    The biggest thing that was missing was putting the lens on a nodal point.

      It seems one can find a table for a given pair camera plus lens and then use the usual ruler to adjust the proper position. Any way, some moderate mistakes could be corrected in any serious software later (especially if the pano has no close up objects in view).

    Great for timelapses for those that shoot a lot. You can do bulb tamping with thier pt trigger. For pannos, it's fast but if time is not an issue it can be easily done by hand. If you shoot a lot this a great piece of kit. Thanks. It's also way cheaper than the competative products

    Tried my first large pano last weekend, made a 90mp pano. def going to try and do a 200mp one.

    Cool tech, Todd. I had a Gigapan that worked very much like that device. My experience with it is that the hardware was so bulky, it was impractical. Yes, using it for that multi-layer pano is cool. The Zepon looks like it has an additional use for product shooting, which looks cool. But for panos, I found single-layer stitching is more often used. For single-layer stitching, all we need is a decent $120 leveling base so my horizontal images stitch better. I have seen some guys use tilt-pano attachments. My point is only that this kind of tech is very cool but not very practical unless you are doing lots of these multi-layer panos.

    This would be AMAZING for some landscapes!

  • @bobulatorul
    @bobulatorul Před 2 lety +1

    Sorry I don’t get something…when you look at the landscape picture at 3:39 …. That picture is nothing like the previous one with the pumpkin. The high megapixel pumpkin picture clearly shows the bookeh in the background which obviously looks nice but the picture at 3:39 is all in focus (given the distance between the camera and the trees/building) so my main question is why use a telephoto and stitch a bunch of pics when you can use 1 picture of a wide angle lens, which should capture pretty much same thing, especially given that the telephoto hjgh mp stitch is all in focus just like a wide angle photo would be. Am I missing something!

    Great informative video,can i please know what cable you are using for connecting the camera with the pons PT base?

    Sorry but this is terrible. Your video is highly informative. But there MUST be a way to input how much you want to capture, i.e. what final FOV you want. There are loads of other panoramic heads on the market, you give them a top left in-point and a bottom right out-point and the app would calculate how many images you need based on the overlap basen on the actual focal length. So this will always be kind of 24mm? So only do a panorama for the additional resolution, not the actual panorama feature? Getting below what your lens can cover?

    • @dominey
      @dominey  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Magnus - appreciate the feedback. You're right, the Zeapon software doesn't allow the user to input field of view. It basically just assumes you want a standard, wide-angle FOV (eg, 24mm) and then calculates the horizontal/vertical overlap from there. It may be less sophisticated than professional panoramic software/hardware from other companies.

      @@dominey Hey Todd! Sorry, really didn't mean to sound like you are terrible! The video is great and your pacing, editing etc is enjoyable! Just though that something this expensive would have a standard feature. Talked to Zeapon, they don't seem to understand that something is missing. That's what happens when you are neither an engineer nor a photographer I guess. Merry Christmas!

    Thank you for this video. Did you find the need to fine tune the camera position to get close to the nodal point, or did you never have distortion, so didn't need to?). Thank you!

    An interesting piece of photographic equipment. I don't think I could justify the $700+ USD cost for something I can easily do manually. I use a Acratech Pano Head and a Nodal rail & therefore achieve the same result quite simply. It's still an interesting piece of photography tech though. Thanks for your VLOG.

    Their matrix mode is not usable. I need it to work like Syrp Geni Minis on their pan and tilt bracket. You go to the bottom left, then top right with the motors and the app determines how many rows and columns you need AND it lets you specify overlap percentage. Sensor size, aspect ratio, and focal length inputs are still there, but it doesn't just do some arbitrary field of view, it lets you show it where the framing is.
    I just bought the E700 and Pons PT bundle and this is highly disappointing. I really hope Zeapon plans to include a firmware update to support specifying the corners of the panorama position, this is crucial.

    10:34 how do you specifiy the angle range? You obviously don't always want to do a 360.

    • @calebwhite681
      @calebwhite681 Před měsícem +1

      You can't. I just got it and this greatly disappoints me. Syrp genie minis right now are superior for landscape panoramas

    • @AramAzhari
      @AramAzhari Před měsícem

      @@calebwhite681 i actually had the syrp solution years ago where they advertised multi row panoramas. Once I got it i realized it was false advertisement and they put pictures of their unpublished features on the website. So i contacted syrp to report and they admitted that it wasn't there yet and "No ETA on when it's going to be released". So i returned it, although this was years ago. Now i think they got merged with manfrotto or something but there's zero activity on syrp. It looks like the next GigaPan, abandoned.
      Meanwhile EdelKrone has absolutely what I need but they priced it like it's a rolls Royce and they don't have any NA offices so it has to be shipped from Turkiye. It's almost as if they don't want to go mainstream.
      So far I'm taking 1800 images using a SIRUI PH-20 manually and one by one and that only covers 160 degrees or so horizontally with a 400mm lens on a 61mp camera.
      Of course i use specialty software as Lightroom or other generic ones can't handle gigapixel panoramas.

    Pons PT is similar to my Miops 360 Capsule, but seems have bit more power and maybe a tiny bit of more strength to the arms. Although, it seemed in the video it's also slightly tilted. Am I correct? Unfortunately it's really lacking of the settings like an equivalent/desired FOV. While part of the Matrix image guiding is better like it turs back left and down. Miops stupider in this manner, since it's doing a full rotation. None of them looks perfect in technical manner, although both cab be fixed in SW.
    Overall seems, while the Gigapan is almost prohibitively large, but since it has dual arms, have the strength. No easy way to slack with a gigapixel panora creation....

    Thanks for the video and the short review og the PONS PS ability to capture panoramas. Now you do not mention a price on it and I have been looking for a price tag on it. If you compair the ability to capture panoramas to a gimbal and the price in mind, would it still make sense to go for the PONS PT over a gimbal? I am thinking weight, how compact is it, readyness etc.

    Nobody is talking about how the Zeapon app requires access to your phone's storage to function? Seems weird to give some random chinese company access to my data

    Doesn't DJI also have a panorama function in its gimbals? I don't have a DJI gimbal but I saw that this is also possible. The cost of a RONIN-SC should be half as much as this solution.

    Well… Nice review, Todd! The product could be useful for light weight cameras and lenses, but how about serious DSLRs with moderate telephoto lenses like EF 70-200 2,8 or 4,0? I'm afraid the known systems like Gigapan Epic Pro or other more expensive ones are still actual, aren't they?
