  • Demonstration of positional tracking failure of Playstation VR on the Z axis. This occurs around 5 to 6 feet from the camera, and gets worse the further back you go.
It's challenging to capture the effect in 2D, but it's very disconcerting in the virtual 3D space.
Standing games like Job Simulator require you to stand this far back, so moving closer to the camera is not an option for these games.
I have covered my windows, put blankets over every remotely shiny piece of furniture, taken down all my hanging pictures, and turned of all other bluetooth devices. I've done a full shutdown and restart of the console. I've tried all different combinations of lighting conditions from total darkness, to indirect sunlight, to partial and full artificial lighting. I've run through all calibration in the PS4 VR Settings menu, including Adjust Camera and Adjust Tracking Lights. I've removed my belt (shiny buckle) and worn all black clothing. I've mounted the camera to a tripod and tried all different orientations within the room, including variations of camera angle and height; measuring the distances with a tape measure each time.
The tracking is always good at 4 or less from the camera, but degrades as I move back. In some situations the tracking is better than others, but the jittering is never completely eliminated.
Other people are reporting this problem, but I'm not sure if it's a limitation of the PSVR, or something wrong with my environment or device.
If you can post a similar video showing no jitter at 6 feet or further, please do so and comment!
