  • Dan Crenshaw is the freshman Republican Congressman from the 2nd District of Texas. Prior to his political career, he served as a United States Navy SEAL for 10 years. On his 3rd combat deployment, he was injured by an IED (improvised explosive device) which cost him his right eye and left him with substantial damage to his left. He was medically retired due to his injuries, and shortly thereafter began his career in politics.

      @Sassy Grsassy There is a legit use for red flag laws. If someone goes on Facebook and threatens a massacre, I don't want them armed. The problem is the potential for abuse. I'm worried about it being used by the left as a magic wand to disarm people. But every mass shooting brings us closer to a 2A repeal so preventing them is crucial. It's a tough one.

      @@INSTlGATOR if you are referring to TAPS then read up more of what the TAPS act is. I, like you, immediately thought TAPS was a "red flag" bill as well and after reading the bill and multiple legal analyses I found it wasn't a red flag bill as well. It basically assembles a group of nerds that are experts in behavioral threat analysis (that have operated in the government's alphabet agencies for decades) that issues recommendations to Congress-and they don't have to listen to them at all (because they are only recommendations, they are not given any power at all).
      If you don't believe me read up on this at "TheTruthAboutGuns," it is a very right-wing pro-2a website that is highly factual (as labeled by MediaBiasFactCheck, which if it is rated highly factual AND right-wing on there then you know you can trust it-considering MediaBiasFactCheck is so biased) that says this very thing while breaking down the entire bill. I will leave a link to it at the end of my comment.
      Honestly, Crenshaw is getting too much flak for this based solely on people's knee jerk reaction without reading the bill (the very thing he mentioned in this podcast in fact.). If you don't believe me give the bill and this article a read and I promise you that you will change your mind on it. Whether you disagree with what it implements, it is by no means a red flag bill and doesn't give anyone the right to take someone's guns away. It has nothing to do with guns by any means.

      He is a supporter of the idea of red flag. Taps sets in place the unaccountable committtee that will lay the groundwork for red flag nationally. Also a massive spending bill. So much for fiscal responsibility

      @@LoneWolfRanging I disagree with the omnibus bill completely, as do most Americans I believe. However, the TAPS act doesn't do any of that and has nothing to do with guns. You can disagree with the idea of the team, but they aren't unaccountable (they can be removed from it by their respective leaders at any time and are under congressional oversight) and has nothing to do with red flag laws. I initially thought the same thing as Teri and you, but after reading the bill and multiple legal analyses of it, I don't see this to be the case. If you don't believe read this article by "TheTruthAboutGuns," they are highly factual (as labeled by MediaBiasFactCheck which is impressive considering they are so bias when it comes to right-wing sites) and a heavily right-wing site that solely covers the Second Amendment.

    dude there are so many moments where i had to pause and think about what Dan was saying. when he was describing being in Germany after loosing his vision. how he was still seeing Iraq. its like a flashbulb memory. those images are locked into your vision because it was some of the last things you saw before the explosion.

    • @JR-ju3kj
      @JR-ju3kj Před 5 lety

      I remember the late, great singer and pianist, Ray Charles, once saying he would still see certain things in his memory and in his imagination.
      Charles, obviously wasn't a war veteran and he lost his vision as a small child and he remained blind for the rest of his natural life but when he would describe certain memories in his mind and how he could still see them, like memories of his mother, memories of what sunset looked liked like, that reminded of what Dan Crenshaw was talking about and still seeing Iraq even after loosing his vision when he was in Germany. Because regardless of how they loose their vision, I guess it would be a similar experience for most people who are blind and seeing things in their memory and their imagination. Bur fortunately, Crenshaw recovered his vision in one eye.

    Referring back to separating guys from active duty, when they still have something to offer.
    Specifically, how about a limited re-enlistment like in other gov’t jobs. This way if a guy had enough active time that if he wanted to go back but was not eligible due to not reaching 20yrs by 60 it may still be feasible and a win-win. Dependent on MOS/NEC and meeting standards, etc.

    If you raise the retirement age, you’re going to have to set different ages for different fields. Someone who’s worked in a labor industry for 30-40 years, they deserve to retire with more than 5-10 years of life left. Maybe if you’re a pharmacist working until 70 isn’t a big deal, but if you’re turning wrenches or running machinery, these fields are not equal in that regard. To be honest I think a lot of labor industries should be allowed to retire earlier already.
