- I got a brand new GE Side by Side refrigerator, model number GSS25GMHPCES made in 2021 and decided to figure out how to get into service mode and run a few tests for diagnostics. The system is rather basic, but it will help you figure out GE refrigerator troubleshooting.
In this video, you'll learn how to do a GE refrigerator control reset, deal with a GE refrigerator not cooling through the GE refrigerator demo mode, and then some ideas on basic GE refrigerator troubleshooting from the board.
Remember that your model's service manual may be different than mine. I hope this basic video will help you understand some things you can do to help repair your GE refrigerator.

This video is soooo good!!! Fixed my fridge that I thought I had killed after it shut off after cleaning it... Bens Appliances and Junk is the BEST!!!!! Huge thanks!!!!
Thank it was lots of help for me ,we were going crazy with the beeping sound
This video helped me save probably 100s of dollars. Thank you so much.
Worked for My 2009 GE Profile too. THANK YOU !
Thanks for your help!!..have a no lights and no ice condition.. Of all things 08 failed (dispenser door didn't open open)...gonna replace ice dispenser solenoid!
Excellent video. Thank you for the time and effort.
Thank you Ben. What drew me to you channel was the word "diagnostic." Too many times self help videos show you how to replace a component, but not how to determine where the problem is or why. I have book marked your website and this page for future use.
Here is my question, for you or anyone who has a possible answer.
I have a GE profile fridge, similar to the one in your video, but older. I had two issues crop up within a week of each other. The first was the ice maker was dispensing crushed ice only, even if cube was selected. Before I had a chance to deal with that, the evaporator fan started making a racket and failed. Went through the process of replacing it, fridge is now working, but...the ice cube dispenser does not work at all now.
How do I determine where the problem is, dispenser motor, motherboard...?
If I unplug the fridge and let is sit for 30 minutes, and plug it back in, will it reset the motherboard?
If I go through the process you describe here, will it reset the motherboard to factory defaults and fix the problem?
Thank you for posting this video . Must be a thousand how to on GE fridges and this is 1st one that addresses most important topic of diagnostic mode utilization for newer fridges . One question is if there is a fault in some component found in the diagnostic cycle how is that communicated back through the display ?
I believe I mentioned it but... according to the manual, there isn't an actual error code system on this model refrigerator. I poured over the manual multiple times and saw no error code reference, just the board testing info near end of video. This concerns me because the fridge should have something... because all other brands do as far as I'm aware.
Also, as a note this fridge was brand new when I did video, so it's recent regarding the no codes which, again, worries me.
This video was so helpful!!!👏👏👏
Awesome video! Allowed me to diagnose the defective defrost heating element in my fridge and replace it for $16. Thanks!
Hi there, did the diagnosis involve removing the plate at the back and testing the wires? I might have a similar issue. My freezer reads "8" and fridge "48" which are too high temps and my freezer fan runs non-stop.
Would you have the part number that u installed cuz I'm showing it as being $95
This video was so helpful!!! Thank you!! Is there anyway you can provide a list of all the diagnostic functions? Or where to access them?
Great job explaining everything keep it up
Thanks, will do!
This is great. Thanks for sharing. Do you know for the model showing in this video, how to set temperature from fahrenheit to celsius?
Great video 🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥
Great information! Can you advise where to find the service details as in your video, but for a GSHS5KGXCCSS? Thanks!
Thank you😊
Thanks very helpful !!!
Glad it helped!
Same issue. Popped off the board there, just with a single screw on my model, and it seems to release the pressure that must have been pushing on the buttons on the board.
My GE fridge won’t enter service mode - only get 0000 if the panel board has lost coms with main board would that be a reason ?? Great Video hop to use it once I can the fridge in this mode
Hi Ben. but My GE profile Fridge does not light on when I open the door. it is also called an ice maker side, it is chiller is working but the interior light in the fridge is not turning on.
it tried resetting multiple times with 0 15 as you showed but no luck. FYI Rest of the fridge is working fine without any issues.
Question: After you type in say, the reset code 15, do you just push another button to activate it ? And once activated, how long does it take to cycle through to reset it? Should I see something at the end?
What about if the lights on the panel isn't coming on but the fridge works well, what does one do
Good to know thanks for the upload s. It's ashame though that people have to pay outrageous amounts of money for companies making inferior products.
Its terrible. I am going to do a LONG video about that at some point - break down a few modern machines and explain why they are awful. I'm getting a full fledged studio in a few months so I can do it properly, I hope.
Having said that, I really like this GE side by side. There are only a few, FEW fridges I'd buy today, and GEs like this are one of the few.
Hi Ben thanks for great videos, question, I'm replacing the thermostat on my freezer, but sensor tube bit only goes in about 6 inches, think the old one went in much further, should the tube run alongside the big cooling radiator in the back of the freezer? I know it's a general question but would be very handy to know what is normal! Thanks Jon (Australia)
Hi Ben. Great video. My G.E. Fridge started spontaneously dispensing water. I reset it 0 15 as you showed and so far so good. 0 4 showed it passed the dispensing board check. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for making the video. I have a GE monogram fridge that has the lights on, but no fans, no compressor nothing. Do you think it could be the board?
I'm reading 120 at the compressor, so it makes me think the board is telling it to kick the compressor on, but there are no lights on the ice display either.
The lights when you open the door on the only thing that works
Glad to see you are making more videos. Would love to see more about your ebay store. I have a medium sized store with around 1k appliance parts for sale. Would love to hear your opinions on that size of the business.
I am buying a new building for my business because I am expanding my e-Commerce footprint. I 100% plan on getting more info out about those facets of my business both Ebay and my eCommerce website.
The issue I run into sometimes is trying to balance output, but with the new building I'm more or less going to go near-full-time on CZcams content (appliance CZcams content) and one major consideration is maybe starting a channel JUST FOR the business stuff, because there's a lot that could be said that isn't for this channel.
I also became an ERP distributor with core access to a lot of parts and wholesale stuff, so that's something I'd want to talk about, too.
@@bensappliancesandjunk congratulations on the new building. We are out growing our 3k sqft building as well and looking to build something new to move into. I agree that ecommerce is the way forward. Also great job on becoming an ERP distributor. You will definitely see great success there. I would love to see a "BUILD IT FROM THE GROUND UP" type of channel on business basics. I have really enjoyed "parts that fit" channel but he seems to have slowed down on the youtube. Keep up the good work here and know that there are a ton of us out here that like to hear what you have to say.
Hi Ben, good job! a great instructional video. But i have a harder tech question that no one has been able to answer yet. Working on a GE Side by side, model PSPS9PGZBCSS with an inverter compressor . My control (mother) board is putting out 11 volts, not the recommended 4 to 6 volts to the inverter. Everything else checks out ok, compressor and 120acv. What does this mean? I am very hesitant to put in a new inverter board thinking the 11 volts may destroy it.. or is 11 volts ok and due to the fridge/freezer being so warm?
Can I use this procedure in to GE Prifile French doors fridge thx in advanse
I have an older model, doesent read the temp, are the test functions the same
I got a new GE similar to this yesterday and it’s running constantly. Any ideas?
Hi, have a GE gse25gshecss and I am getting the word error on the display. Any recommendations on how to fix it?
I have this refrigerator but the ice maker quit working. The freezer works fine. The water works and if I put ice in the tub it will dispense it. How would I go about finding out if I need a whole new ice maker or some part from the back panel. Thanks love watching repair guys.
My GE is from 2012 and we have replaced the ice maker three times and the control unit for the water once.
Good evening
How to put the correct SW Version when replacing the main board in refrigerator GE
Model GYE18JSLNFSS
Thanks
Twice mine has melted all its ice now. Like the defrost isn’t working internally. Damn it. Menus shown here seem to work fine.
Does the adjust temp ever get to the set temp or it's not suppose too
I have a Ge refrigerator like in your video butbthe control pad on the front doesn’t light up. I changed it and it work then stopped. I resent Lu changed the main control board in the back with the same results. Have you ran into something like this.
I ran the test 0 7 and it says that the freezer thermistor has a bad amplifier (I'm looking at the window). Do you have any videos for this repair? I have GE GSS23WSTA SS, which is a 2006 model, but very similar to what you show here. Thank you for your consideration.
Hey Ben. I added Freon and ran the reset but there is a noise that starts and stops. All fans are running.
I have this same fridge and having an issue :
Fridge is making ice but not dispensing, stopped dispensing water, and alarm keeps randomly going off. Replaced the filter, confirmed the ice machine auger turns and nothing is blocking door close sensors. Have done a full reset and the water sometimes will work but when I go to test to see if ice works, it actually shuts down the power of the ice mechanism and you can hear the difference and the whole thing stops working again. Would love any ideas!
What year did they put diag program in the side besides
I really need some help I turned the freezer side off by hitting the warmer button until it went off I cannot get it to come back on now even if I push a button unplug it and plug it back in its not working what do I need to do
I've got a GE side by side that stopped cooling on me last night. The compressor does not start on its own and when i run the fans test nothing starts. However, when I run the "100% run time" the compressor will kick on along with all the fans. Any advice on where to look next? Thermostat test said all 4 passed and the temperature on the display seems reasonable. To me it seems like something that should be kicking on the compressor is failing to do so but I don't know what that would be. I'm leaning towards it being an issue with the control board. Any thoughts? I used a multimeter to check the starter/relay and they are both good.
I have this refrigerator and the freezer LED is out. Trying to figure out if its the door switch or the LED light itself. I bought an after market LED light ($10) and it lit and promptly went out. I was thinking either the after market light is bad or the door switch is bad. GE LED light for this refrigerator is $75 which is highway robbery. Any ideas?
Does actual temp get to the set temp or it's not suppose too?
Where do I get a service manual for my Ge refrigerator model GZS22IYNSHFS side by side . Thanks
Just hooked up water lines. No water. Filter light is red. Filter is new. Light wont reset. Any idea?
How many thermostats are in this fridge
My GE fridge has an evaporator fan blade? that constantly hits the rear plastic panel in the freezer. If I reach in with my hand and push it down hard, the sound gets real bad and I can feel it hitting, afterwards it may stop making the noise. Is ice building up on the fan? Is the fan mounted wrong? The other MAJOR issue, the ice maker inside the compartment forms an ice ring of cubes stuck together and that blocks ice from going into the ice bucket. Very annoying, I have to pull out the top shelf and use my hand to whack apart the ice ring maybe once per week Model is GSS25IGNBHWW Is there any fixes I can do?
What would cause the fridge to stop cooling after 24 hours or so and then needing to reset it to start functioning normally again? Keeps happening repeatedly
I don't know if it is going to do me any good, but this was the most informative video I have seen on my fridge in the last 15 videos I've seen. My refrigerator reads 34° on the door, but inside the refrigerator reads up to 50° with the Raytec no touch thermometer. When I test the freezer side the door readings correspond with the Raytec thermometer at about -4°
Any thoughts? Thank you for this fantastic video!
If there's a difference between the thermometer and the display, there are 2 possibilities:
1) The thermometer you put inside is not located where the sensor is (super unlikely)
2) The thermostat inside the fridge, the one reporting to the UI, has gone off-spec and needs replaced.
@@bensappliancesandjunk thank you!

I tried test # 10, but don't hear anything opening or closing? Is the motor noise obvious?
How do you set the actual temp?? I was able to rest the fridge with this video that was very helpful but im finding nothing to set the temp. Help!
Same thing I want to know
I was able to fix it somehow , I reset the fridge to factory, unplugged it for a while plugged it back in . I just didn't touch the Temps again after plugging back in and the fan finally kicked on and has been running perfect ever since.

is this a good fridge overall? looking for basic 25cubic foot side by side fridge with ice maker and water dispenser. thanks
I really like them. They are about the most basic fridge you're going to get with a UI and water/ice in the door.
Where to get a service manual for a Ge Modl.
Thank you. Does the fridge have to be cold to run the diagnostic tests?
Nope. But any thing relating to sensors could require it to be at a proper temp to test good
Where can I find the Main Control Board Locator table that Ben showed in his video?

My wife was cleaning the fridge and the door was open for 15 minutes or so. The panel went blank. I unplugged the fridge
and after 30 seconds plugged it back. The four zeros started flashing and I followed the steps on your video but it keeps on flashing. nothing else happens. What can I do to get it working again?
My GE french door refrigerator bought in 2018 does not stop running. The freezer door was not closed properly and ran for some time with door not tightly closed. After I closed the door properly it didn't stop running all day. I unplugged it over night and cleaned it out the next day and plugged it back in. That was almost 12 hours ago and it is still running. I looked at the Mother board on the back and there is a blinking light at one point on the board ( hard to described where exactly ...but toward bottom atop several rows of soldered components and it is the third symbol in top short row)....My question is should any light on the MB be blinking or does a blinking light indicate a problem??? Thank you

mentioned in the video and the same blinking light

Could it be the main board? Any help please!!!

Ben, A little off subject but close. I have a whirlpool deep freezer that stopped working recently. We Panicked and luckily found a replacement. The thermostat is interior. I pulled the thermostat plug apart while laying flat in my pickup. I plugged it in and with a jumper wire inserting in the plug, the compressor started. Point of comment, I saw a video where there is a tiny fine adjustment screw on the stat and that it can be tightened and work fine. Is this fact or fiction?
I'm not sure, I haven't dealt with a model like that before. There may be a control thermostat that does allow for adjustment of the temperature that could be adjusted or needed-to-be but without knowing the exact model, I have no clue to tell you where or how to adjust.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Ok thanks! If you would like a link to the video, let me know. I will open it and try it tomorrow.

That’s a good thing. Modern GE aren’t GE anymore, if you know what I mean.
I put all GE appliances in my new house 3 years ago. I've had to repair every single one multiple times. Meanwhile, the 40 year old Kenmore fridge in my barn is still chugging along like the Energizer bunny.
Hi Ben, thank you for this video. I own a 15-year-old GE fridge very similar to this one. I love it and I want to keep it. I have a few questions I need answered. I hope you can help me. My refrigerator is usually almost totally quiet but this morning it was making a background ringing noise, and when I opened the freezer, I noticed that cold air was coming out of the vents at the top of the freezer compartment not consistently but in bursts very close together. At the same time the water dispenser was giving me lukewarm water. I’m wondering if this could be the defrosting cycle? Or is it something else?
Same! I also had to replace my board after 4 years
That's why you get a state of the art LG with a linear compressor....
