- Police officers with the city of Tempe have been engaging in lawless and unconstitutional behavior in an attempt to prohibit free speech. Recently, they gave a criminal citation to a man who was exercising his 1st amendment right and they stole his property.
Apologia Church and Jeff Durbin had contact with the police officers this morning. Jeff Durbin instructed the police that they had no right to stop his free speech and they were in violation of the Federal, State, and City law in attempting to shut down the protest.

@Carlos Perdue What happened is that the ABUSIVE FAKE PREACHER shut off his amplifying device as he was ordered to by the authorities who advised him that it was illegal, according to Tempe City Code. The only noise that has to be measured by a decibel meter is a continuous noise such as construction work or work that requires heavy machinery of which a city permit is required. The authorities were quite patient with this loud mouthed supposed preacher who was acting more like a drunken fool. TEMPE Noise Ordinance - Section 20-7, a(2) a . (3) a,b and c.

@@diefenbakersown At the time of it happening, ask for their badge numbers and name. They are legally required (I believe so) to announce who they are. Afterwards, while your at it, ask them for their supervisor’s phone number or badge. If they don’t give you the supervisor, at least you have the officers name. Contact the pd and ask to speak to the supervisor. If the supervisor is a douche, ask to go up the chain-of-command. Don’t be an ass about it. Be respectful. You’ll be more likely to be treated respectfully. If you go nowhere, you can always sue. If you sue, the PD has to prove they aren’t guilty, you don’t have to prove anything.

Your rant doesn't apply to his situation because he will not be protected by qualified immunity if the pastor goes forward with his complaint. While the officers were wrong, they didn't even give him an official citation. A warning citation with no name on it is the equivalent of toilet paper. @@adamcarr732 Police officers are subject to the Rule of Law and qualified immunity DOES NOT confer to them the authority to knowingly violate a person constitutional right of exercising free speech. The officers should have showed up with a decible meter and measured his amplified speech to see if it violated city ordinances. If it did not, then they should have told the person who complained that Pastor Jeff was NOT in violation of city ordinances and was exercising his constitutional right of free speech. Period.
Pastor Jeff knows the law and was standing up for his rights, so citing Romans 13 does not support your argument? Pastor Jeff in this encounter wasn't shown to be violating the law. So, unless the officers can prove otherwise, he was conducting himself lawfully. This is constitutionally protected activity.
The scripture you cited does NOT support carte blanche authority to violate codified law in performance of government duties.
The scripture you quoted applies to the officers that showed up and did NOT submit themselves to the codified law and ordinaces that were there to instruct them on how they were to legally conduct themselves in this encounter.

I've been an active police officer for 47 years. Never in my life have I seen such a disgrace. These officers should be fired.
Unfortunately, with all of the anti-police sentiment over the past few years, many officers like yourself who act honorably have retired and the ones who would follow in those footsteps are not entering the profession, leaving only the people who are not well suited for the job. I can’t believe how unprofessional and arrogant that supervisor was. I proudly worked for law enforcement many years ago, and she is an embarrassment to her position. It was all about her personal beliefs, ie. abortion, so she didn’t care about the law. Unbelievable. You guys keep doing what you’re doing. When I was younger I was caught drinking underage and was frisked by a male cop, then when he took me in the female cop was there when I told her I had already been frisked she looked confused and angry but did not say anything. Now as an adult I know what he did, he also acted exactly like this lady... she is horrible.

As a former police officer I absolutely love this. I hate when people who wear the badge don't educate themselves on the law and think that anything they say is the law. Those are the type of people who are attracted to the job because they seek power over people.

I like when he called them to repent. It looked like he wasnt going to say something but then maybe the spirit just moved him? And he stood firm but remained proper and respectful.

I used to think being a Christian was walking around just being nice to everyone and 'turning the other cheek.' As time goes on I realize more and more that to speak up for yourself and what is right is a very Christian thing to do. And turning the other cheek does not mean submit to aggressors, it means to forgive and not hold past trespasses against others.

Agreed, but even more so, turning the other cheek means taking the due justice upon oneself. The reason the Bible states an eye for an eye , is because justice demands it. But when Christ died for us, HE took on the rightful judgement we deserved, so to be like Christ, instead of an eye for an eye, we are told to be like Christ. When we are told to turn the other cheek, we are being reminded just judgement is imperative but God which Jesus ultimately finished it for us.
