Fusion Energi only gets about 8-10 miles on a charge. I punted on the low rolling resistance tires after 4 flats in 18 months. I found a donut spare that fits and keep it in the trunk, leaving no trunk space for anything else. But with 42 MPG, I’ll drive it till it drops.
That's interesting you only had an issue with the speed sensors. Same! I have a 2013 hybrid SE and am at 212k miles and everything is original. Finally had to replace the speed sensors. Backup camera likes to often not turn on. Very annoying. But mechanically it's flawless and if I don't give in to my urge to enjoy its power it sips gas and I have seen trips over 60mpgs, even over 100 one time. My battery hasn't degraded one bit, and that's with it parked outside in the Texas heat all day. Amazing. Running AC full blast and driving in 90+ degree weather using it for Lyft full time, 250 miles a day in mostly highway settings at over 70mph, I am getting over 40mpgs. I used to average about 44 when I babied it.

2015 standard hybrid here... 82k miles. I still get 52MPG in the summer and 43 during the winter (Im by Chicago, so this is averaged out over the season). Its been a great car and the battery only barely has shown signs of aging.
I got the 2015 fusion hybrid. It had 120,000 i got it up too 140,000 now. No problems yet other than what ive done. Im a speeder and i live in Houston so yeah. Now i know how to control the throttle to always keep my battery charged and pretty much full most of the day. Its a zippy lil car, if it was faster i swear id be gunning for a new One. But it doesn't need to be its good for what it is. VERY GOOD ON GAS. Even while speeding. I love the car
You should see my Honda Fit after 336k worth of miles. Still going and still gets 35 mpg. My last car was a 98' Ford Escort Zx2 and punched out 418k miles before the transmission went out. Then again, those cars are not hybrids. Also thanks for this video, its given me a good perspective on how reliable these hybrid Fusions are and how well they hold up.
Amazing overview! I currently sport the 2020 Fusion Hybrid, and I have no complaints about the trunk! I actually enjoy the “shelf” that’s there! Has saved me a few times with grocery shops, putting crashable items on top of the battery, and heavy items on the lower portion of the trunk! But overall, haven’t had any issues currently other than had to replace the front wheel bearings, and all the brakes pads and rotors and new tires! Very reliable car!
Dude, I fit four suitcases in my 2013 ford fusion hybrid trunk today. Three carry-on sized and one of the biggest suitcases you can get. It all fit. Lol! That hybrid trunk is big. And that shelf doesn't really limit the space like most reviewers of the car like to make you think. Great vehicle. I also own a 2013 ford cmax hybrid. I love Ford's hybrids
Well, the Energi battery pack cuts into the trunk space much more than our Hybrids do. I could definitely see the irritation with the limited space in the Energi as I really wouldn't want a much smaller trunk than my Hybrid has.
@Genny Gang really depends. I have a small bin with cleaning tools, and can fit 2 overhead compartment suitcases and 1 big suitcase, only IF they're not full. Because sometimes they won't fit on top of the battery shelf.
Picked up a 2018 Fusion Hybrid in mid-2019 as a former Avis rental with 33k on it. As of now in 2024, at 123k, I've had rear brake rotor replacement because I haven't been using my brakes (lol, regen) and somehow had the entire EPAS rack die (a $2700 job at the Ford dealer, all in) at around 100k. Other than that... I'm still very pleased with it. 37-40 MPG depending on season. Just watch your eCVT fluid service intervals -- I hear the HF35s on some of the Fusions have reliability concerns in older model years.
Well im glad you had a better experience than i did. I bought my 2018 fusion energi platinum in June of 2018 with 20000km on it(dealer demo). My car had the battery fail in June 2020 at 97000km then after fighting with ford for months it was finally replaced at 113000km in march of 2021 then in June 2022 at 130000km the battery started to show very early signs of instability again. By October 2022 at 145000km it was getting to the point where it was going to start tripping that P0b24 code again so i basically stopped using it and sold it back to the dealership in Feb 2023 at loss and its still for sale right now at that dealership. with that being said the battery instability was the only problem i ever had. i changed the rear brakes for the first time the day before i sold it at 148000km and the factory front brakes were still at 50%. If i can find one in the future with a dead battery pack for cheap i may try and DIY some liquid cooled Tesla cells in there. It was a great car with 1 extremely expensive flaw that i believe could be solved by 3rd parties or back yard mechanics.
We had a 2014, after 8 years the warranty on the hybrid system was over and we sold it at 131 000km. We loved it , we called it the limousine, everything still worked, AC, buttons. We had the Titanium. Some paint peeled on the plastic panels outside. We also saw hybrid battery degradation over the years. I dont know how much it would have been to replace the battery and would we benefit from an 8 year old warranty on it? I dont think so.

My 2015 Fusion Energi has a tear in the rear seat in the same place. Weak spot? I still get about 16EV miles out of my battery, and since my round trip commute is 16 miles I don't use gas unless I go out of town (or I get too cold and turn the heater on). For my use (commuting with the occasional short road trip) the PHEV idea hits a sweet spot between full EV and normal ICE. The car says I'm averaging 65mpg, which is close to true. And my God, yes, the trunk is basically not a trunk. It's the price I'm willing to pay to run around town as mostly an EV.
My plug-in battery range seems to be highly affected by outside temperature. In the winter I only get about 8-10 miles of range (~20°F at night), but in the summer, I'll get 18-20 miles (~70°F at night). It is still pretty consistent even after plugging it in every night.
2020 for sale near me and very tempted to get it. I know they're under recall but Ford is supposed to replace the packs next year with new ones so that'd be pretty solid.
i have a 14 fusion sew/ lux package and 18 inch wheel vep engine( Spanish made engine ) 2.0 turbo... at 193472 miles on it.. still gets 33/34 on the highway at 70 in cruise control, at the track1/4 mile now at 14.8 secs,,,i just change the oil every 6000 miles,, air filter at 2 years trans oil change every 3600- miles.added paddle extensions for Manuel shifting., had a tuner speed up the paddle shifting speed have upgraded to adjustable dampeners and coil overs...lowered 25 mm...not slammed.. sway bars from the fusion energy,,$75 at pick and pull,,, steeda way charging over $500 for the same bars. over all a great car.. plan to keep it... might get a tune on it.. but i like to Suprise those pesky german car owners on twisty back road

Ive got 2fusions (non hybrid) . The 08 has 255k , the 12 has 265k with minimal issues . Im leary of buying new because of the horror stories I hear about. As long as they are dependable i intend to run them until they die

There will always be parts to keep cars on the road but after 20 years of a vehicle being discontinued it will get harder especially for interior parts.
For what it's worth, I have a 2017 Energi Platinum and drive it about 100 miles per day. I now have just over 100K on it and it has been one of the most trouble free cars I've ever owned. The hybrid system makes it easy on brakes (still have 70% of original brakes left), and oil changes are at about 15K miles (still doesn't burn any oil, and the dipstick looks absolutely clean). 3rd set of tires and I went with the Continentals after the original Michelins wore out, and took a slight hit on the MPG, but other than that they are great tires for the car. At 100K and six years old, not a single thing has broken on the car, and every bell and whistle still works flawlessly. I did have to replace the phone module, as the one the car came with was a 2G technology and that has now been abandoned by the phone carriers, so I paid to have the 4G LTE module installed (about $450). I would have no reservations at all recommending this car to others.
I had a 2014 hybrid it also didnt come w a spare but my dad bought a spare tire never really needed the trunk so it just sat there except on days i went grocery shopping car ended up springing a. Head gasket leak at 86k. Dad traded. It in
He talks about it being 200,000 miles but the car is only 6 years old. This is not that old even for 200,000 miles since the seals are still relatively new. Also highway miles definitely help with longevity.
I’m trying to get a reliable used car and the 2016 hybrid version popped up around my area at 80k miles for $11000. I need something reliable and durable for my occasional 40-50mile trips possible once or twice a month. What do you think??
go with an Energi plug-in. Hybrids due have an issue with a pump (cant think of the name) where they literally pop out of the transmission while the Energi plug-in has a different pump design.

I have a 2017 can I ask for a new Li ion battery it goes 17km on battery alone not the 25 to 30 km like before? I replaced the lead acid batteries once but might have to do it again. Yes I replaced the wheel speed sensors. I have nearly 160, 000 km.

gawking at a 2020 titanium with 41,000kms on the clock as a work vehicle, won't be carrying much. middle ground I think between a compact car and a Corolla hybrid that is more expensive by about 4-5 grand with the same kms.

Our Expedition has over 275k miles on the original engine and transmission. It’s inefficient but extremely reliable. Take care of your vehicles with proper maintenance and Ford quality isn’t an issue.
@Alan Holmes my uncle always kept up with all the maintenance on his F150 and still had to replace the transmission at only 70k miles and then the engine at 200k miles because the heads were so damaged from all the spark plugs that kept shooting out of the engine over the years. Also my father has a ford transit with a 3.0 turbo diesel and even with regular oil changes the engine blew at only 60k miles. Sounds like you got lucky. A lot of chevys 2008 and newer now also have a lot of engine and transmission problems. American cars past 20 years aren't made with quality anymore like they used to be.
You can always buy a refurbished one for cheap. Like $1000-1500. Find someone to put it in for cheap or diy. The original battery lasts a long time, sometimes 300-400k+ miles. My fusion hybrid probably needs a new one. Drunk driver hit it and it sat for a while getting baked in the sun at a body shop. 5 months later finally got it back. Battery doesn't seem to have as much juice 😢

Yes and no. The engine does start and stop more often which is when the engine wears out the most. It really depends on how it is driven.

Very similar in Las Vegas to what you just said. Though I only got 62k on mine. But getting 44mpg

They make an aftermarket battery pack for those. If you do invest and replacement you will get many more years out like its new!

At 100K and six years old, not a single thing has broken on the car, and every bell and whistle still works flawlessly. I did have to replace the phone module, as the one the car came with was a 2G technology and that has now been abandoned by the phone carriers, so I paid to have the 4G LTE module installed (about $450). I would have no reservations at all recommending this car to others.
Looks like Ford got it right with these! Shame they won’t be making anymore of them.

He talks about it being 200,000 miles but the car is only 6 years old. This is not that old even for 200,000 miles since the seals are still relatively new. Also highway miles definitely help with longevity.
True but only correction ill make is the car is 8 years old and will be 10 in 2025
At what mileage did you change automatic transaxle fluid? It’s recommended at 150k miles…. I believe it’s a hcf35 transaxle
I’m trying to get a reliable used car and the 2016 hybrid version popped up around my area at 80k miles for $11000. I need something reliable and durable for my occasional 40-50mile trips possible once or twice a month. What do you think??
go with an Energi plug-in. Hybrids due have an issue with a pump (cant think of the name) where they literally pop out of the transmission while the Energi plug-in has a different pump design.

I have a 2019 ford fusion hybrid and I’m at around 120k miles and I’ve only just ever gotten wheels and the oil changes. Do you recommend any other maintenance options at this mileage? I know nothing about cars haha

I have a 2017 can I ask for a new Li ion battery it goes 17km on battery alone not the 25 to 30 km like before? I replaced the lead acid batteries once but might have to do it again. Yes I replaced the wheel speed sensors. I have nearly 160, 000 km.
Thanks for the informative video. Question, I read that you should change the timing belt or chain and the serpentine belt after the 150k. What do you think about it, and did you change yours?
timing chains usually last a lifetime but these models do not have a serpentine belt

lt and tighten the mount to it. The only unfortunate part is that the cover for the bolt will have to remain off

gawking at a 2020 titanium with 41,000kms on the clock as a work vehicle, won't be carrying much. middle ground I think between a compact car and a Corolla hybrid that is more expensive by about 4-5 grand with the same kms.

Ive changed mine every 60k so its definitly worth the 40 bucks to change it. Note you must have the car and all 4 jacks so when you fill it. Its level

Interesting how ford makes reliable hybrids, but their standard gas vehicles are trash.
Well my Ford has gone 480,000 miles with no major problems. I wouldnt consider that trash lol.
Our Expedition has over 275k miles on the original engine and transmission. It’s inefficient but extremely reliable. Take care of your vehicles with proper maintenance and Ford quality isn’t an issue.
@Alan Holmes my uncle always kept up with all the maintenance on his F150 and still had to replace the transmission at only 70k miles and then the engine at 200k miles because the heads were so damaged from all the spark plugs that kept shooting out of the engine over the years. Also my father has a ford transit with a 3.0 turbo diesel and even with regular oil changes the engine blew at only 60k miles. Sounds like you got lucky. A lot of chevys 2008 and newer now also have a lot of engine and transmission problems. American cars past 20 years aren't made with quality anymore like they used to be.
I think the majority of the hybrid parts are actually related to Toyota, including the E-CVT.

You can always buy a refurbished one for cheap. Like $1000-1500. Find someone to put it in for cheap or diy. The original battery lasts a long time, sometimes 300-400k+ miles. My fusion hybrid probably needs a new one. Drunk driver hit it and it sat for a while getting baked in the sun at a body shop. 5 months later finally got it back. Battery doesn't seem to have as much juice 😢
