That Florida loss was outta pocket, Tennessee can win a big game but can’t take care of business when it comes to lesser competition.
You mean what if a coach used their power back as a power back and their shifty, speed back as such? Or didn’t line up in the shotgun on the one yard line? Or didn’t have full contact practices the day before your biggest games? Or maybe found a way to get your star QB an extension on his rocket exam the night before you played a game that would’ve gotten you into the sugar bowl?

You are one of the few commentators I have heard who can look at this Vols team and see what it is they are trying to do and take it a step further and see the positive things that means for the program and Coach Heupel as a whole. I think this season if nothing else is proof that Heupel is not a gimmick coach and doesn't need a Hooker and a Hyatt to win games.

I truly don’t want Nico playing this year, but this team isn’t as bad as Vols fans make it out to be, and the SEC is weird enough to still feel in the mix. This A&M game is the type that we historically find a way to lose, and yet this team found a way to win.
James Pierce is a monster, the running back trio is certifiably legit, and the O-line is looking improved with Mays back.
The issues this team has might not get fixed fully this season, but they are the types of issues that you can play your way out of (you might lose some games in the process).
I would love to see Dee Williams get some playing time on offense though.

@@buckfleming4226 My biggest critique of Joe is that he makes slow decisions and bad ones especially in high pressure situations. You can tell based off the play calling that the coaches don't trust Joe. It's mind blowing how many times we run the ball on 3rd and long. If Joe was relatively competent/trusted, we would rarely if ever run the ball in those situations.

Even though this is a bridge year waiting for Nico, I am impressed by Heupels ability to adjust his offense to its strengths. Lots of coaches would stubbornly keep trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Heupel knows Milton is dog ass so he is making us a ground and pound run offense.
That's all TN has needed. We ALWAYS had the talent but the coaches forced their own way. Heupel coaches to his teams strength. Finally a coach who knows how to win.

Not all Milton's fault. The receivers are playing under expectations. Not getting open, dropping passes, and not blocking.
@@larrygreen4324 Bro, Nico is an 18 year old true freshman who was in high school last year. Not many QBs can go straight from high school to starting in a power 5 team. Playing in front of 100k people and on national television takes some getting use to.
That defense is surprising me I knew they were going to be good but they are starting to show they might be one of the top defenses when they have a night if they can stay consistent we might have something
The DBs still suck. They could have probably had two more picks yesterday if they actually TURNED AROUND. Both our picks came from a panicked QB so even those are more thanks to our line than anything.

195 lb Nico would be hurt if he played this year. We put him out there and we may complete a few more passes, but he'd be hurt and we'd be right back to Milton anyways.
Nico might only be a buck 95, but he's one tough player. Also, he's very quick! Vols didn't pay him all that money if he wasn't one exceptional athlete!

Nah, to be honest, I have no hope left to hold out for Joe Milton. He's too old and has been in this system for too long for us to think he'll improve any further. He has hit his ceiling, imo. Incredible arm strength means nothing when you play with his level of indecisiveness.
BUT, with our defense (#27 Pearce is a madman!) and our run game, I think we can hang with/beat anyone in the SEC
I heard that there were the same issues when he was at Michigan. Inconsistent play was the norm!

If Tennessee defense plays Bama and UGA the way they played yesterday, they’ll make it to the SEC championship no doubt. Joe and the receivers need to work on a few things though and get on the same page so they can add a few more security points to the board. They left an easy 10-14 on the field yesterday.

I think we can beat Bama with Joe playing a bit better. Idk about Georgia though. We're playing right into their strengths, and UGA always seems to show up big for big games. Tennessee wouldn't have the luxury of playing a flat Georgia like we've seen in other games. Ask Kentucky about it...

All of us vols fans screaming if we just had a quarterback this team has some dudes up front on both sides of the ball. Like could be better than last year with a average qb because of how much the d has improved.
Johnson's jersey was pretty darn green at the end of the game and I hope we get the same pressure on Bama's QB. A&M had 6 sacks against Bama. Let's see what we can do. Also, Johnson PLAYED to win that game - Not so sure about Joe (now he did have a few moments). Dude has got it in him but his contract season is running out ...
Man! A&M couldn't even take a snap without tripping over their own feet. This game looked like Vanderbilt vs Kentucky 20 Yeats ago. 😂
JD, you are a great guy and FB analyst, we make wrong assumptions about games that can go either way. What makes us men is we admit when we wrong or make a mistake and correct it.

We where down more then just Maze at FL. Mensy did not make the trip also which hurt even more because we had 2 walk on players in their spots and others not playing their natural position. Menzy was back the next game and we seen a huge improvement with just him back then added Maze back after that and we been clicking ever since. FL hurt but it put a lasting bad taste that some people and they can't get over or haters use it because they have zero clue what they are talking about.
Good win but issue was that both teams made mistakes that kept points off the board. Tennessee's defense won it.

Joe Milton has got to step up. He has to. The passing game has no choice but to click eventually. His receivers have to help him out for sure, but Joe has to be better.
The game moves way too fast for Joe Milton mentally process what's going on.

My biggest concern is that Joe Milton has Zero Situational awareness he had 2 free false start free plays and both times ran it out bounds? If he can step up his game think have a shot against Bama

People has to realize that this is a completely different team than we had last season. Being more physical and just being better overall on D.
All great points except for the fact the awesome offense you described as so amazing only scored one touchdown despite the great running game. We can't beat a great team with Joe playing like he has all season. We have a very clear ceiling with Joe and any other QB would not lower that ceiling on offense. Don't know if Nico or Moore would raise the ceiling for this team, but i damn sure wish I could find out.
Milton lost us the Florida game flipped the field with his interception and it led to a very early two score lead and a 14 point swing . He absolutely lost us that game and he damn near lost this A&M game by throwing a pick in the end-zone on a red zone trip... should have been an extra 7 points.
I don't care if Nico is a freshman. Eric Ainge, Tyler Bray and Josh Dobbs all killed it as true freshmen at Tennessee....they were all three much better as freshman than Milton is right now.
You can't tell me with a straight face that Nico isn't better than Milton because if that's true than it means Nico is a massive bust....freshman or not...i don't trust Heupel to play the best QB... he's too scared of hurting feelings it seems.
We should have had an extra TD against Aggies and that interception easily could have cost us the ganem Stop saying Milton isn't losing games because he lost the Florida game and damn near lost this one.

@@rabbitscryptos7757all the blame on Milton but you’re not also recognizing the fact that our WRs are also dropping his more accurate passes. Keyton dropped an easy TD pass and has dropped far too many catchable balls this season. Squirrel White has dropped some catchable passes as well. Is Joe perfect? Definitely not. His INTa have been bad and he has had some overthrows but from what I’ve watched, he’s not as bad IMO that everyone is making him out to be.

Milton is terrible numbers don't lie...he put us in a two score deficit against Florida on the road when we were trying to tie it up...wake tf up already...a good QB makes everyone around him look better than they are... i had this same argument with Dobbs as a freshman over Justin Worely and everyone said the same ole BS...worely is more prepared ...dobbs is just a scrawny freshman blah blah... it's really pretty fuckin simple...when you see something bad fix it.

Joe needs to be a running quarterback, he has the size to punish any defender that gets in his way, why in the world are they so determined to throw the ball? Just run it and control the clock, you notice this year the defense is playing all 4 quarters, they aren't getting gassed out.
Joe is scared to run the ball and will run out of bounds to avoid taking a hit even when the sticks are right there.
That's what i was thinking. Burning clock running gives defense time to rest. But Milton and recievers have to get on same page when you do throw. If Milton could just finesse the ball throwing at times.
@BB-uu9oo yea but when he does put his shoulder down and finally go through someone it's nasty. He needs to do it more, I think he's getting more comfortable with it. He had some runs last night and you could his confidence levels rising.
@garyclements318 you're correct ive been saying that TN needs to throw in some mesh plays and slants over the middle. Then just run the damn ball, eventually he will get some finesse on his throws.

Man i get that you are gonna cover this from a positive spin, but I seen two medicore teams not being able to execute time and time again on the offensive side. Tennessee and TAM both could have put this game away 100 times over. We are winning in spite of Joe, not because of him. And at the end of the day, if you can't pass, then you'll lose in any meaningful game

They only scored 13 points on O. Max J is a good BACKUP QB no doubt. People are crying about Jimbo but the reality is that Max is not starting for more than 3 teams in the entire SEC.
Does Milton not know what a free play is? A&M defense jumps offsides and he gets a shot to throw a bomb downfield and he runs it out of bounds short of the sticks. Then we don’t convert on the next play… he did the same thing a few weeks ago. Brother.. at least give our receivers a chance for a big play. Feels like ole miss over and over again. He just can’t process things quick enough and with a up-tempo offense it doesn’t mesh. I understand he was loyal and waited his turn and he has all the physical capabilities to be a stud but I just don’t ever see him make quick enough decisions.. he seems to always be late. I get it at this point he is going to be our guy and heupel is going to play him so all I got to do is sit back for the ride but after watching our explosive high speed offense last year it’s painful to see.

6 games in, TN offense cannot get chunk plays throwing the ball. It is a completely different offense mainly because of the drop off of talent at the QB position.
Joe would look a lot better to us if his receivers hadn't dropped so many catch-able balls. It's at least as much their fault as it is his. Turns out it's not that easy to replace talented receivers like Hyatt and Tillman.
We rotate running backs and wide receivers so I want to see Gaston Moore play, Kirby Smart did it with a walk on why not Tennessee

You were one of those some people that predicted that Taxes A&M was going to beat Tennessee. I think that Tennessee could be a dominant team if Joe gets his skill set in order. I believe it’s a mental issue that he is dealing with.
Tennessee should have won by more. A&M is hot garbage and will only get worse as long as Fisher is allowed to remain.
Wish we had hooker this year. With how big of a step forward our defense has taken we would truly be in the run for the playoffs

GA looking very vulnerable this year. Their QB has made a lot more progress than Joe though (& that's really sad, everyone wants him to do well, except UT's foes) but I haven't had them as the nation's #1 team for several weeks now. I think any of the top 4 teams could defeat them, and if we run the ball like Sat. we could take them down in Neyland this year.

I honestly was not impressed by the game yesterday. The defense looked good, but we only found the end zone one time on offense and had a serious lack of big plays. Got to the red zone twice and got a field goal once and threw a pick in the end zone on the other. Glad we got the W but it left a lot to be desired and makes me not very optimistic heading into Bama next week
I think it’s impressive if you think bout our offense doing so well against a good defense without a passing game. It was ugly but we’re a qb away from being a great team.
Our defense is great!! Our offense is mediocre. Our quarterback is horrible!!!
