I continue to be amazed how one man continues to bring tears of joy to my heart. And not speaking of Jesus.

Grazie.
absolutely monumental
I don't understand the lyrics but I do understand the music and it is beautiful.
Stunning!
Awesome music and awesome stage production.
magnifico pezzo
Stagings splendidly splendid.
Amo!
And I thought Verdi's Aida, Act II, scene II was spectacular. Beautiful.
Excellent!
Spectacular!
Simplesmente LINDO. Assistido dia 28/02/2024, uma quarta feira quente, em Porto Alegre, capital do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil.
By no means do I subscribe strictly to classic staging, but for the love of the gods, this production looks like it should take place on the "Star Wars" planet of Naboo. Everything from costuming to set is eye-gouging.
I am for classic staging but you are right what the f is this? I feel like clones and droids will storm the place.
The set isn’t so bad, the costumes are bizarre and exaggerated. I’ve seen sets and costumes for Wagner’s operas that were even more ridiculous than these that they were positively hilarious
una maravilla para recordar
Magnificent
impecable
Excelso!!
The 6,000 all-male student body at Brooklyn (NY) Technical HS used to be ushered into their massive auditorium for assembly programs to an instrumental version "Grand March" played on the giant pipe organ located to the left and below the stage. I was a 13-year old Freshman at the time and remember being in complete awe of the music and the spectacle of so many young men silently entering the room, one of the biggest auditoriums in NYC. I believe my reaction was the intended objective.
Thank you.
belleza musical y estetica
Gyönyörű !
Impresionante
BRAVO !
Hi, Riga. You have quite a story. Thanks.

This is one of the most joyous choruses in all opera--the first word in both verses is "freudig" (joyful). Why does everyone look like they're singing the Verdi Requiem? Did Herzog decide to ignore the text and forbid them from smiling, or do they just hate being in those bizarre costumes? I felt particularly sorry for the men having to enter with their vision severely restricted by those helmets. Watch this scene from the mid-70's Bayreuth production to see a chorus thrilled to return to the beloved hall and have "Thuringia's Got Talent" back.
There is a significant difference between belcanto and wagnerian singing. An Italian will never be able to sing in German as Wagner intended to. The roots of tradition are way too strong regardless of the effort and Verdi is omnipresent in Italian minds. I don't mind, I simply understand.
@@zvonimirk.2233 You misunderstand my comment, which is not about singing styles at all. I said that they LOOKED like they were singing the Verdi Requiem, not that they SOUNDED like it. The staging of this scene goes completely against the music and the text. It's as if a director told the chorus in Act I of Traviata to look bored to death at Flora's party, or the Cypriotes to act like Otello sending the Turkish fleet to the bottom of the Mediterranean was no big deal.
I guess this happens when you buy the leftover costumes from The Producers movie.
@@bobzeschin3154 note the sketchy ear-holes ripped in the headresses to enable some faint echo of the orchestra to penetrate. Having taken part many a time in this tomfoolery, I assure you life is not made easy for singers in these stagings.
PRECIOSO
They were quite aerodynamic in those chariots races back in the day;-}
és brutal... TOP
Gran marcha
Sounds quite classical in harmony
So many people . . . yet the sound is like older recording technology.
hi, if the church is very long and the bride walks slow could this march be employed (with little cuts off) as wedding march? there exist an arrangement for pipe organ? thanks.
@shonnyno: Tell the bride to walk faster! If she walks slowly everyone will think she doesn’t want to marry the groom. Or has apprehension about the wedding night!!
Das ist Unendlichkeit
Those hats!?!?!?
Some serious hennin action there....
goooooood ! 😀
I saw this production in Baltimore back in the 90's. I really enjoyed it, but I do remember that the singing was second rate. The Baltimore Opera is now defunct.
That's the thing about Wagner: The music goes on forever while all this viscous stage action takes place.
Viscous = having a thick, sticky consistency between solid and liquid; having a high viscosity. Is that the word you were looking for. Are they all that sticky?
@@davidpotter7785 or possibly vacuous? Music great, story and acting......oh dear.
@@jaybeeshultz it could be metaphorical as Wagner’s compositions are thick with instruments
Agree with you completely! Hope your war is over ASAP. A terrible mistake. Russia is so much better than this.
fantastico bellissime voci
These "bananas" were the ancient hats
Oh...costume designers.....!!
Grand March
Pointy shoes hats & helmets must have been a nightmare walking around the old Manor houses dressed as such

Oh Gott! Wie ich wünschte, ich wäre Deutsch geboren! ...
Reagieren, reagieren und reagieren. Und niemal kapitulieren! Die Worte des Führer.
The BEST Music forever .. beautiful music for the WARRIORS SOUL… for STRENGTH the SPIRIT…the weakest runs because they CANNOT support .. this FORCE .. this is music for NORMAL people .. NOT for DEGENERATEDs.
Wagner grade. Gran Marcha.
From the wonderful German Wartburg I cannot see anything - see title of the Grand March
Richard Wagner, can you feel the music? Can you feel Richard Wagner? Can you feel
Mother Germany?
Wagner wrote what can only be called heroic music...even in defeat, the glory of the Heimat lives forever.
I saw this production. The second act reminded me of a Klan rally.
Did they forget the trumpets???
+newjerseydittohead Yes. They have forgotten the trumpets ! It's so nice with that !
They look like a bunch of white chess bishops.
By the way what are the trumpets doing!?
where is captain kirk?
PRÄCHTIGE !
B major isn't it, or C flat major?
Ray T,
Sorry, I misread your comment as "gray, which is I guess the way the experience could be characterized, and responded accordingly. It was anything but "gay", I assure you.
But where is Princess Leia? and Luke Skywlker?
Inspirational, but where do they find these people? Are they from the 1% and 'good' financially till the end of their days, the procession merely a symbol of their eternal empowerment?
Herzog directed the opera; he did not direct the film. I actually rented it once on the supposition that he had, but the hideous camera work and lack of montage was pretty horrifying, as you can see here.

Wow! Wunderbar! No wonder Wagner's music is considered the most German of all German and Austrian composers.
This staging proves that a modernized, and somewhat stylized production can be done, while maintaining the flavor of the period and not making it look cartoonish, as so many modern productions do with Wagner.
Marsmenschen? Klosterschwestern? Grand March!
One can only imagine what the reverberations were like inside those helmets. The ladies clearly cannot hear the orchestra with their poor ears stuffed with those huge wimples🤣
The music of Wagner effects my mental state. I can't sleep for a week after having listened to Tannhauser. The music rings in my ears for the whole night.
