  • Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, the story of a magician who sold his soul for ultimate power, is one of the most influential plays from the Renaissance. Faustus is a sorcerer in search of secret knowledge. He has an aspiration to conquer the world and master life and death. However, once Faustus sells his soul to the devil and contracts the demon Mephistopheles to serve him, he doesn't accomplish very much. In fact, he wastes the rest of his life and fails to repent.
    Marlowe's Faustus is an exploration of temptation, ambition, and the nature of self-deception. The questions it poses and the themes it explores are as relevant now as they were hundreds of years ago.

    If you know that Shakespeare was an alias, can you also accept that Marlowe was not Marlowe either? Could they represent the dark and the light "A's" of the headpieces? The Gemini?

    Conquer the world and lose your soul

    • @GreatBooksProf
      @GreatBooksProf  Před rokem

      Except in Faustus’s case he doesn’t even get to conquer the world! It’s more like “Goof around for 20 years and lose your soul!” Bad deal all around. 😂

      Imagine that one would conquer the world , in that moment the world would be worthless .

    • @adrianpc1369
      @adrianpc1369 Před rokem +1

      Another exemple imagine you would eat the best dish in the world , after eating it you would never come near to that experience so after it all the dishes would be worthless

    I would sell my soul to make Doctor Faustus come to an end. Yeah, the poetry was good, but talk about BORING. Ingram Frizer probably stabbed Marlowe because he proposed writing Doctor Faustus II.
