I think to skimboard in deep water, you've gotta get the skimboard up to speed so that it "skims" over the water real good to ride those waves. Run real fast, then skim, and ride some good waves, that'd be my guess.
@nidkk agreed i used to have a foamie and couldn't figure out why i couldn't make it to the further out waves. I got a ultra a month later and improved alot

Skimboarding is on shallower water, and a skimboard is significantly smaller and has no fins. Surfing is usually in huge waves, and you swim/paddle out, instead of running and hopping onto your board.
Ok this has nothing to do with this video but has anyone seen the skimboarding movie "Sterno"? If so i am trying to find the name of the song for bill byrans helmet camera section. it is chapter 9 in the movie, and the credits do not say the name of this song. HELP PLEASE

@superskim1 well u get more points for going switch because its harder so they score more points. So what he surfs goofy he can go both ways on a skimboard so you think he should get awarded the same amount of points as someone skimming primarily one stance when hes doing both? And if they are better than him then why arent they skimming switch as well so they can get "all their points"
we don't surf much here in my country :l and i've never heard of skimboarding until i found a vid on youtube and to me skim boarding and surfing look the same so i wanted to know the difference cuz i don't even kno anything about surfing mkay? i asked a simple question and if u didnt have an answer u didnt have to reply

Skimboarding= You start on the beach run and get on it Facing the waves then turn and ride the wave (high tide only) OR you just rida across the sand no waves(Flatland Skimboarding) Surfing= You start IN the water, paddle facing the shore, take the wave, stand up and ride it :) (mostly low and medium tide)
reply to lametallica15- many people have different opinions about them so it's hard to answer. I personally reccomend them.....they help you stay on better than wax...again tht's just my opinion lol
