    a little advice: the finger placements isnt fully listed, we still got the third octave 2, and 3, and also half notes, may be to give a whole range would be much better.

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes. This is meant to be all of the major notes that you will play. I have a full list on my website. But there are many flutes that are even stable once you get to the double high register. If the range is that big, the song is typically rearranged into another key to avoid playing ridiculously high notes.

      there also third octave "ti dol re mi", but special finger placements. normally one hole can produce 3 to 4 sounds, like the fourth holes: dol ,the second octave dol, the second octave sol, the third octave 1, four sounds.

    Great video. Thanks a lot, Jake. Apropos embouchure, is the air going towards the chin when playing high notes or further away from the chin. I'm still don't get the full high note. It's more like a duet (lol) and sometimes a lot of air. Back to practice, then.

    I just started playing and your videos are really saving me!
    But I'm now stuck at this one problem.
    I just can't play the lower 5 and I have no idea why. Maybe the embouchure or xiao placement is wrong? Can you please give some advice (if the xiao should be lower at lower notes, or airflow should flow closer to chin etc)?
    That would literally save me! And thank you very much for your videos!

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před rokem

      This could be multiple things but most often it is either, or a combination of, overblowing, dipping the chin too low, or not covering all of the sound holes. Keep good posture and slightly relax the embouchure. Keep trying!

    Hello, I have no problem playing it but I have a problem understanding how did you simplify the registers? 5.,6. no problem, but then on original register which is on your Google drive as well there is diffrent fingering for 7 and also it doesn't shw the N2 hole covered most of the times. Also when I play 7. according to the simplified version you provided my tuner doesn't show F note but G flat. Could you please help me understand why the changes were made like that for the simple version?

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před rokem +1

      That is normal. The lower notes tend to be the more difficult to play when starting out. Make sure that you are keeping good posture and blowing slightly softer and more relaxed as you get deeper in pitch. Keep at it and you will get it!

    The video is very helpful! But i can't seem to change the registers, whenever i get to middle register 5, with all the holes covered, it sounds like the very first one from the lower register, and i can't go above that in pitch , any advice on how to fix that?

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před rokem +1

      Try blowing slightly harder and through a tighter embouchure (smaller lip shape). You can lift the thumb on the back. This will make the low register not possible to sound off and force you to adjust for the middle register.

    How does an instrument have the same fingering for different notes in different registers?
    Is it because of the spiral of the wind already in the instrument?

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před 2 lety

      I am not too familiar with the physics of it all, but I assume that it is along those lines. The tighter airstream cuts through the xiao faster and gets a higher pitch due to its direction, volume, and intensity.

  • @solacellee

    2:07 I don't know why but I always struggle with this note. It might be my embouchure but it's just so hard. So I blow more lightly?

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před rokem

      Yes, the embouchure needs to be more relaxed and slightly larger. Think of dropping the tongue and making an "oo" sound like in the word "too"

    Why do you always hold the second hole closed? It replaces the F note with #F. I'm used to keeping the third closed and playing with normal F.

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před 2 lety

      I am playing a F key xiao so this actually keeps me in tune. But with a G key flute, which you are probably using, there are other fingering patterns that do this. This is the most widely used progression for most pieces here. I will go over some other tunings in future videos.

    My Xiao seems to make really shallow sound when i take the thumb off for some of the notes, any idea why?

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před rokem

      Well depending on the note in question, the thumb is required for most of the correct pitches. Lifting the thumb at the wrong time causes air to leak out earlier and changes the pitch, often making it flat or unstable.

      I would speculate that as your audience grows they will be struggling from your intro video to your “four season” song video. The gap is like learning how to ollie a skateboard on flat ground vs learning how to ollie on a vertical wall in a concert pool. Just not enough scaffolding.

    • @WuDaoMusic
      @WuDaoMusic  Před 2 lety +2

      @@Riabh Ah. I used a few of these terms interchangeably and misspoke. I should clarify: the low register only has 3 major pitches. In jianpu notation, we refer to the solfege rather than the specific pitch (ie we use "5" or "sol" instead of "D"). The scale is complete when you run through the fingering position and arrive at the next octave up (ie a low register 5, sol to a middle register 5, sol). I shouldn't have said "scale" in the video. I meant to refer to the lower register.
