  • An educational video recounting the origins of the Pequot War, a conflict that changed New England forever. An important chapter in American history, it is rarely covered extensively by schools. Please enjoy, and feel free to ask me any questions about the story! It can be overwhelming at times, but is extremely exciting :)

    AUTHOR’S NOTE
This video acts as a ‘sequel’ to the First Thanksgiving, taking place in the decade after the famous feast. More important players are introduced, such as John Winthrop Sr. and Uncas of the Mohegans, but Plymouth colony is still alive.
Yet again, I was obliged to leave out many details due to time constraints, but please feel free to leave a comment asking about anything that may not have been clear in the video!

Tdlr: Both the Europeans and the Natives had rival nations even if they were the same race (English and Dutch, Pequot and Narragansett) and had alliances with each other but some of them were broken off because of political interest. Both the Europeans and the Natives had ulterior motives and played political games. The Natives were intelligent and has their own interests and schemes in mind. It's not always as simple as the "bad, evil Europeans" and "poor, defenseless, clueless Natives".

@@larry1824 You're absolutely right that it is important we as history educators tell the story of the Portuguese pirate ship that captured enslaved Africans from Spain and sold them to the Jamestown colony in 1619. We also need to tell the story of how the Atlantic Slave Trade began in the 1400s before then. But we also need to not get carried away. The Portuguese Pirates and English tobacco planters in 1619 had absolutely zero thought about starting a new country. All the pirates cared about was collecting the money and sailing out in search of their next victims. The English planters were still loyal to English King James I, and made that clear in the first meeting of the Virginia House of Burgesses that same year. In no way did anyone involved in the inhumane transfer of trafficked humans in 1619 think they were starting a nation called the United States. However, the delegates of the 2nd Continental Congress 157 years later in 1776 absolutely believed and knew they were starting a new nation called the United States. Now, we absolutely need to tell how Washington could have ended all slavery in the new United States by just putting it in a letter to all the states in 1783, after the War for Independence had ended. He could have again while president from 1789-1797. President Adams could have as well, since he and Federalists from northern states controlled the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. Heck! Jefferson, though famously owning slaves openly declared it evil and a contradiction--and he was president for another 8 years from 1801-1809! There's no excuse for any of them to have not ended slavery when they could have. But, I don't think we need to declare that America started in 1619, because nobody in 1619 was even thinking about founding a new nation at that time. What are your thoughts on this?

This is outstanding work. Pronunciations matter about as much as a mask in times where it’s uncommon to show one’s face. I digress.
Outstanding and beyond a comprehensive synopsis with excellent details for an overview account of an incredibly important conflict in world history.
Secondly, you did title this work “part 1”. It doesn’t promise anything and I get that it’s tough work as well as time consuming but, part 1 and the fact that this is excellent, sort of implies and attempts to owe us, your subscribers, the part 2, you know that you totally have within you. Part 2’Boom BAI Yay!”
    C’mon man,
    Anyways…
I’m a huge fan but, you’re in risk of being Sandy Koufax. The best ever seen but, seen seldom or not enough. Randy Moss to a lesser extent. We believe in you

Glad to see you posting! I subscribed to your channel a while back, based solely on the strength of your singular video about Thanksgiving. Keep up the good work and don't be such a stranger between posts. BTW, do you animate your own videos? What software do you use? Just curious. Take care and enjoy your holiday. :)

I grew up in the town where the first massacre took place, Mystic CT. Not once was the story of the massacre of the Pequots ever mentioned in school. There had been a statue erected in honor of the guy who lead the attack on the Pequots, John Mason, but it was rightly taken down in the 90’s. The Pequots have their own casino now, as do the Mohegans.

Thank you! But that's the difficult part about becoming a decent size history channel; it's much easier to make half-baked animations with much less research. I am trying to make the BEST possible videos, so serious learners can learn and be entertained. Because I am one person, it makes it all the more difficult. But comments like your are encouraging, so thank you! I will keep it up :)
