Syu, pronounced "Shu", grew up playing the violin starting at the age of 6. He then tried the drums, and then found his fit with the guitar. He's been playing ever since. Since Syu has a strong educational background in classical music and since neoclassical music is so popular in Japan, this would explain his playing style. Many people have compared Syu to Yngwie Malmsteen, but he only lists him as one of many inspirations. His main inspiration was Hide, a deceased member of X Japan, whose death practically caused a national day of mourning. His death was a hard hit for many musicians in that country. They had a concert that served as a memorial for Hide, and huge numbers of people were seen bawling in the audience. They had his guitar sitting by itself on the stage as they played in his honor. I heard this hit Syu pretty hard.
This song is literally an adaptation of Tchaikovsky's Concerto in D major, Op. 35, from violin to guitar. He translated the song from violin to guitar, and it's probably a song he learned when he was young on violin and knew well. It's thought by some that this was meant to be a love song from a guitar to a violin. I'm not sure if I would go that far.
If you consider everything that goes into being an accomplished guitar player, music theory, songwriting, technical skill, expression through music and lyrics, I would consider Syu to be the best modern-day electric guitar player in existence. I have literally seen musicians want to throw their guitar in the dumpster after hearing him play. I'm not kidding. I've seen some musicians get pretty upset after devoting decades to mastering the guitar, only to feel tiny in comparison to Syu.
Seriously, you could make a documentary just on this guy's forearms.

All of them are beasts. Its even better live. One thing though, Tchaikovski is kind of one the most difficult pieces for the violin, so im not sure he could handle it at a young age properly. Who knows anyway, there are monsters everywhere. But great comment.

in a translated interview I read somewhere, malmsteen actually his one of his inspirations-just not a prominent one

@@vetelgyus Didn't know that. Nice to know. It's weird though, because I heard the total opposite. I just looked it up on Wikipedia and you're right!

Try to check out Dir En Grey, I would start with Vinushka and the rest is history. They have lots of songs out so I really recommend you Diru. They started in 1997 and have been through so many styles, phases and hairstyles lol.

This is a version of the Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35 (Tchaikovsky)
That solo is de violin line, thats why sounds like a violin solo hahaha

Galneryus are pretty amazing and considered one of the best Japanese metal bands for a reason. They are all fantastic musicians, but guitarist Syu certainly stands out. He is a true virtuoso and seems to incorporate a lot of classical influence, hence the violin-like sound you described. He actually used to play violin. This song ended seemingly prematurely, because this was actually a shortened version. The full version is about 15 minutes long. Check out some live performances. It's epic. Singer Sho has an iconic voice, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Many also probably know them for their songs that were used in the anime Hunter x Hunter.

Galneryus is amazing, really amazing, they are a progressive/neo classical/power metal band. Syu (the guitarist) is a legend!! He is really one of the best guitarists in the world (I'm not exagerating, the guy is so good)
This song is actually a 15 minutes song but the music video on youtube only shows half the song, there is actually a keyboard solo and a longer guitar solo in the live and full studio version, also the whole song is a direct inspiration from "Tchaikovsky violin concerto in d major".
Check out any live performance from them you'll be amazed, I recommand the live versions of "Sounds of Retribution", "T.F.F.B", "FATE OF THE SADNESS"; "MY FAITH", "VETELGYUS", "with sympathy", ""the Force of Courage", "Grmetal",
They have some cool progy with some highly complex guitar and keyboard melodies and use of odd time signatures songs and very interesting song structure, a lot of their songs could fall under both progressive and power metal genres, if you're into any of them you'll absolutly love a lot of what this band does
