Fun fact: Porsche actually used to compete in rally events throughout history. They saw great success in the prestigeous Paris -Dakar rally, and their most successful car was known as the 959.
This is probably why you can equip RUF models with rally and snow tires in Gran Turismo, as RUF's are essentially tuned Porsches with a different badge (Similar to what Alpina was for BMW and AMG or Brabus for Mercedes).
The 959 does appear as a driveable car in the Forza Horizon series, both as a road car, and the winning rally spec version.
Porsche also attempted to beat the record at Pike's Peak at one time.
So, long story short. Porsche has had a long history with rally events 😁
Yes, I'm aware of their rally pedigree. I did find it weird because RUF always made cars which were focused on tarmac, hah.
RUF's usually are totally different cars with shell of 911.

Fun video once again, glad to see more of this format of "let's push this misunderstood car to the limit". For those curious to try an RR in GT4, I'd recommend starting with the BTR. It has very similar handling stats to the CTR (it's heavier, though it also has wider front tyres), and the downforce from the GT Auto rear wing makes it much more forgiving to drive. It takes some time to adjust to the RR driving style, but with practice, you can swing its rear around corners like a breeze. The CTR is more demanding due to its higher power and lack of downforce, but can indeed be tamed with the right driver and setup.

The BTR is quite fun, one thing which I didn't like was its tire wear. It was a bit high for my taste, while it doesn't beat LMPs, it can beat JGTC cars. Shame the RGT doesn't get a wing, would be pretty close to a GT3. You're welcome, it's the least I can do!
I once attempted to clear the GTWC with the TVR Griffith 500.
It actually worked, but the lineup has to be pretty weak.
Might plan to stream that in the future.

Another notable thing about the BTR is it's (at lest to my knowledge) the only RUF eligible for Premium Sports Car Lounge.

There's one big option you can do to make the yellow bird drivable, adding ballast to the front.
It slow you down a bit, but the boost in stability is massive.

There are some other cars which I absolutely like pushing to the limit, like stock classic muscle cars being pushed to beat cars like the Viper SRT10 in the Hot Rod championship, & even the Pagani Zonda C12 in the NA series.
Also, yeah the YB is a really good car once you get through the learning curve it requires.
Muscle cars could be interesting given they come alive with suspension and drivetrain upgrades. The SRT10 happens to be really good, actually.

I will have to try some of your settings, but I found that lowering the front end to bias the weight forwards helps to stabilise the car, as well as adding about 50kg of ballast towards the extreme front of the car also helps.
I also stiffen the rear springs more vs the front to try preventing the weight shifting rearwards under hard acceleration, as well as changing the toe-in/toe-out of the front and rear wheels to give a more neutral handling profile.
Having said that, your settings clearly worked, so I wouldn't put too much stock in what I said, it's just what worked for me.
You really do need to change how you drive an RR car vs other drivetrains, they're challenging, but when you nail it the speeds they can achieve are quite impressive to say the least.
On the topic of interesting/unique vehicle facts, I don't know if you've ever went into depth with the Suzuki GSX R/4, but it can go over 20 laps on the nurburgring on one tank of fuel. It is the most effective time-saving vehicle for the nurburgring 24 hours in B-Spec mode as it is faster, and can go farther than the competition on tires, fuel is never even a worry as by the time it pits for tires it's at half a tank.
The GSX is mental, one of the most cracked cars I remember.
@@YellowbirdYT Definitely an underrated car considering it is objectively the best vehicle for the more lower-end timed endurance events. I never see anyone using it generally.
In the early years, I already discovered the power of that Suzuki. In recent times, when Randomizer blessed me with it, I put it on work and used in lot of early game races. One of the lighter and grippiest car, the go kart of the game.

I literally just put a ballast in the front of the Yellowbird, and it can do just about anything.
what're the specs for the ballast?
@estate86 I just move the ballast to the far front and adjust weight until I'm as close to a 53/47 front/rear split for the weight. It's the only way to really drive the Audi Union V16 in any of the Gran Turismo's.

It's weird how well AC music works with GT, I'm all up for it though.
Realistically, it would be expected for the RUF to have decent results on dirt, as the original 911 RS (for instance) was designed for rallying. Some GT3 cup cars also go through that route and manage to score points in FIA championships.

I've used the RUF Yellowbird several times in the Supercar Festival :)
I remember in GT5 that the Yellowbird would come up quite frequently in 500pp events. That car and the Shelby Cobra got notorious reputations for being undrivable twats. I know I've won multiple times with both cars in shuffle lobbies as both cars are very fast. You just had to know how to deal with the total of fuck all rear grip you deal with on both cars.
The Yellowbird in GT4 is kind of disappointing but I still love it; it's kind of night and day to how it is depicted in Enthusia where despite being a rear wheel drive car (and we know how Enthusia treat those), the extra traction in corner exit makes it one of the most pleasant car to drive.
I'll have to revisit Enthusia one day.
@@YellowbirdYT lul I remember leaving a comment on your early youtube videos and being so harsh on the game.
I'm truly in a love-hate relationship with Enthusia, but these days I just bypass the somewhat unintuitive slow steering response on controller by using a wheel input on PCSX2 (wheel input with a controller still); really helped me making the rear wheel drive cars significantly more driveable, it shows how good the handling is if the input is just a tad more customizable for controllers (the TXR games are really good at that).
The RUF yellow bird and the BTR are my favorites but I never was able to find a setup that got my drive style. They would just sit in my garage looking cool 😢

Truth be told a 911 is my Dream car, if I ever get lucky enough to get one I will get it in Yellow to honor the channel.
I wonder how far you could push the Dodge Ram. The only two series that it can enter that doesn't involve true race cars I couldn't complete with it were the Supercar Cup and the Tuning Car cup. I also couldn't finish the rally events, but that is more because the AI absolutely cheats (The penalties are one thing, but the fact they absolutely have grip cheats enabled is what makes it near impossible to hang). I did manage to complete all 3 of the Tsukuba Wet races, beating even the LMP car (Though that was due to generous application of punterino).
The Chevy SSR is also surprisingly strong, as are all the old US muscle cars. They are heavy, but have plenty of brute force to make up for it.
Supercar Festival is winnable with it, stay tuned...

not Gran Turismo, but Wangan 5DX had RUF in it since Porsche didn't allow them to be in the game and I was practically enamored by the Yellowbird. I didn't know why, but there was just something in the way the handling in that arcade game with the Yellowbird just resonated with me. Fully tuned that bad boy but anyone else who uses it thought it was too heavy of a car, but somehow I just made it work

In GT2, if u brake and hit direction to turn simultaneously, and I mean at the same time, u can get some very sharp high speed turns out of this car, like going pretty fast L turns.. No other car in gt2 does this, that I've seen. Takes some practice obvs.
I haven't played other GTs so don't know if it's the same

Great video, though i disagree. The second gen Honda NSX-R is the best handling car in the entire game, almost like a cheat. With tuning to nearly 360-370 hp and sports soft tyres it's an absolute unit on most circuits
This car really separated the men from the boys and takes me back.
I will say that taming it is a rewarding challenge, but racing it raw or after mastery is not fun. It's a car that has a very short lifespan on gran turismo 4 cos people generally move on to something more manageable and fun to drive.
