First of all thank you for honestly sharing your experience. As a person who earned a specialization with honors from University of Colombo Faculty of Science while completing a UCSC's external degree program (BIT) with the help of a private institute, I can confidently advice all the students that if you get the chance to complete an well established degree program from government university please do that.
If you're still hungry for more knowledge and experience like I did you choose a private institute of your preference and go for it. But please do a very good background search about the institute you are choosing.
Also lastly I have to mention that it takes a huge mental and physical capacity to complete two programs at the same time. So if you really want to do that at least make sure the extra program you are choosing to do is well related with your main degree program.
Always make sure the program of your choice is well recognized in both Sri Lanka and abroad.

Habai man eka mage mathe හැටියට පිළිගන්නේ නැ. මොකද මාත් ඔය campus එක්ක දැනට ඉගෙනගන්න ගමන් SE. සමාජේ ඔය වගේ මතයක් හැදෙන්න ඕන තරම් හේතු සාධක තියෙනවා. එහෙම බලපුවම එක සාධාරණයි. මම ඉගෙනගන්න uni එකේ ඇත්තටම lectures ලා කියන්නේ එයාලගේ අතේ 25% වගේ තියෙන්නේ අනිත්ව අපේ අතේ කියලා. ඔව් හරි, මොකද lectures ලා fundamental විතරයි අල්ලන්නේ ගොඩක්.
1. මගේ batch එකේ 100+ ඉන්නවා se හැබැයි ඔතනින් මන් දකින හැටියට interview එකකට apply කරලා intership ගන්න පුළුවන් තරමේ අය ඉන්නේ 15 වගේ. ඉතුරු එවුන් ටිකනම් අමුම අමු ගොබ්බයො. මන් එහෙම කියන්න හේතුව. මගේ set එකේ වැඩ කරනම එවුන් 5 ඉන්නවා මෙච්චර කාලේකට lectures ලගෙන් අපි ඇත්තටම ඉගෙනගත්තේ එයාලගේ curriculum එක විතරයි. ඒ ඔක්කොම අපි self studies කරලා ඉගෙනගත්තේ. Assignment උනත් අපි හොදටම කරා. හැබැයි අපේ අනිත් එවුන්, උන් මෙලොව wadak කරන්නේ නැ. ඇත්තටම කිඋවොත් උන් ඇවිල්ලා ඉන්නේ සල්ලි කන්න. Love කරන්න, campus functions විතරයි උන්ගේ target. ගොඩක් එවුන් අඩුම තරමේ computer ගැන basic knowledge වත් නැ. රැල්ලට ආපු එවුන් ගොඩයි 😂. අපිට තිබ්බ පලවෙනි programming language එකේ assignment එක අපි රෑ නිදි මරාගෙන bug fix කර කරේ. හැබැයි අනිත් එවුන් කෙලින්ම් chatgpt දැම්මා ගත්තා upload කරා. ඉගෙනගත්තේ මොනවද කියන්න කිසිම අවබෝදයක් නැ. ඔය වගේ හරක් ICBT, ESOFt වගේ ඒවගෙන් යන හින්දා තමයි එවට් ගොඩක් බනින්නේ. Management අව්ල් එක පැත්තකින් තියලා හිතන්න ඉගෙනගන්න එවුන් ගැන ටිකක්.
2. ඇයි slit වගේ හොද uni වලට බනින්නේ නැත්තේ
ඇත්තටම බනින්න දෙයක් නැ. මොකද ඒවට මොන මෝඩයා ගියත් උ වැඩ කරන්නම් ඕන exam pass වෙන්න. ICBT, ESOFT වගේ newe slit එකේ assignment එක්ක exam. Exam pass වෙන්න padam කරන්නම් ඕන. ඕන එකෙක් slit ගියාට පස්සේ උට වැඩ කරන්නම වෙනවා. අර වගේ cmpus වලට ගියාම අනිත් එවුන් කරන්නේ ඔක්කොම gpt දාලා කරන එක. කෙලින්ම අමු හරක් බිහිවෙන්නේ.
මන් වැරදිද හරිද දන්නේ නැ. හැබැයි මේ මන් අත්දකින දේ අපේ campus එකේන්. Campus එකට බනින එක සාධාරණයි අර වගේ අමු හරක් degree අරන් industry යද්දී. නමට degree. අනිත් අයගෙත් අදහස් දැනගන්න කැමති.

I dont know about any other universities, but I joined to that institute after finishing my OLs and skip my ALs.
Honestly they have lectures that is updated and explain the cocepts very well, cover every part of syllabus with perfect amount of assignments and have good exam system.
There are many who badmouth this specific institute because they cant keep up with the contents. This place is not a place where u can pay and walk away with ur degree. You have to do the exams, assignments, keep good attendance. Please dont say things just because its the trend. And most of the time SE jobs concern about skills rather than a piece of paper. And i know first years who are working as interns because that is how worthwhile the content is. This is just slander from people who does not want to work hard enough to earn something. Just because you guys keep failing and repeating exams then left the institute cant keep up with content doesnt mean everyone is like that. Stop spreading rumors and be mindful when u talk about something.

The video was not targeted at any institution! I provided my experience with such a place so everyone can relate to what I’m saying. And ironically, everyone thinks that it’s about a particular institute.
Everyone got the message wrong! The idea is to evaluate the “degree” programs that institutes offer. The issue was not mainly about the content (even though I don’t think they offer “software engineering”, but rather mostly programming).
As I mentioned in the video, these institutions are needed as they also play an essential role in the education system. My ONLY issue is the “degree” because many people struggle to get a job or go abroad with that. And, this might not apply to all institutions, but some of boast and lie about this. That’s bad and I don’t think it’s a sin to point it out.
If the institution you went is good, no need to worry, I will take your word on it. 😇
Bro, The Point is most pll who attend to those institute are the ones who failed A/L, ofc Most SE degrees can follow after O/L, But TBH, Degrees like DS/MLE really need more education in Mathematics, so That is Why those who get CSE degree from Mora Uni earn more than any SE in SL

Why don't you compare the syllabus of each institute and uni? So everyone understands the content and proper comparison rather than just talk vaguely. I think anyone can follow any marketing strategy irrespective of the quality. So that is not a proper indicator of a good institute. Sri Lanka does not have a system to evaluate the quality of the content. UGC approved also doesn't mean the content is good.
As you said, You developed the syllabus to one institute. Can one person develop a syllabus of a diploma and say that is best?
I looked in to the said institute, it has a partnership with a UK uni. Not an affiliation. So the content has already been evaluated by the academic council of that university.
What I see in Sri Lanka, only big buildings can survive, not good contents. I say this also as a resource person of several universities.

SLIIT has a pretty darn good course curriculum. Please refer to their course curriculum rather than making assumption based on the few people focusing on a particular field. If you have had a look at their curriculum, you may find they will be teaching you the fundamentals, and best practices, and making you aware of industry standards. Also, you may find that lectures will only cover 12.5 %, and Lab practicals will cover a similar portion of the course content most of the time. The rest of the 75-80 % will be covered by self studies. The more you do self-study, the more you become best.
The thing about documentation is, that it is not only in SLIIT, it is there in every reputed university. And, preparing those documentation to the given standard is a little difficult for someone who doesn't have a pretty good study plan. And I believe better documentation skills are necessary if not mandatory. You may find the skill useful in future as well.
And with time, you might come to understand that a degree lays the groundwork; self-study builds the skyscraper.
