- In this brewing video, we show you how to brew a traditional Mexican Lager at home. We're making this beer with a 20 gallon 240-volt brewing system in order to make 10 gallons of finished beer. This is a brew day video where our friend brews with us for the first time, so we'll teach you everything you need to know for your first brew day as well. Although, even advanced homebrewers can gain something from this homebrew video, especially the recipe which makes a full-bodied lager with lime flavor from the Hallertau and Motueka hops. Our goal was to use hops that could mimic the flavor of a lime that's usually put in Mexican beers like Corona and Tecate. In the middle of the video, we take a trip to the attic and install a pulley in our ceiling to lift our grain basket. Using a pulley to lift your grain basket makes brewing easier, especially if you're brewing alone. At the end of this brewing video, we can our finished Mexican Lager and take it to a local CrossFit gym to lift some weights. This lager recipe is super crushable, refreshing, and easy drinking. Make this for a spring or summer day and drink it while you're doing yard work, hanging out at the pool, tailgating, or having friends over for a cookout. We guarantee all your friends will like this beer. Check out the resources below for a full recipe, brewing equipment, and an interesting article about the history of the Mexican Lager style.

So, you made a Mexican LOGGER? 😂 I’ll show myself out the door....
rmiraflor lol no. That’s a great pun! Made me laugh
I always wondered where Dennis got the beer for Paddy’s Pub!
So you got an infection from the log. Who could’ve seen that coming. The new system looks great. 👍🏻
I have never seen anybody else brew a mexican lager. I bottled mine today and this video came out?! Coincidence? NO...FATE!
awesome video as always guys, love this channel!
hy, look to be a big nice system. Maybe for the final version you could add an elbow for the lid conection to avoid kink in the hose.
Loved the content. The brewing, the uncertainty of spillage 😱, the funky finished product 🍻, and getting them gainz 💪🏼 was very “mucho buenos dias”!
Sarah is supper cute, and by the end she looks a a total bad ass! I love the leg lamp in the background! And this was a super cool video!!
Excellent, thank you!!!! Muchas gracias!!!
Another entertaining video! I have a few different brew rigs now but my tried and true recipes I brew on my 3 kettle 25 gal system! It’s gas fired under all three kettles!
Whirlfloc, the forbidden junior mint lol
real quick!
1.)
LOVE THE PAGE lots of good tips! great recipes! love the black ipa.
2.)
The mayans and aztecs would drink something called Pulque which is VERY similar to a sour wild beer but no grains mostly pineapple, agave, or maguey! In central and i believe south america they had something called Chicha, essentially a beer made with corn!
Yes check out Los Luces brewery in Denver for authentic Aztec/Peruvian brews with a modern twist of course.
That's a cool good job guys
that's awesome! my home store!
Nice one..keep posting👍
badass video!
More women in the Brew!!Nice video!!...from Brazil🌞🌞🖒
Your friend Sarah is super cute! You should definitely invite her to be in more of your videos ;)
You guys should add quick disconnects to the plate chiller for the water. I have a set on my clawhammer system and it makes hooking up the chiller just a little easier.
where did you get them?
I like the chemistry in this video and I'm not talking about beer brewing ;)
Once again a great brew video. Do you guys also plan on selling a canning machine? Would love to add a Clawhammer one to my equipment!
Nice MAP shirt!
Great video. Gonna have to try that Mexican lager sometime.
As for that dead lifting at the end, good job with that. I haven't been the gym in such a long time that if I tried to lift anything I wouldn't be able to walk for a week...... haha.
Great VIdeos Always! What's replace for motueka? The corn is malted? Thanks
If you want information about modern Mexican beer you could read about Modelo Brewery.
Yup, Sarah is just a “friend”. 😂
Where is Rachel?
going to throw something out there....the kink in the hose on the lid could be annoying down the road. would you consider a right angle fitting on the lid so the hose doesn't kink?
Muchos buenos días to you too lol
Hello you could leave the recipe in the description. Congratulations on the video show, I'm always accompanied here from Brazil
Hey guys! Super keen to try this, did you add any sparge water? or just all at the beginning?
Motueka, pronounced “mot-2-eka” awesome video.
Cheers from NZ
Woooah you're wearing a map brewing shirt, that's my favorite brewery anywhere!
Ever heard of Drekker?
@@nathanielharrison7021 yeah in fact it's super weird you mention that, I just moved to Fargo
Lucky mail me beers from them lol
hi crossfitters! love it. he does not look like a kyle lol
I would love to come up and meet y’all. I’m only an hour and 15 minutes from Asheville. I’m down in Greenville SC. Love your content.
Oh btw, I’m a new brewer as well so I’m learning lots from y’all.
You should put a spring coil on the sparge hose so it won't kink.
They tried to get new buckets and George said "NO..you stuck your wood in those buckets ..there yours .."
Please...an urgent Question. Currently building a new brewery in SeouL, Korea.
My understanding is that for the summer time... HVAC system for Brewery facility is of no problem since Fermenters and brites tank will be GLYCOL jacketed.
But I learned that when brewing ALE beer types(which is mostly the case for craft brewing) the temperature shouldn't fall below 10 degrees Celsius during winter.
Thus, my question is 1) is it necessary to install some sort of overall heating system for the brewing environment? If so, what type of system?
2) And if it gets installed. Does it have to be turned on 24-7? I reckon it would be waste of electricity cost and all.
Might try hooking the pulley to the eyebolt in the ceiling. I think it'd work better.
I may be entirely wrong but does the pulley not fit to the ceiling? That way you’re pulling the weight down towards you
That back bending on the deadlift ooooshhh hahaha jokes
💪😜🤙
From NZ probably never make it to Nashville.
Hops pronunciation:
Google Motueka Pronunciation haha good effort though Maori words are a little different to English...
MO TU EKA
mow·too·eh·kuh
or
Mot chew eh kar
💪😜🤙
Hi, nice system! do you sparge the grains or added the total amount of water at the mash?
We add the full volume of water at the beginning of the mash- we don't sparge.
This guy seems so stoned haha
Where is this system constructed and assembled?
What is the proper ratio to make this lager into a 5 gallon batch?
1.000 FG WOW
More videos with that charming young lady, please.
More Sarah
Sarah 😍
I'm pretty sure Mexican lager is considered part of the "international pale lager" style. Trying a log beer soon!
Buen español mi amigo buenos videos buenas birras salud
Mo Chu ecka!
"OK"
M A ha ha ha
Okay
What was that canning thing?
Okay... possibly a dumb question. If I use the older 10g system and would like to brew this, would I just half everything you did here? I think logically that makes sense but wanted to make sure.
That should do it- feel free to send Emmet an email if needed.
How would the recipe vary in a 10 gallon system??
Surely you could've got sarah to do some of the heavy lifting, not just stirring?
@17:57 What is that and where do we get them?
It's a can seamer
Yo! I'd love to brew that beer, but I need dat funky log yeast.
What are the chances you make this available to those who have purchased your kit?
What's the song at mash-in?
Put a 90 degree fitting on the lid that will fix your connection the lid.
ya the hose kinking was triggering me
It's the implication that she's crushing it today.
How longs this system take to get to a full boil?
It is pretty quick--- around 20 minutes
can i cut this down into a 2 gallon brew?
I want some of that malted corn.
Corn isn't real beer.
@@alwaysopen7970 it is you blind or something
Get a paint stirrer to aerate!
2 WL PurePitch packs each for a 5G batch with an SG of just 1040? That seems a big high, is it not?
How come you didnt add any liquid malt extract
So I have to install a pulley system in my house to use this set up?
Depends on how much you can lift... the pulley makes lifting a 10 gallon grain bill a lot easier. I would assume most folks brewing 10 gallon batches would have a pretty permanent setup either in their basement or their garage.
*get to
Hi there i am from ethiopia i want to start a small beer shop can you help me find one which can produce like 70 galon up to 100 galon and the price? Thank you
Hi guys, nice video, system and recipe. However I have two questions. 1) Why did not you use sparge water? 2) As I said, your brewing system is nice BUT I am wondering about that "sparger" at the end of the recirculation circuit. What I know, when you brew a beer, you want to reduce contact of hot wort with air to reduce oxidation of the beer. Your way is exactly the opposite. Do not you have any problems with oxidation in you beer? Good luck anyway and thanks for a good videos ;)
Oxygen is your friend until fermentation begins
@@SDB777 Well, this is only half-truth. Oxidation of the wort/hopped wort (without yeasts) by oxygen can start after few hours. So if you will have lets say 1 hour mashing + some longer lautering/sparging (2 and more hours) can cause some oxidation. I am not saying this case will happen every time, of course. However, again - nice videos and brewing system ;)
Bring Sarah back on your vids, Wait - Where you just making beer?
Crossfit and beer brewing 😍😍😍😍 I found my channel 👌
Where can I get a pulley like that from? It would be nice to have one :)
Leroy- We are really happy with the one we installed. Search "grow light pulley" Just make sure you get one that is strong enough to hold your basket.
@@ClawhammerSupply thanks
@@ClawhammerSupply I think if you switch the end you attached to the eye bolt in the ceiling with the one you hooked on the grain basket you could then pull the rope down to get the basket to go up instead of standing on a step stool and pulling up. I just ordered one for myself. Thanks for the information.
It's a simple version of "block and tackle".
Ok
LOGER
Now this is proof that any sours fermented in plastic should only be then used for sours.
For sure! We have marked all of our old buckets (and lids) sour-- We are using new buckets/lids on clean beers going forward.
Is that a soda can crimper?? Where can I get one?
looks like an oktober brand can seamer. Its all american made, super nice piece of kit
She's pretty.
Fermenting a log?
Isn't fermented wood a recipe to make methanol?
U look 6"1 am I correct buddy?
a hot friend of mine.
Chenal бир энд бир ...plies look
So…it’s a Mexican Logger?
What ever happened to Tommy and Sarah?
You even lift bro? lol
This is all great if you got $ to buy all this equipment . I can make beer just as good with a 6.5 gallon bucket . Check out big Erns Brew the easiest way to make homemade beer in the world 😁
First nah!!
Can someone tell Dennis to keep CrossFit out of the beer videos
hahahha
Sarah is HOT!!
stopped watching after the 578th time she said "okay"! p.s. im only @2:56...
How annoying hearing say “OK” every time
