    I have had my pedal since it came out, and it is a joy to play with. As someone mentioned, using it with other pedals is really nice. I use mine with a digital reverb, a digital delay, and even a chorus pedal (all in chain after the Mel9) I also use a compression pedal in front of it. It takes a lot of tweaking on the sustain and levels to get great sounds as each of the different sounds require different settings. The real fun begins when you add a looper to the chain.. creating layers of symphony, flutes and choir can be addictive and breathtaking.. Not sure why people feel the need to complain and put this pedal down, but it IS a wonderful tool for playing and creating.. Electro-Harmonix has offered a wonderful tool here...

    To add some new discoveries with this beauty: I begin to experience the coolest sounds with the pedal mixed halfway into the guitar sound. My latest far out thing was when I played "Beautiful girl" by George Harrison on my 12 string with the mel 9 mixed halfway in, reverb and Key 9 pedal on Tri glorious for the extra "punch".....and what came out of my amp with just the first 3 most important chords in that song was a delight of almost heavenly proportions. I highly recommend this pedal for the seekers of vintage 60's and 70's sounds.

    You keep saying the sounds are based on early analogue synths, not true at all! That would be the EHX Synth9. This is based an the MELLOTRON, a tape replay 'sampler' so the sounds it produces are based on recordings of REAL instruments. They were recorded one note at a time on to 8 second tape loops which is why the notes will note sustain forever.

    Thank you, Sam and G-I; this is the best demo of this pedal: you show it's possibilities, while explaining how to use it ... Thx! M

    Great pedal for Ambient sounds. Building loops with this is awesome. The choir and flute sounds are superb. I play a violin through this and love the sustain full on to create atmosphere. Recommend it.

    I like the flute, and the general Mellotron sounds if played by a synth, but my gr55 has more in it, albeit a space stealer, I think the future where nano technology takes over, I guess these EH pedals are good for preserving a tradition, of synth mimicry by way of guitar. I still look forward to the day modelling technology allows me to copy all my effects - precisely, but also where i can expand them. Think that would be effect heaven for guitarists, and we would be sharing our effects in a wonderful world of musical solidarity...

    Not too impressed with the brass effect. The Cello/strings effects sound pretty impressive. Sure with the right tube amp, gear, one could get more of a fuller bottom end sound?

    I think you need to be a very creative player and composer to utilize the full potential of this pedal. Yet at the same time, the design is so simple that practically anyone can use it. Bravo!

    Great review. At first I thought, I need that pedal!!! But once you got into the clarinet and saxophone and so on, the settings began to sound the same, which, you explain, is how it's supposed to work.

    A great pedal, I use it solo for 12 String Acoustic. Have the Dry all the way up and Wet at 3 or 4 o'clock. Main sounds I use is the Orchestra, Cello, and Strings. Gives a nice effect when you strum, just under the Guitar. Sometimes I use the Choirs also. Overall, a nice touch for your Guitar, great job from EHX once again!

    Nice with the right guitar style, better with a keyboard. He's right, even though the tracking is excellent, bends are not why you'd want this pedal. You have to think a little less like a traditional guitarist to get the best result with this. If you know what the instruments are supposed to sound like and the range they play in, you'll like it a lot.

  • @TheAngello120

    Melotron sounds are Actual" recordings of real instruments on tape loops, not synthesised models so how comments can say they don't sound real is silly.

    The bypass is a problem for me. I want to kill the dry signal from the effects out when disengaged. I run my effects out right to the pa and the dry signal through the rest of my board. Am I doing this wrong?

      This would be perfect for a band covering 60's and early 70's: if you do about 10 - 20 songs that would benefit from these sounds in your set list, your audience will love you (PM me for suggestions) ... ;-)

    How does this pedal work? It doesn't trigger samples, so how does it work? Is it PCM and manipulation and audio to blend in with sample or something? Is it just synthesis? How does it make the sounds???

    What a great pedal!!! However, I have bought two of them brand new,
    and they BOTH went tits up just after the warranty expired. Lost most
    of the volume, and anything above the 10th fret, forget it, it's a
    jumbled mess. I have used Electro-Harmonix pedals for literally
    decades, and this is my first major
    disappointment with them. Well, I'm NOT buying a third one. I'll just
    do without

  • @Ferroll2
    @Ferroll2 Před 7 lety +2

    The sample is too short giving a continued loop repeat that sounds like a roto effect.
    Apparently EHX could only use a short piece of tape? I hear all the 9 presets have that fault. Maybe EHX will get it right one day?

    • @darbyslick4843
      @darbyslick4843 Před 6 lety +1

      No, it's emulating the short tapes of the Melotron

    • @larryh.3173
      @larryh.3173 Před 6 lety +1

      If I recall correctly, the original Mellotron's taped samples were only 8 seconds or so long. That 'imperfection' contained here (if you notice it) should probably be looked at more as being true to the original design. Players of the day had to take the short sample time into account and figure that into their playing.

    You understand that a Mellotron is NOT a synth! It has tape racks with the REAL instruments/ voices playing/ singing each note on the keyboard...the DO sound "real", in as much as they played taped recordings of REAL...this demo does NOT sound like a Mellotron...I've heard others that do...fyi- I HAVE been in the presence of TWO of them.

    • @clarkfeeley1959
      @clarkfeeley1959 Před 8 lety +1

      I think this is just a demo of the actually pedal only. I'm sure if you were to run it into other pedals with like say a shimmer reverb and chorus etc. it would sound 10x better. I don't like the price though.

    • @mariopetrella-singermusici9171
      @mariopetrella-singermusici9171 Před 8 lety +3

      For a pedal, it is expensive; but the alternative is to purchase a compact keyboard, with hundreds of voices and rhythms, etc., and then carry that around ... No this pedal is the better option ... ;-)

    • @gbattle
      @gbattle Před 7 lety +3

      The problem is that he's playing it through a guitar amp rather than a proper full fidelity PA system. Trust, you will get 10X better sound much closer to the original Mellotron if you do so. That said, this guy is doing way to much glissando (sliding), bends and tremolo to sound proper. You have to play the effect properly - he's not the guy.

    • @mariopetrella-singermusici9171
      @mariopetrella-singermusici9171 Před 7 lety +1

      I noticed that too. In places he is stretching over five frets near the bottom of the neck! I have very small hands and can stretch over three frets at the bottom of the neck . . . at a push, maybe four for a second or so before it starts to get painful. People say practice, but you can't extend the length of your fingers no matter how much practice you put in!I do envy guitarists (and keyboard players for that matter) who have very long fingers.
