- I'll show you how to upgrade your 2 or 4 inch Ford F-150 or Super Duty instrument cluster to the 8 inch lariat information display. For this project you will need a scan tool and will need to download a free program called Forscan onto a Windows PC. I've put some options below. (Paid Amazon Links)

Besides updating mileage, can you do things like engine hours, trip meters, oil life percentage, etc?

You cannot reset engine hours, only add to (like the miles) and like he mentions, it’s done in seconds. Somehow mine got jacked up and I have 3000 hours instead of 300 so be careful.

Yes, only a small number of newer Fords support the odometer write function.

My truck came with puddle lights and side spot lights but no power fold mirrors. I haven't added them either. Don't need them. Thanks for the compliment.
Where is the best place to buy a lariat instrument cluster and where to get the scanner you used?

Great video. I plan on doing this swap and was wondering if you had or knew where to find a step by step guide for doing the forscan part? It seems like there are a lot of options to go through in forscan and I would like to print of step by step instructions.
Sorry but I don't think there is a step by step guide. You have to just educate yourself and be careful. You can easily mess up your truck.

All that info comes from the navigation system. You would have to upgrade to sync 3 most likely.

It's not hard it's just a simple setting in forscan that I have not bothered to do. If you search Google you will find the answer pretty quickly.

Awesome video and info.! I just added a steering wheel to my 2014 Ford F150 XL V8 5L from a 2016 Ford Expedition Limited. Can you help me program the buttons on the steering wheel as none of them work right now?
The buttons should work. There is no programming them. The expedition 2 years newer may not be compatible with your 2014 F-150.

This is a great place to have accurate and precise information, thanks for that. The only question I have is, once the original data is downloaded and flashed back to the new cluster, is the VIN # carry over to the new cluster?

I'm curious about something you did with FORScan after turning on the cluster for the first time. You hit "No" on the FORScan screen message that asked you to load your saved profile (VIN). Once all of the corrections are completed in the new cluster, is FORScan creating a new profile matching that new cluster?, and after that, do you consequently answer "Yes" confirming your truck profile on futures interventions with FORScan?
You can hit yes every time if you want. If you hit no It just doesn't scan for new modules each time so if you hit no it assumes you have the same setup. It still looks for dtcs though.

Can you use the boost/vac gauge on the 5.0 truck with a S/C or turbo?
Not sure. I doubt it. Unless the 5.0 uses the same sensor to read vacuum / boost

Is there a place to buy the cluster from the raptop or sport model? I have forscan and the scan tool just trying to price the cluster and the option I can get with forscan compared to what one seller can do with lights logos and sport mod ect...

I just put an 8 inch in my xlt, and when I try to write the IPC as built that I just saved, forscan won't open it. Says corrupted or something.
I'm not sure what is going on. Maybe the file is corrupt. You have a couple of options potentially. You could temporarily reconnect the old IPC again and reread and save the file. Or forscan has a built-in "as built" look up function now on most vehicles. You could search via your vin # and get the IPC as built for your truck and flash that to the new cluster.

I bought one off a guy with about 30k more miles on it than my truck has, you said there is a way to get them to go back down, how might I do that? Serious question
The only way to do that is against the law and don't think anyone would show you that through this medium
The driving modes works ? I replace my 2020 STX IPC with a raptor 2020, All works fine wiathout boost gaguge and the Driving mode selector.

This will absolutely not work in a 2013. Completely different

Most likely not. It will function but you will have multiple errors on the display every time you start the truck if it doesn't match the feature set of your truck exactly.

No. There were changes with the 10 speed transmission in 2017. I would try to stick to the same year cluster if possible.

Does this process work the same with a brand new cluster?
It should yes. I can not 100% guarantee that though. Usually dealers order them with the mileage pre programmed so I'm not sure if you bought a new one if they would ask... Programming it with as built data would be the same.

Will a 2015 work on an 2018. That's my only concern. Don't want to fork out 300-500 and it's not compatible.
I have the same question. I found one in eBay but the selling told me it wouldn’t fit my 18’ and that I needed to get the right now for it. Which is $900 compare to the one he is selling for $550. So does it matter the year speedometer you get?

I tried to rewrite the engine hours in idle time under the forscan IPC I would write it in seconds once I hit right I got the message saying incomplete failed anyone know why
I read you have to put hours x 3600 for accurate hours to show. Check the forums.
I bought a cluster and the guy lied about the miles and it has 125k and mine has 73 k is there any way to get the 125k cluster programmed to 73k?

When I write all for my old cluster data to the new cluster that took away all the new clusters features my old cluster didn’t have anyone else have this issue.
So you got into the bcm or bdycm I think forscan calls it and turn on off-road display
It's the baseline you need to be at. Now you can go back with forscan and just enable the specific features that you want to add that your truck will support. For instance the compass in the display won't work if you don't have a compass module. You will have a bunch of error messages if you don't flash to your OEM build code

What obd device are you using? If using the bbfly one with the switch, you have to switch it when prompted

I followed your steps and was able to swap clusters and change odometer, engine hours and idle hours. Only issue I am having is getting the DTE to show above the fuel level and the digital temperatures to show above the coolant and transmission gauge. Any suggestions on how to add that?
I'm about to swap clusters. I understand the process for the odometer, but did you have to do anything for the engine hours or did they match what was on your old cluster? Might check "Ricardo's Workshop" channel for your question - he has a bunch of Forscan videos.
@@tnfrosty yes I had to change the engine and idle hours. You have to enter the amount of seconds for the engine and idle hours. The new forscan is pretty useful because no spreadsheet is needed, but I wish it was easier to navigate to the option you want to adjust

That would be illegal (felony crime) and you would go to prison if caught and convicted. But yes. It's that easy.

Keys don't matter for the instrument cluster upgrade

No
Actually it could, but you would need to download vmware and open up a virtual windows pc on a separate partition. Watch CZcams videos how to do that.
