•Ezek 38:18 This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord.
• There is a specific day when Gog will attack Israel. Gog can represent any tribulation, sickness, or spiritual or physical attack on the child of God. On that very day, the day satan plots to attack my family and me, God’s anger will be aroused.
•Our deliverance will not come after the devil has attacked but at the same time.
• Dan 5. The day when King Belshazzar took the goblets from the temple to misuse them was the day God’s hand decreed his demise by writing on the wall. That was also the day Daniel was honored and returned as a ruler after many years in obscurity. And that same day, Belshazzar was murdered, and Darius took over.
• Your day of trouble is going to be the day of your redemption. Don’t worry if the devil stirs up trouble; the rest of it will be God’s say.
• What did God do to defeat Gog?
• #1. Ezek 38:3 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal.
• To those who rise against us, God will speak.
• Then we see an apparent contradiction - v4. I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army
• Why is God raising up Gog’s army and making it mighty? 5 more nations came to him and formed an alliance to attack Israel. Now all, together, he is the leader of 8 countries. But we must realize when such things happen to us, it is not to discourage or wonder if God is really with us. Instead, it signifies that God is leading them into a trap. He is indeed with you to cause you to prevail.
• #2. V7.God plans the downfall of our enemy by propelling him to be the commander, to take up positions of authority. But this is all a trap devised by God. God is always on our side, and this is the sign.
• #3. V9. The next step is he will ascend upwards, not downwards as we would expect. He is gaining more power and authority; how could we expect to withstand him? He is described as a cloud that can cover an entire land, a dominant force.
• #4. V11. He will start plotting, and then he will speak. When we hear those words of the enemy, know that God is on my side. The adversary’s downfall is at hand.
• Now it’s God’s turn. V16. You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.
• How will God defeat him? In this specific scenario, God will use nature as a rescue force. V19. In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.
• Nature is a witness of God (e.g., the rainbow); it proclaims God’s glory, worships God; it fulfills the will of God. To rescue Israel from bondage in Egypt, He used nature. To deliver the apostles from prison, He sent an earthquake. Similarly, there are many instances where God causes nature to make a way out for his people.
• He also uses other means - V21-22. The sword, plague, rain, hailstone, burning sulfur. God can use nature to deliver his people.
• Ex 14: God asked Israel to encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea… And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army. V19. Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel
• Our God is like a cloud standing between my adversary and me. My enemy cannot touch me. V 20. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
• Ex 23:20 V28. I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way.
• For some problems that hinder us from acquiring our inheritance - God won’t send an angel but the hornet.
• Joshua 10:11
• Gibeon was allied with Joshua and was a great city; its men were warriors. But when under attack, there asked for Joshua’s help. V6. The Gibeonites then sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal: “Do not abandon your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us, because all the Amorite kings from the hill country have joined forces against us.” The Amorites were people of the mountains and had natural leverage against the Gibeonites.
• They could have severed ties with Josua and saved themselves but chose to stick with God’s people. Thus God rained hailstone on those who thought they had the higher ground and destroyed them.
